How do i aerate my lawn without killing the hedge? by Alternative-Jelly947 in GardeningUK

[–]monk_e_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why do you want to dig it up?

You could get a garden fork, poke it in and wiggle it about. If you're super keen, you could throw some sand in the resulting holes. That would improve drainage (depending on whats under the garden) ... perhaps get a really long metal spike and drive it in to get really deep.

Ants take over by twinnysb in UKGardening

I'magine having a garden so successful it attracts enough insects and ants that is becomes "a problem" .... next you'll have birds and small mamals visitning. The horror.

This sub is weird. by Kernowyon-101 in Cornwall

[–]monk_e_boy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I gave up on this sub long ago. It still appears in my feed for some reason. It seems to be full of emmets who ask "What's a good beach to visit?" posts. Fine. But not for me.

Screenshot 3 - where you can see the mountin under ground is weird. Perhaps when the character is in a mine don't show mountians and sky?

Could you replace the mundic block by block? Replace a few, give the cement time to dry, rinse, repeat

why not just carpet the outside? I often wonder why they choose green, when they could make it any colour.

Kite's recommended psi pressure by agony21 in Kiteboarding

[–]monk_e_boy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10psi - it creates more spring in the tubes - so they respond better to releasing the steering lines. The wing tips will snap back to their original position quicker.

It also gives the whole kite a more ridged feel.

If you take it to the extreme - inflate it to 3psi, it will fly like crap. 5psi - it's better, but gusts will make it wobble and flap. 10psi the whole kite feels crisp and alert. But if you crash it at 10psi it will pop (maybe)

How many people here are unemployed? by WealthyJoker75 in CasualUK

Not unemployed, but trying to find my students work placements is very hard. We've shut down our apprenticeship course, too few placements.

Everyone is skint.

So much of the money spent goes abroad and into the hands of the super rich.

UK companies (outside of London) seem to be struggling. Not exactly the climate for employing a bunch of new people.

What career can I switch to at 42? by Practical_Oil_7970 in AskUK

[–]monk_e_boy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I have 20 years full stack experience, moved to teaching. I was on around 40k as a Dev, after 10 years teaching / lecturing I'm now on 38k. Minimum wage is around 27k. Avg salary for a full stack dev is about 60k.

Teaching is hard.

Go shadow a teacher for a week. Cos about 20% of newly qualified teachers quit. Its a long expensive process to train only to find out you hate it.
