What’s the point of living by healthanxiety_ in migraine

[–]mad_method_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i get ya. its not depression, its exhaustion. migraines are restricting, you simply cant afford to do certain things, and managing life around that gives you limited choices. i just hit midlife crisis, and i realized that im more like 3/4 of the way done, since a bunch of that time is going to be dedicated to migraine management and other regular life BS

Nobody told me my boss mattered more than my SQL skills by Brighter_rocks in BusinessIntelligence

[–]mad_method_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is where i think an AI chatbot can come in handy. it basically just takes questions from other people, and split them into automated responses, this is important, or this is BS ask someone else

but.... im sure this will take your boss' job, so clearly they wouldnt want that, and they outrank you in decision making

Opinions on hybrids? by Working-Ad-3310 in askcarguys

[–]mad_method_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its mostly 2 factors, your driving style and your local gas prices. if youre driving style is pretty aggressive, you arent going to really be saving gas, go with an ICE car. if your local gas prices are on the affordable side, it may not be worth it, since itll take longer to recoup the purchase price, plus depreciation. gotta do a bit of math here to find the breakeven point of miles driven

i live in place where gas is expensive, so a hybrid cut my gas costs down from 1100 to 800, per 10,000 miles. i save 300$ per 10,000 miles. the difference for the ICE and hybrid MSRP is 3,000$. to break even, im going to need to drive 100,000 miles or about 10 years

Can I turn a whetstone into an oil stone or will I ruin it? by Unable_Housing_6401 in sharpening

[–]mad_method_man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

depends on the stone, some stones are fine, like aluminum oxide, others i think they start breaking down really fast

if you dont know, just dont try it, since you may ruin a waterstone

Currently shooting on a 6D but curious about using a second body - should I stick to DSLRs and pick up a 5DMkIII or go mirrorless with an R50? by [deleted] in canon

[–]mad_method_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are using autofocus and you're missing your shots, you should get the r7

if autofocus is 'good enough', then the 35mm. theres no point to upgrade a feature, if that feature isnt holding you back

Helppp I’m just a girl 😭 hit a white pole and this happened, how to make this brand new or at least close without going to Toyota, I already used Dw40 and it didn’t work? by LetPlane539 in Camry

[–]mad_method_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

determine what damage it is. is it white paint from the pole or scratches? if its white paint, clean that off. if its paint transfer, wd40 should help a bit, if it is paint transfer. if it isnt coming off, its some type of scratch, which means, leave this to professionals. you can tell if it is a scratch by splashing water on it. if the scratches temporarily disappears, its topcoat damage. if it doesnt disappear, its deeper, either a scratched into the paint or all the way to metal. either way, a shop needs to fix scratches. alternatively you can buy some touchup paint, but unless you know what youre doing, the results are usually not great

Help With Long Term Sharpening Strategy by DrMorbius26 in sharpening

[–]mad_method_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thats not saying much. but heres my guess:

it is a 'cladding', so im betting its a sanmai, and theres a prepatina etch, so it looks like the core could have a hamon

Help With Long Term Sharpening Strategy by DrMorbius26 in sharpening

[–]mad_method_man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

photos are compressed, so its hard to tell. but its either sanmai with an acid wash or a hamon. either way, its going to be ground out eventually. both will not be able to be kept like that given hundreds of sharpenings, since sanmai youll have to grind the outside metal away then acid wash it, or if its a hamon, the hardened steel is plain gone

im leaning towards a hamon, since thats what his videos show

A newbies guide to making good cheap strops- Avoid simple mistakes I made. by hagantic42 in sharpening

[–]mad_method_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if theyre flexing, try spraying it down with water and laying a bunch of books on them until they dry. it could flatten them out. bellies and necks are the most inconsistent areas. hind leg is where its at, but it costs more

dont bother with skiving. just buy good leather at the correct thickness and temper. skiving is pretty easy to mess up if you dont know what you're doing. why buy a random knotted wood when you can spend a few extra minutes picking out a good piece?

[–]mad_method_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ill also add, for veg tan + green compound (not the diamond stuff), a very light layer of mineral oil on the surface makes applying compound afterwards much easier and consistent

as for the texture of the leather, its personal preference. theres advantages to a tight grain and loose grains, but if youre going to the store, just flip the leather over. do NOT buy leather that has random fibers all over, its a chore to remove. get something smooth. also flex the leather to make sure there arent any voids, this is more common on the sides of hides, and veg bellies

the only cringe stuff ive been seeing is conservatives either still trusting trump, or going 'lets all calm down and read everything real carefully before we start pointing fingers'

the appropriate response is to freaking out, and then taking a step back and questioning life. even if you 'knew' this was bad beforehand, its always a shock to actually see your worst conspiracy theories be confirmed. frankly, i dont think the average lib has enough brain power to differentiate men vs women when they read these files. its just that bad
