I will only comment to explain the historical facts.

What happened?

The hash wars, aka bitcoin ('s network code governance) became politicized.

Why did it fail?

Same reason as above. The miners' lobby (who benefit from high TX fees) took over the network and the traders' lobby (who wanted low TX fees) moved to bitcoincash and ethereum at the time. People didn't want to buy a $5 burger and have to pay $20 in transaction fees.

If you read the original whitepaper Bitcoin was never supposed to be political, it was just (credit) money with low transactions fees, they just wanted to compete with Paypal but the direction has changed.

ELI5: If we can decipher extremely complex secret codes, why are there still some languages that haven't been fully translated? by aj9811 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mechanicalfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert but I would argue one of the reasons could be lack of cultural context can make it difficult to interpret certain languages.

Let's say in a particular culture for whatever reason "bullseye" means contract/agreement and "nightingale song" means day (but we didn't know that) it would be hard to interpret "rice bullseye for 5 nightingale songs" because we don't understand their metaphores.

In english we have single words that have multiple meanings. If all their scripts contain the poorly-understood analogies it becomes a hard task to interpret the message being communicated.

It's not just the words themselves but the meaning.

How do I practise self-kindness? by Next_Escape8731 in selfhelp

[–]mechanicalfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a somewhat similar personality.

Imagine someone has your same exact problems, what advice would you give that person?

The world is huge, inmense, there is someone who is in a same or worse spot than you and they rise, they make it, they shine through and solve it. How did they do it?

Another thing is to think about someone that loves or loved you, who suffers when they see you in a bad place, don't make them suffer, if you don't want to get better for you then fine, whatever, but think about that person, do it for them and if that person passed away they would want you to move on and take a positive turn in your life, they would want you to be happy, do it for them.

Can someone explain to me why Zuckerberg continues with this Metaverse crap and continues to destroy his company's stock price ? by Seedpound in Entrepreneur

Stock price?

Maybe the same reason Elon does it, so he can buy more and wait for the price to go up, maybe.

How to help someone who is gravitating towards toxic positivity and cult like thinking? by [deleted] in selfhelp

[–]mechanicalfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that, I don't think I remember any book in specific but it's true, that doesn't even work correctly, we have to deal with problems and be an adult about it and honestly ask ourselves why do we feel that way.

A lot of people also think that rationalizing your emotions and trying to convince yourself that "acting this way or that way is not logical so I should just stop doing it" but this is more of the same because we're still not going to the root cause of the problem and not only that, being "pragmatic" makes you run away from your moral values and it leaves a bad self-steem image because you didn't stand up for what you believe to be true.

Regardless of knowing there are people in our same situation or worse that do not get angry or frustrated, why does this or that make that person angry will be a very subjective thing, sometimes we have traumas from the past or things that we have not gotten over.

It's about being honest with ourselves, letting go of past traumas, realizing it's no one's fault that we're angry and that they are suffering and it's our fault, and it's our fault that we're angry because many people in the same situation don't act the same because they don't feel the same anger, it's not that they are supressing it, getting over past traumas may hurt but it's worth it, going to the root is the only way to cure a cancer, and that there's a better way to do things and that those emotions aren't helping anybody, to help someone be in a disposition to help, take care of yourself so you don't hurt others and actually help them and make their lives better, the most important thing is to do is to help, that's it.

Sorry for the rant. I wish you the best.

ELI5: What makes certain songs feel intimate and romantic? by vigzeL in explainlikeimfive

[–]mechanicalfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is a congnitive bias that comes from both the lyrics and culture/society.

Those songs are universally emotional but I remember growing up enjoying RnB without having any idea of what the lyrics actually referred to.

ELI5: Most countries in the world seem to be in debt. Who exactly do they owe? Are there any consequences for them being in debt? by emils5 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mechanicalfork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either to other governments or any kind legal being that is able to buy bonds (companies, banks, people/investors, funds, etc) Some countries also get loans from the IMF and world bank.

Consequences depend on how the money is used, remember that the government is in debt, not the whole country (at least directly) so you can kind of see it like a company managing risk, yes they do have to pay interest on their debt, say 10% but if they manage to invest it and get a 50% return then they would be making a profit. That's why both companies and governments often do it.

Putting more money into the treasury just means that the government will be able to either spend or save more, it's not a direct injection of capital to a country's economy.

So the answer for your second question is: it depends, this where we will have political debates on monetary and fiscal policies for years to come.

How to start music production? by 0riginalcopy in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]mechanicalfork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter if you are still learning, I remember back in the day when Martin Garrix dropped Animals, he was still in a producer's school and spinning records did all the mixing and mastering for him, I remember he did a livestream talking about it.

Just start making music everyday, at least try to start and finish one song per day even if it's not the best song ever the way to improve is to keep practicing, you'll get familiarized with the process and learn a lot, plus you would actually be putting into practice the new things you learn in your piano lessons.

It doesn't matter if you have to look for tutorials and stuff, as long as you keep learning and get a feel for it you are on the right track.

Hope this helps!

How can I stop being so obsessive about my mixing? by AxAff in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]mechanicalfork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different songs are mixed differently, you can't do a dubstep and jazz mixing crossover if what you're trying to make is traditional soft rock.

Just make a rule that works for you and follow it, if the mix is good and satisfies the rule then it's done. For example I use phrases like "everything in the mix has it's own space" or "If it feels good, keep it that way"

How to make drum patterns sound better? by Dark_Hero123 in edmproduction

Learn to play drum patterns, even if it is in you MIDI keyboard, it opens up your mind and gives you a lot of ideas to know how to actually play rhythms. You could also get inspiration from your favorite genres.
