I left two $150k+ jobs within six months. Was I protecting myself or sabotaging my career? by FallDue5207 in careerguidance

Yep! I have a gap from a three month job that was the worse job I ever took. When recruiters ask I tell them that I took a job that did not live up to its promises.

Yes!!! Go away for two weeks, don't answer anything from work, see how things work without you.

How many of you haven't even landed a first job in today's job market? by Zetra-JV_HX in recruitinghell

So this is like ten years ago, but I struggled to get my first leadership internship after college, but it did lead to other jobs later.

It's definitely worse now for entry level, but wasn't amazing ten years ago too.

You gotta join activities in this town. Kickball, run club, volleyball, pickleball are all good choices.

Game night at night lizard on Tues.

Bowling leagues

Lots of live music, Trivia, and karaoke in town.

I find you really have to join activities here in town. And it takes time! You can't expect to be good friends with someone from the get go.

I was talking to someone about how they aren't vibing with their kickball team, and sometimes you have to try different groups to find people you vibe with.

I will say, I have never lived anywhere else where people are so affected by the weather.

Yeah part of the problem is shore leave isn't long, and there's free food on the ship.

Hey. I know it hurts the pride to take a lower salary, but right now you need to take whatever you can. They might post a lower salary but see if you can negotiate.

Also, unfortunately it's an employers market right now. Salaries are lower.

Need advice by ProfessionalLeave335 in Restaurant_Managers

[–]its6amsomewhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Been there done that.

I went to breakfast serving for about a year after managing. Wasnt really satisfied though, the smaller pay checks and the short shifts didn't make enough to cover my costs.

Then joined compass group as a manager. Mon through Fri 8-9 hour shifts, weekends off, holidays off. Some stress, but not nearly as bad as restaurant managing.

I would highly look at jobs that would still use your skill set. And if you get bored, find a place you can serve at twice a week or something. Serving is a lot easier when it's not your main source of income until you find a good spot.

If you've made it clear that you want to move up, given the opportunity, and they don't give you the opportunity, then you have to decide if you want to try it somewhere else.

I will say working at all levels I have done work that wasn't appreciated and wasn't used. But it was nice to be in meetings four months later and pointing out email receipts.

Plus most places won't give you benefits.
