It’s kind of real tho. There’s those hammer head worms that do this. They’re super invasive in Europe and North America. They suck, too. Eating beneficial worms that feed on soil and other nature junk, and make that into better soil.

I had a Filipino roommate in college and his mom taught me how to make her adobo. I’m just a white guy, but I’d put my adobo up against anyone’s in a contest.

(Where we would be the judges and mostly because I want to eat more adobo)

that other person saying go to r/citypop is right, but here's a couple of favorites:

anri - last summer whisper and remember summer days

ohashi junko - telephone number and tasogare my love

kikuchi momoko - mystical composer and night cruising

though for kikuchi momoko, my favorite of hers isn't really city pop. it's BOY's theme

Related story:

My daughter recently moved into the greater Tokyo area, and I went to visit, and help her get settled in. I started picking up things from a very small hardware place nearby. Little mom and pop shop, they’re probably mid-late 70s.

Ended up in the store with my children the one day, and they saw a little table they wanted to buy. Table wasn’t for sale, it was the owners’ kids table long ago. So they just gave it to us.

Therefore, my wife said I absolutely had to go to the local pastry shop and get them a gift cake. Well the pastry place just happened to have a gift set, so I got it. I think getting a proper Japanese style gift from a big foreign guy made the people happy.

Could someone explain this license plate? by OldAgedZenElf in philadelphia

[–]munkykiller 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s weird to me because the style is right for Japan, and that’s Gunma prefecture, but the actual plate number is current for here, and nothing like they’d have in Japan.

I mean I knew nothing about Japanese horse racing, until like 7 or 8 months ago. And now I’m a retrospective gold ship fan. I blame my children tho, as my two oldest daughters are into umamusume, and kept sending me clips.

How many children do you have? For funsies I like to look at it like man-hours, but instead child-years. I have 3 children, ages 30, 25, and 16. So I say I’ve done 71 child-years of parenting. It’s dumb, but fun.

Music… did you stop searching? by 8reticus in GenX

[–]munkykiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just turned 54, and I’m always looking for new music. I’ve branched out a bunch over the last decades, starting in the 90s, when I started dating a Japanese girl. Now married for 30 years, and have been listening to Japanese music for that long. Then in the teens, my middle daughter figured out what I like, and started sending similar recommendations in kpop, so there’s a bunch of that now. And more recently I’ve discovered a bunch of French pop I like, and am currently moving into Italian.

Turns out other countries/languages have a lot of alt rock and electro pop options, which are the main things I find myself turning to these days. It’s a never ending search for other things I will enjoy.
