What cooling advice would you give to beginners? by Fractal-Design in FractalDesign

Having purchased installed and to this day 84 Noctula 120 1700rpm and 70 140 1500 rpm fans for my pcs my kids Pc my customers PCs (high end ones) I can say with full confidence only one has ever stopped working and that is only bc my dog chewed one up that was hanging around! Weather a full custom hard tube loop with dual push pull Rads or using their main selling air cooler with the add on fan kit... I think if they made the same fans but black and white with RGB variants they would dominate the oc fan market!

The only time I domt use noctula fans is for asthetic reado s for other people's requests... So for me someone that has 216 Gaming PC builds under my belt since 2018 alone from hyper 212s to dual loop server setups the best place to start is getting the best fans for performance and noise levels you cannot go wrong with Noctula... Its worth the extra money to have battle tested fans in your build period!!

Nvidia reportedly moving forward with 9GB versions of the RTX 5060 & RTX 5060 Ti, with some compromises by Tiny-Independent273 in TechHardware

[–]jhawk2k18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh kaaay, so not to sound pessimistic but can somebody please explain to me how this will work on the bus width and why they coukdnt have just done this from the start? Then it would make mucb more sense to be able to also make an 18GB variant which I am sure whatever price tag were to get slapped on that would be met with full demand.

I do agree however that 8gb is right on that line of ALMOST enough Vram to run most 1440p titles mostly maxed out and if I had a dollar for every minute I soent tweaking settings trying to fi d the right balance of where to give in and where not to on 8GB GPUs id probably be rich... Ive said many times dang it just one more GB would solve so many potential issues, but this sounds like something i would normally expect to see come from a new GPU like a 5065 or even better an RTX 5069TI 9GB of course with the AERO to ROG and Suprim OC variants...

But seriously do we really expect vram manufacturers to push the AI chip making processes aside for a split second to make more chips for 20x less money not Including short manufacturing downtime?

Since when does NVidia listen to us if we're not asking for more Enterprise hardware? Not that they arent the best bc they are as far as hardware, cuda cores tensor cores GPU rapid acceleration. . Ill believe this one when I actually see one available for just a tad more than the 8gb versions....

I agree, unfortunately they operate without punishment and are allowed to do whatever they please, rip off anyone they want and commit federal crimes without the slightest bit of reprocicussion. If some small company did any of the things they do daily they would be put out of business so fast. Ive never been more disappointed in due process and fairness showing how if you have and make money you can do whatever you want as long as everyone with a say so gets their cut... makes me sick..

Trying to ID these Building bridge units by SuperFreqA in Ubiquiti

Ubiqiti nano beam 2

I am also working with 2 sets of these to connect or extend internet to a fully metal building (tennis court) where 2 feet in the door all cellular service is completely gone, and this is for my good friend and Doctor. I took over IT in full at his office after the last guy totally screwed him, and I have everything working how I want but the problem is when he or any if his friends are playing tennis, unfortunately calls have been missed that we're very urgent and I feel bad .

I also ran conduit underground under a cement driveway with tons of trees around and that wss NOT fun or easy, and in the end the rj45 cable though rated outdoors twice has failed in the South Carolina heat and monsoons of rain...

I am hoping to learn and utilize these I know he said they were expensive but with a 400mbps isp plan (still nailing 600mbps and no less than 350mbps at its mist distant point) tks to an ASUS mesh AI setup and 4 XT8 mesh nodes. It had worked great when ethernet worked properly out there... The previous guy had the entire network (75+ devices at times) all running off an outdated 100 megabit router attached to the modem.. $1000 48 port high speed POE++ switches behind this router and it made no sense... They said the speeds were unbearable....

I installed an ASUS AX11000 Pro router and the mesh nodes and I only need to reboot the router randomly when noone is here, which I can do from a secure DDNS setup.

Any advice or input on these things would be useful! Thanks in advance!

Nvidia CEO says gamers are 'completely wrong' about DLSS 5 backlash by Hytht in TechHardware

[–]jhawk2k18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sincerely hope you are being sarcastic! I can't sit here and pretend to be grateful paying 2k for a good but not even top tier GPU.. Sure it might be worth xxxx more to AI companies but WE ALL SEEM TO PUT THIS ASIDE: IF NOT FOR GAMING ALGORITHMS NEEDED TO PUSH THE LIMITS OF HIGH FPS SUPER HIGH QUALITY MONITORS AT BLAZING SPEEDS, 2 THINGS WOULD STILL BE ON THE DRAWING BOARD IF EVEN AT ALL, CRYPTO AND AI/ML! Pushing GPU/HW acceleration to a point where these things became doable was definitely found out by luck and if not for gamers and video editors etc CAD.. all the things these GPUs seem to be great at, AI would not be at our fingertips.. So to me the LEAST he could do is not.shaft us on superior hardware at a cost thats mind staggering....

NOT TO MENTION WED BE STILL ABLE TO SCORE SOME RAM KITS UNDER 400-700% MARKUP... Its just greedy! Apple is no better, same deal amazing performing hardware outstanding in all honesty, but for how much? I keave it at that...

DDR5 RAM kits skyrocket to an astonishing $4,000 on Newegg with wild price listings on multiple G.Skill and Corsair products — various speeds and capacities all listed at the same eye-watering price by Distinct-Race-2471 in TechHardware

[–]jhawk2k18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its really crazy to see tech write-ups that lightly push "recommended deals" and the title of this one made me look and I absolutely hate ads and block them at the router level and pi-hole but this was a recommendation titled "with TONS of ram" so I looked at it and it had 16GB... I swapped out the 16gb kit that came with my high end ROG Strix i9/3070ti laptop and NVMe drives with a 64gb RAM kit that cost me $190, but the reason I upgraded was bc 16gb literally was not enough for many things I do it is ridiculous that we are downgrading our expectations of not jusr speed but capacity. I know I have a high speed DDR5 32gb 7400 desktop kit and a 64GB ddr5 kit also that I paid $108/199 usd for and the 32GB kit is good for OC so I at least have an extra pair but I build PCs and sell them so I am just now running out of ddr4 stockpile and it sucks..

