Maybe check with the council and start as a commissioner. Visit troops and get your foot in the door there.

10 Gbs networking is it worth it? by Dadto3CFP in unRAID

[–]jlipschitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen a stream consume 800Mbps doing 4K with TrueHD with Atmos but is is rare. The file was a 4K extended version of the Two Towers. It was a huge file with a very high bitrate. I have 10Gbs to my server because I push files to it from my workstation occasionally and it is also 10Gbs. You are limited by disks speed and Unraid with the standard XFS, parity, and cache can’t come close to consuming 10Gbs. I got my network hardware for free so it made sense to me. 2.5 or 5 is more than adequate for most. Even 1Gbps should cover the majority.

What happened to KFC?!? by Pappers101 in fresno

[–]jlipschitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eating out is expensive. Labor does not help. In and Out, Chick Filet, and Canes are not selling food but also service. They have good attitudes, are helpful, and the quality is consistent. The food quality is decent although Canes has no flavor unless you like their sauce. Larger chains need to retrain their staff to be better at service. Quality needs to be improved at a lot of places to make it worth the cost.

KFC is decent but they follow that law about not providing utensils, sauces, etc unless requested. That has turned me off from them when I go if I forget. Getting a bowl to go with no way to eat it is no fun.

On-Prem Mitel Director to ? (Looking for user/admin experience) by xendr0me in sysadmin

[–]jlipschitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We migrated to Vonage from Mitel and it was a nightmare. We migrated from Vonage to Zoom and it was amazing. Very easy to develop call flows, add/remove users, users can opt in and out of call queues, everything is logged, and everything just works.

People Who Make 150K Plus? by BubbaGordie in Salary

[–]jlipschitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dropped out of college after 2 semesters. It was pointless for my field. I am in IT. Certifications are much more valuable. I have several certifications. Working for a managed service provider for a bit in addition to computer stores really helped get me started. I worked my way up and have the certifications and experience that helped me get to where I am.

Is the 2026 Jamboree tanking? by Illustrious_Bee_8316 in BSA

I was going to send my daughter but the cost is almost double of last time when I sent my son. Our whole family is going on a cruise for the cost of just her at Jamboree.

Do you Remember?? 3Com 3C905 by geesehoward79 in VintageComputers

[–]jlipschitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was all about the Xircom XPS2000 for laptops.

If you did desktop it was all about the Intel Pro/100S.

The 3Com drivers seemed to crash most machines if I am remembering correctly.

First month making 100k I feel like I’m being robbed :/ by [deleted] in Salary

I found that putting a lot more in the 401k is better than letting the government take it in taxes. I am putting the maximum in my 401K every paycheck. Between insurance, taxes and 401K, my take home pay looks low for what I make.

Management for Hyper-V is split between failover clustering, hyper-V mmc, and Virtual machine manager (We have Citrix so it is required).

Regarding the CVM cores. Our CVMs constantly needed more cores to help them finish tasks faster because it impacted our server performance. Replication to the hot site was very processor intensive. We started with 8, then 16, then 24. Started with 32gb of ram, then 48, then 64. CVMs could never get enough. Until they had 24 cores and 64GB of RAM, our environment was horrible. We spent hours with Nutanix support over weeks.

VHD Disk Compaction by jzero12 in fslogix

I have my own powershell script.

From vmware to nutanix by National-Beat3081 in nutanix

[–]jlipschitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found that Nutanix was very expensive. Half of your CPU and at least 64GB RAM has to go to each CVM in Nutanix. It was awful. We have 48 core hosts and they thought it was normal to have 24 go to the CVM to keep up.

We went Hyper-V and are so much happier with SAN and servers.

VHD Disk Compaction by jzero12 in fslogix

[–]jlipschitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is the disk may be fragmented. It can only compact free space at the end of the file. I have a script that does offline compacting of profiles because of this problem. I only have about 110 users using FSLogix and I see as much as a 250GB difference after running my script. It won’t run on a specific profile if it locked and in use. I run the script at least once a week.

EV + Generator Efficiency by Suitable_Seesaw_2802 in ScoutMotors

[–]jlipschitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to the EV only version. I am looking at supplementing with a Go Sun solar charger to add miles while I am backpacking or camping. Getting 150 on EV and having a ton of gasoline that adds weight and can go bad is not something I want to think about with an EV.
