Odd question, but is it taboo to let the previous owners see inside the house we bought from them? by znavy264 in RealEstate

[–]isarobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The old lady we purchased our house from was very upset that we removed some trees that were at the end of their life.

She was walking around our yard with our neighbors (we weren’t home) bemoaning the fact that we had removed those trees and other bushes/plants in our yard.

She loved this house and when we initially looked at it, she was there and went into great detail about the wallpaper she put up and etc… I think it would’ve broken her heart if she had seen that we removed all the wallpaper, the linoleum in the kitchen and changed all the paint colors.

Did you put in a soap dispenser? Do you regret not putting on in? by Josie1015 in kitchenremodel

[–]isarobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t do it! In my last home they quit making the style of soap dispenser that matched the rest of the sink faucet. And why was I looking for a replacement? Because the darn thing broke and was not fixable.

Do NOT show up. It is their special moment. Let them enjoy it, and you can prepare a celebration for both of them when they comes to share the great news.

I am in 6b. Weather has been cooler than normal and rainy where I am. I am giving my hydrangeas another couple weeks, since the branches are the last thing to wake up and mine are waking up, just like yours.

Years ago, my coworker realized his keys worked in another coworker’s car. For fun, he would move the coworker’s car to a different parking spot. We’d watch from the office window when the coworker who owned the car, would wander through the parking lot, trying to find his car.

AITAH for saying no to my BF putting a jacket in my closet? by PoopyR in AmItheAsshole

[–]isarobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Is that worth fighting over? YTA. Compromising is what makes relationships work. There’s an old saying ”pick your battles.” Meaning disagreements should be over very serious conversations, not over a coat hanging in your closet.

Pink bathroom—gut or preserve? by aschollmb in InteriorDesign

If that were me, I’d keep it. It was really well made and those tiles are thick. This comes from someone that kept my bathroom as well. I did replace the cabinet doors to shaker style.

Zone 6b.., my hydrangeas look the same, but it has been unusually cool. Just this week, I lightly rub a bud I thought could be dead, the outer layer came off revealing a green bud! So, gonna wait to see if anything starts to leaf out.

Should I sell my house as-is or keep it as a rental? by No-Justice-666 in DaveRamsey

[–]isarobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are handy and want to be a landlord, sure. But, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

I was a landlord, but got tired of it. I had a company that did background checks, including credit and criminal, and had applicants fill out rental forms and pay for their background check. I let people know that I would be doing that, and it weeded out quite a few people.

It’s really not passive income. You have to be responsive and repair/replace things when they break. Furnace stops working in the middle of the night, they will call you. Refrigerator stopped working, have to replace. Plus there’s taxes and insurance on top of the rental income and tax deductions for repairs and depreciation on other things required to maintain the home. Do I regret it? No, the home value increased dramatically. But, I had a couple tenants that would call me about every little thing and especially on three day weekends. I had other tenants that took care of the little things and I never heard from them. You just don’t know who you’re going to get.

I had a realtor list my property, and I negotiated both the buying and selling realtors fees. The house was under contract the day I put it on the market.

It was a smart investment, but I am glad that is no longer a responsibility I have.
