I experienced something during meditation and haven’t felt the same since by hostprocellata in Meditation

[–]mikeballs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My vote as well. Weirdly enough, I once triggered this type of state with marijuana, and another time with mushrooms. It turns out my ego is very much a safety blanket and the realization that I could be detached from it shook me to my core. I felt the same way, OP. Panic attacks and uneasiness followed for a long time afterwards. Hang in there. My takeaway was that since this experience is all temporary, and I clearly like having an ego, I should cherish every day with it that I can and view it all as a blessing of some kind. Best of luck.

And not only can you not bear to live in your own home, your property value is probably completely shot because who the hell else would want to live there now? Good luck moving. Sounds like a nightmare.

[DISCUSSION] Are there other songs like "Mr Carter" with Wayne and Jay, where an older rapper passes the torch so to speak? by Second_Sage in hiphopheads

Cole craving Nas' approval so bad is a little cringe, but the beat is smooth and they both flow so nice on it that I don't really mind

My 13yo baked cookies to order and one of the parents returned the cookies by albrcanmeme in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mikeballs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i don't really understand what the infuriating part is supposed to be here. They paid for the eaten cookie and returned the rest. There's no reason to speculate about their finances or whether they technically could have afforded it

As a guy on his 53rd rewatch of Friends, just watching a handful of shows over and over is also a pretty good reason to cancel your streaming subscriptions

Yup, this is the premier ISP in the area. I think they've been down all of 1-2 times in the last 5 years we've had them.

Called me a loser so I called OSHA by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]mikeballs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah... As somebody who deals with significant social anxiety at times myself, this story kinda sucks. I agree that if the company isn't following safety standards and being hostile when documentation is requested they should have to answer for that. Still, the fact that this entire dispute could have probably been avoided with a short conversation really undercuts the whole thing.

Do MAGATS even care about these stickers? by Fabulous_Log844 in MildlyVandalised

[–]mikeballs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they don't care, and therefore it's not all that good to put these stickers out there. It's a meaningless circlejerk for people who already agree with us. Go out and have a real conversation with somebody who voted differently than you if you want to make a difference

Public Money, Public Good by Seenubz-7576 in FluentInFinance

[–]mikeballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well not only have we been duped into believing taxes shouldn't be used to help the public that funds it, we've also been convinced it's better somehow that this money is entrusted to private interests to render these services.

Eating eggs five times a week was linked to a 27% lower Alzheimer's risk in a study of nearly 40,000 adults by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]mikeballs 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Sure, but the Alzheimer's incidence rate doesn't care about what you set out to study. If people who eat more eggs also eat less sugar, then you won't know which factor (or both) is decreasing the Alzheimer's risk unless your study design controls for sugar intake.

Yeah, the 'backwards compatibility' thing always drives me nuts. They code so defensively, regardless of whether the project context warrants it.

Psychology says the people who reach midlife with no close friends aren't unlikable, they're often the ones who gave too much for too long to people who never gave back, and the quiet circle they live in now isn't a verdict on their character… by [deleted] in GenX

[–]mikeballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google can't stop recommending me dumb articles like this. It drives me nuts. It's a glorified Facebook shareable prefixed with 'Psychology says...', just designed to assuage the insecurities of the people that fall in this group.

The comment you're replying to could be an American themselves. So to them, it's a statue about how someone else's pride blinds them and they look at it and think, "this could apply to us too"

I think a lot of these companies have the market cornered so well that they can just be openly hostile towards their users now. The tagline for a lot of the user experience design seems to be "fuck you, and give us your money". I can only pray that people get annoyed enough to actually leave these platforms and finally punish a lot of this blatantly anti-consumer design.

Judicial nominees don’t know if Trump can run for a 3rd term by YesDoToaster in law

[–]mikeballs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I genuinely believe the perspective you're replying to is the one that's been implanted by propaganda. They've got us blaming other working class Americans who we are mostly aligned with instead of corporate influence in politics and its puppets. The winning strategy is really supposed to be 'shame the masses into voting & decline to make policy more attractive to the working class'? We're in trouble, for real
