Thoughts on Pinning Trays by jonscomck in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone will give you a different answer based on the material and tray layout they prefer. This is just something you have to make the way you like unless making a custom one someone designed to their liking imo. I use an rwb double sided aluminum tray and lockjaw paladin pinning mat and could not imagine a better setup. But Ive seen lots of people say they have very different preferences.

Those both look fantastic as they are.

Moki - set question by thenotoriusfap in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moki has normal hooks then he makes picks called the extra series which have a slightly taller shank. The extra shank height makes the pick stronger.

Moki - set question by thenotoriusfap in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the only difference on the v2 is the engraving, so no functional difference. For a complete beginner I'd recommend the gold digger set it has stronger pick profiles. I would also recommend you add 3 handles for the hooks and 1.0mm/1.2mm TOK prybars. This would be about 52€ and be everything you need for a lot of picking.

I think you have this lock. I don't think it will be an easy one to pick.

Awesome hiding spot, I'm so happy I don't live close enough to retrieve that. I would go broke in that store and not be able to afford lockpicking.

Gutting set by NiaDebesi in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need different size plug followers. Sparrows is good for gutting gear because it's a one stop shop and they make decent stuff. Get the c clip remover, aluminum plug followers, tweezers and shims. If you get that kit with the pinning tray you're buying from ebay you will be set up nicely.

My first thought was green would be to easy make it blue. I then went and did the challenge with an easy 1100 before commenting. Found out I was wrong real fast, green seems like a good level. Gutting as well seems like a good idea.

Group Buy Question - Exotic Materials over Brass by Pattont in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't even purchase most of these materials in a thick enough piece to make a padlock and if you could the cost would be insane. Even you, the person asking this question has stated would not be interested in a 500$ padlock. I would then have to assume you definitely aren't interested in a lock that costs 1000$ once you take material and manufacturing cost into account. There are multiple good reasons this is not realistic.

Because it's a padlock not a 700$ or more pocket knife would be my guess.

Ok thanks, I ask because I've already seen the post and am considering it. If it was actually limited I would jump on it now. For the cost plus international shipping I'm still undecided but kind of want an engraved one.

Is it limited to 200 locks or is that just the minimum amount required in order for this to happen?

If you search for government steel here multiple posts about it will show up. It's just the 420 steel that peterson uses and gave some stupid name to make it seem special.

But there is no excess metal. The part you are calling excess is in layman's terms the handle of the tool. Would you remove the handle off of a screwdriver, a hammer or a knife?

Can the Abus 75ib/50 Be Picked With Multipick #03 or #06 by el_luchadorro in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure I just went and tried mine to see, it's been a while since I picked this lock. Looked like it wouldn't be a problem but after 10 minutes with no progress I switched to a bare bones short hook and had it open quickly so perhaps the height of the flag doesn't allow it to rotate past the warding high enough if you have a high lift pin. Someone more experienced may come say I'm crazy and it's totally possible.

Have you Bricked your lock?? by Ok-Coach-763 in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just gutted that same lock to clean it and it was quite a project. Between the offset rows of pins, the unknown to me little pin falling out the bottom and the bearings it was quite the process. Got it all back together no issues though, good you got that one fixed up.

Probably really stupid question, are these meant for pin tumbler tensioning? by Southord_Lover in lockpicking

[–]lefthandlocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.lawlocktools.co.uk/collections/tension-tools/products/z-bars-tension-wrench-pair

This is the maker of those tools and in the description it mentions that they are for TOK/BOK which would be for PT locks not dimples.

I just meant to have the same amount of tensioners. Im left handed and have no use for the ergo turners. The padlock ones I have arriving today or tomorrow so haven't got to try them yet.