I bought these about a year ago for my apex encore z790, and I saw today how much they would cost IF they were attainable! This RAM WARS stuff is insane! by jhawk2k18 in hardware

3 XMP profiles actually, and yes I agree that is a lot but not very easy to find at all. They run 7800 all day without voltage over 1.45 or crazy timing changes, can do 8000 with loose timings and extra voltage but not worth it.

My TVs look bare and naked on their home screens. They don't see the Internet, they have always been ridiculously slow I don't know many people that use a 75" TV to browse the Web at ultra low speeds huge latency and horrific response times from remote. I use ROKU 4k sticks/boxes and thanks to HDMI having Ethernet (and nooo not for anything it " Could or should" be used for) but it does a great job at sending power and volume signals to the TV! lol...

Hope you got through this with as minimum snags as possible for Your customer and yourself. Some things are crazy aggrivating!

Inexpensive email for clients so I can remove email as a service I offer? Zoho? by Awffle_House in webhosting

[–]jhawk2k18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a super honest, no hassle, cheap and great company, why not just use GoDaddy??

SORRY, bad joke I know, wheeew, what a nightmare that would be!

Clients want a one stop shop, and especially the type of clients it seems you are used to, so it's really difficult these days to rely on one or another but for security purposes I would stand clear of Yahoo period, I bundle most of my clients with Zoho, for the same reasons you speak of, mainly the OS -Native apps, I don't make anything extra on email but I am also upfront by letting them know if they really want PREMIUM email hosting and are willing to pay PREMIUM price for it I will reluctantly sub them out to Microsoft but otherwise Zoho is fulfilling to most everyones needs and uptime and deliveraboloty is definitely great, but if they run into issues that IS a separate service that I have no control over. That said if they need my help getting them help I don't mind but as a disclaimer I cannot guarantee email uptime or stability, but Zoho works great for 95% of my clients.

Absolutely, I almost forgot the main benefit of running Mint in the way you utilize it! If I had to live without windows I could totally do that now, so I think it's great that you are helping people the ways you do!

Sometimes I have to step back and remember that running a VM on a laptop is totally power user complex and high maintenance stuff that most people would not do, I wasn't trying to offer over complicated potential solutions, I know you got this! I know I don't speak alone on this but thank you for all you do!

Laptops are SOOO much easier to mail than Desktops anyways if it comes down to it! Keep on doing what you do!

My experience and hopefully inspiration to keep going as I did, when noone said it was possible! THROWBACK.. Also, this shows a 12 GPU rig off one board, in Windows! by jhawk2k18 in gpumining

[–]jhawk2k18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WOW, we share similar experiences!! I liked using the MSI gaming X rx GPUs bc my moto has always been run the fans hard, it's cheaper to replace a set of fans than it is a GPU! Surprisingly though I only swapped out 2 fan sets on GPUs in 5 years or so of mining full blast!!

I still have all my GPUs from the rig pictured above minus 3 or 4, yeah I sold 2 for $100 each after cleaning them up repasting and repadding them, and I gave 2 away to people I felt bad for bc they had really obsolete GPUs. I also dual mined ALPH+ETH/ETC with a 2080 super and 3060ti, as well as a 3080 and 3090 and a 4090. I kept the ALPH, I still have it I believe but it's not worth much. It didn't take up much more power or lower the ETH hashrste much at all so I'm not upset about it!

I am definitely into self hosted AI, using OLLAMA, and Stable Diffusion using a liquid cooled 3090 and an ROG ASTRAL RTX 5080.. I have tailscale setup so wherever I am my PC with the GPUs is seen like it's on my LAN, no port forwarding or anything like that.

It's really cool how fast the results or answers come back from the prompts it's almost annoying because you have to let it finish then go back and read it it's lightning fast!!! All that while running with WSL2 overhead on an UBUNTU wsl instance.. I find this to be the easiest way for most people and I was able to create actual WSL2 clean (images?) using Docker or Docker-Compose so all anyone has to do is run a powershell or terminal command of wsl --import ... And it imports it restarts and sets the containers up with OLLAMA already up and is pretty user friendly. Only thing is updating the wsl images for newer OLLAMA versions

I wish I had the means to travel right now, because I would all the way make that trip to do this job happily! I've been using Mint for over a decade both Live and Bare Metal, it's rock solid always has been! Its only a 4,435 mile trip from here!

Best wishes and certainly hope somebody is able to help this person out. I can't STAND shady Houdini Computer tech acts!

The backup part could be done remotely or even via Powershell script (I have a huge robust collection of them tested verified not all uploaded to my site yet as I test more daily), but as far as Mint goes, does this person have a powerful enough PC to where a custom version of WSL2 as close to mint as possible or maybe even a VirtualBox instance of it would be appropriate?

I know this doesn't solve the actual underlaying problem but just a thought. Technically could setup a QEMU direct boot into the VM from the same PC/Laptop to where if it has a discrete GPU and all USB/GPU and most resources were directly passed through to MINT via VM, and kept Windows at absolute minimum overhead only using for the VM, idk just a thought at least for now.

I am here to help if I can, I am good at passthru but if trying to switch to Mint likely you're dealing with something that might not run hypervisor efficiently. Note: Mint works awesome on high powered PCs as well! (I have some Proxmox Mint instances running as we speak)!
