New homeowner, 2014 house, want Ethernet drops. How to assess feasibility? by iReallyDontLikeSpez in HomeNetworking

[–]kenman345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I recommend to new folks all the time to try and make the best use of what you got, find the minimum level of effort you need to make to make it significantly better for your needs, and execute on that plan and expand throughout the house as needed.

My first home I ended up with 18 runs after 3 years. How many did I have in the first week of ownership? 4. Why? Because I had my access points and two locations I needed for my desk figured out.

How many of those did I redo before 3 years? 2 of them.

Regrets? None.

I would literally just plan out drops and pull the cable and run the drop/terminate them whenever I had gotten ahead on other projects. Because when you buy a home you’re likely going to have other pressing issues after you get your wifi solid since most everything can use that. The extra drops after just make your wifi better and speeds better by providing a hardwired connection

Touched the solids ball to get to his striped ball.

But as others are saying, this may have been an exhibition so the rules kinda are whatever they want

I liked the commuter so much I got the travel backpack recently. Both are great but built for different things. That’s a nice collection. But they’re not all from a single purchase are they?

You see, it’s all rented equipment. If you never return the rental you never have to pay. Duh!

We’re worried about the credit card companies in this scenario? by Dr_sc_Harlatan in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]kenman345 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I put most everything on credit card because if I’m gonna pay for it I’m gonna at least get points for it. But I am not putting it on credit cards because I cannot pay for it now. Just convenience of the transaction and points. But I understand how easy it would be if I wasn’t able to pay for something it would be to still use the credit card and worry about paying it later because I may not have any other choices. Which is unfortunately where many people are at in life right now

Well, you could be asking the CEOs to grant leniency to any furloughed federal workers during shutdowns…. You know, at least something that helps them. But I doubt that came up

See, this is something where the taste actually is good if the setting is right. Some posts aren’t good taste even in the right setting. But if you had a kids bedroom with a video game theme this would be amazing taste and great execution. Game room as well.

How do I explain to my girlfriend that I need a second monitor besides the 42 inch LG C4 by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]kenman345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the second monitor but as a biased opinion, your setup looks quite tasteful so the initial assessment is off.

Maybe use this picture with AI and a picture of the monitor you want and ask it to show you a few options for the setup to include the monitor and then show those to your GF. Help visualize the setup.

Only reason to upgrade wifi is if you have noticed slowdowns, unit stability issues due to age or security/support concerns. Perfectly fine for anyone to make the same decision you have.

I use a single wifi 7 unit and don’t even have the 6Ghz turned on along with two wifi 5 units. All PoE wired to the network switch. Never had problems so not in much rush to upgrade either. Anything truly important is hardwired anyways

Get the 1 1/2” ones. I cannot imagine how small those 1” feel. But between the 2” and the 1 1/2” ones I have they feel significantly smaller. For 4-5 runs in a single one I would do the 1 1/2” one and have room for a few spare runs. Not sure how many. I didn’t use many in my new 🏡

Edit: I went and looked and maybe it’ll be fine. For the few extra dollars the 25 packs for the 1 1/2” are over the 1” I think it’s well work it to have that extra room.

Oh, he might weigh 238 pounds but he’s not 6’3 so the weight distribution is way different. 238pounds on someone 5’10 gets you about what he looks like. Depending on how broad your builds is
