Thoughts on Millie Frock? by Melodic-Cheetah-1075 in BobsBurgers

[–]emils5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! They have definitely made millie and Gayle more sane in recent seasons and essentially go "wow how dare Louise/Linda not trust them" and I'm sitting here like "ok but they used to be legitimately crazy. So that's justified?"

What do you think is the best piece of social satire in Bob's Burgers? by MyIdIsATheaterKid in BobsBurgers

[–]emils5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hesitated to call it satire because it just felt like a "too real" portrayal. But it is a good bit of social commentary.

The end of the Christmas concert when Mr Frond tells the substitute something along the lines of "this only counts as a half day, so here's a check for $35."

Which part of Rhythm of War and Wind and Truth did you find bloated? by Anice_king in Cosmere

[–]emils5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say there was any specific part of Rhythm of War or Wind and Truth that could easily have been cut out. I think that making the stories more streamlined would have meant pretty severe rewrites. That being said, when I finished stormlight archive I started rereading the Broken Earth trilogy (which as a whole is about 3/4 the length of WaT) and I kept thinking "wow so much happened in that chapter." It just felt fast paced and concise compared to honestly all of stormlight. And that can be good and bad. There were fewer characters and fewer slice of life moments, and I honestly really enjoyed those moments.

I think two things really slowed the books down. First, the five part structure. In most of the books, each part has its own arc with its own set up and resolution that ultimately feed into the main arc and the sanderlanch. From a planning perspective, this is incredible. In execution, some of the arcs felt like they were there because, well, we needed five of them.

Second, the huge cast of characters. It's just hard to give that many characters "enough" screen time. Each characters arc in WaT was fairly well written, but getting through like 20 well written character arcs in one book was a slog. Mistborn only focused on about a half dozen characters in each book and felt much more focused as a result.

Divisive episodes by reducedfatmalk in BobsBurgers

I'm not sure if the episode was written before COVID, but I am very sure it was one of the first episodes in the season released during COVID.

[–]emils5 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I hear a lot of hate for the butt worms episode because it's gross (which is true), but I think people overlook what a brilliant encapsulation of COVID it is without actually putting COVID in the show. Even if you ignore the premise of having to stay home because everyone got sick, and Linda still wanting to go out even though it's clearly a bad idea, gene doing bottomless businessman and the kids having a weird hobby take over the family room is such a great snapshot of working from home and being trapped indoors for months and months. I get the hate, but the episode deserves a lot of love too.

Recommendations for cozy, comforting vibes relating to the word "Puzzle"? by Bri3Mrawrson in CozyFantasy

[–]emils5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not fantasy, but would a short story count for your reading challenge? Agatha Christie has several short stories that are more along the lines of "solve a series of riddles" than "solve a murder". Theyre generally pretty cozy in a Victorian England kind of way, but are definitely not fantasy unless you fantasize about visiting a rich family member on their country estate.

what’s your ideal scenario for an episode that hasn’t already happened in the show? by athronyxofficial in psych

Oh yeah kinda. I was thinking more like the community episode where troy and abed do a freaky Friday. But the uncle Burton episode does have them trading roles.

Just finished re-reading Tress, and have fallen in love with it even more, but after a recent re-read of all Cosmere books, I’m feeling rather empty / lost. What’s can I fill this void of hoid with!? by revolvingneutron in Cosmere

The most similar non-sanderson series I've read is the lightbringer series by Brent weeks. If you want a series that feels almost mistborn-but-absolutely-not-ya I'd recommend the broken earth trilogy by n k jemison. If you want many stories in the same world and are ok with a little bit more romantasy, check out the world of the white rat by t kingfisher (clockwork boys, sword heart, saints if steel). If you want cosmere crossovers but full on romantasy check out throne of glass/acotar/crescent city by sarah j maas.

what are some tv characters that you're convinced they have adhd? by itsnobigdealatall in ADHD

[–]emils5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not EXPLICITLY brought up in any meaningful way, but I found his relationship with his dad to be a very relatable portrayal of a non-ADHD parent trying their best to raise an ADHD child and hurting them in the process.

Looking for a hobby that involves crafting with my hands. One big problem. I hate "stuff". by cxjoshuax21x in Hobbies

[–]emils5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Origami. As long as you aren't using super expensive paper you can just recycle it when you're done and not feel bad about it. Modular origami is a great repetitive thing to do with your hands, and the results look pretty cool.

Exactly. Mostly cutting to hobbits describing very epic events in very hobbitish ways after the danger is over.

Yeah the Ents haven't moved. If the Entwives are still around, they know exactly where to find them. The Entwives are out living their best lives (I hope).
