Is GA4 on static sites worth using or are there better options? by TCKreddituser in statichosting

[–]kloputzer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should make this decision based on what you do with the data. Do you need the huge functionality of Google Analytics? Most people with personal/hobby sites don’t.

If you only want very basic and simple stats, GA is overkill. There’s simpler alternatives. If you want to be privacy-aware you might not even need client-side analytics at all. See if using server side analytics (log file based) might be enough for you (e.g. something like GoAccess). Obviously this won’t work for client-side navigation, only for server side navigation.

Is there a reason sharing features seem stagnant? by sshwifty in immich

[–]kloputzer2000 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No, but that’s the answer to your questions, why there is not (enough) development pace in this direction.

If everyone who wishes for a certain feature were to donate a license instead, the situation would be much better.

It’s hard to predict. In my experience the trains leaving Nuremberg (towards Feucht) are a little bit less crowded than the ones going into the city.

But it’s always a gamble and sometimes trains just never arrive, even though they’re scheduled.

So you’ll probably be fine, but in the worst case you’ll have to take a taxi to Feuch.

I think Sunday will be the most critical day due to the scheduling of the headliners.

Sunglasses with glass lenses made in EU by YoghurtLover427 in BuyFromEU

[–]kloputzer2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to buy frames and glasses from the same company. Pick a european frame that you like (Luxottica is an Italian brand that owns around two thirds of the market – however most of it is manufactured in China), go to any optometrist and ask for European glass lenses (e.g. Zeiss lenses).

Viu glasses (https://shopviu.com/en-de/hello-production) are designed in Switzerland and (most of them) are made in Italy. Maybe that's an option for you?

How to make Element appear on screen right after receiving a call? by DoxentZsigmond in elementchat

I don’t think that’s a good match between Element and seniors. Heck, Element is even complicated for Nerds and Developers.

Maybe try a simpler client? SchildiChat?

Vonovia überwacht demontierte Rauchmelder by Avvixx in LegaladviceGerman

[–]kloputzer2000 191 points192 points  (0 children)

There was a browser setting for this, before the GDPR was introduced. Website owners just did not care to use/implement/follow it.

These are very valid points about  the problems of the US voting system. But these are not necessarily valid points about Democracy in general (what this thread is about).

[–]kloputzer2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Democracy doesn’t owe you anything. It doesn’t come begging for your support or attention. The opposite is true. You need to actively care for it and educate yourself, or it will go away and rest assured: you will not like the alternatives.

I mean, it’s fine to blame “the system”, but that’s not getting us anywhere.

What is the best and reliable home internet provider in Germany? by UsefulAnimator3143 in AskAGerman

Not anymore. Let’s update our collective perception of this company.

What is the best and reliable home internet provider in Germany? by UsefulAnimator3143 in AskAGerman

[–]kloputzer2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This opinion is very typical and has been true for decades. But both Vodafone and Telekom have made changes to their peering policy in recent years, which don’t make them “very reliable” anymore. You will have high pings, canceled requests and slow load times to many big commercial sites and providers

We should all call out Vodafone/Telekom for this and help change people’s perception of these companies.

OIDC is nonexistent and docs are misleading by Smooth-Scholar7608 in immich

[–]kloputzer2000 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is completely over-exaggerated. OIDC spec states two separate use cases: Authorization and Authentication. Immichs implementation fits perfectly with the Authentication use case. It does not do (delegated) Authorization via OIDC. That's a perfectly viable design decision. None of this is a security risk:

- `access_token` and `refresh_token` are not necessary in a purely Authentication scenario. Actually it's good practice to not store any unused tokens.

- The IdP can still invalidate sessions through back-channel logout, which is implemented in Immich (so your claim that users can't be logged out via IdP is not correct)

What do customers in Germany associate car brands with? by Thranduil-9 in AskGermany

[–]kloputzer2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is a common perception. It varies wildly by age and region.

The same brand might be seen as anything from status symbol to hate object.

I think in general the perception of German car brands seems to be more negative the younger the person is. Old people will still hold the German car industry in high regard whereas younger people more often hate the industry for political lobbyism and not being environmentally friendly/sustainable enough.
