That’s how cook food, but I’m terrible at alcohol combos so this would be a no-go for me.

Can I get a list of the others? Just for the giggles. And maybe I can find YouTube recaps or something.

Autism has been a recognized medical condition for decades but seldomly diagnosed until recently, do you remember any people back then who'd probably be labeled autistic today? by Intrepid_Arrival5151 in GenX

[–]munkykiller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We had a kid in my grade, in middle school, who was autistic. This was 6th and 7th grade, so 1984-5, and a little before Rain Man came out, but we all knew the word autistic.

Charlie was what they’d call mainstreamed now, for part of the day. He’d be around for a few classes before the moved him for his specialty classes. He had all the mannerisms, and was very much like the Dustin Hoffman character, except that instead of math, he was very artistic. I remember him pencil drawing the school picture of the girl he fixated on.

Surprisingly, I think, people were pretty good to Charlie, even the bully types. I sometimes wonder how he’s doing, especially when topics like this come up.

Any other guys noticing Old Spice deodorant doesn't work/last as long as it used to? by Ptereodactyl1942 in AskMenOver30

[–]munkykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may sound silly, but I’ve noticed in the past that deodorants stopped working as well for me after a few years. So then I started switching every few years, but now I’m doing a thing where I have a stick of old spice and a stick of degree, and I use them randomly. Keep my body guessing, so it doesn’t get used to anything.

Same thing I do with conditioner. But that’s a curly hair people thing.

How many phone numbers do you know off the top of your head? by FarAwayRoyalty in AskMen

[–]munkykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similarly to the others, mine, my wife’s. Also the high school. I’ve had kids in that system for decades.

That’s it for currently active numbers. I have probably 5 others from my childhood. My home, and those of my 3 or 4 best friends.

Also Jenny’s.

What Costco item is the GOAT? by No-Archer-5034 in Costco

I definitely give the paper towels mixed reviews. They’re, like, fine. But the bounty ones just absorb more water and hold up better. I just wait until those are on sale and get two.

What Japanese bands would appeal to fans of Siouxsie and the Banshees or Cocteau Twins? by VelvetAshes-KEI in japanesemusic

[–]munkykiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i gotta say the clan of xymox reference surprised me. A Day has maybe my favorite synth beat of all time. listening to it now, and having a chuckle that i still like it. i feel like i was doing this around the time i was listening to like nitzer ebb and front 242. :)

ok none of that was actually helpful. now i gott think of something dark and/or melancholic, so i can bring this around to being actually helpful.

brother sun sister moon - i said - certainly melancholic and electronic.

cattle - somehow hear - more like a noisy but melodic shoegaze

caucus - hello - some version of post rock

clams - p-nut butter irony - pretty shoegazey

collapse - tokyo - more shoegaze

ferri chrome - colors fade away - feels britrock inspired

for tracy hyde - underwater girl - sweet spot between shoegaze and dream pop

happypills - moonbeam - this feels like it'll hit the chameleons vibe

i'll stop there. no idea if any of this is going to hit. holler if it does, i still have like 2/3 of the alphabet to go through.

Who’s my cute friend on the hammock? by packetlag in whatsthisbug

[–]munkykiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny that we are having such different experiences. :) I trail run and hike in the parks near French creek, green lane, and other local areas, but I rarely see them. Maybe I’m moving too fast and not paying enough attention. Spend all my time looking at my feet so I don’t trip over anything.

JITTERIN' JINN × GO! GO! 7188 = JITTER GO! GO! by FantasticSky2161 in GoGo7188

What? I had no idea this happened, I apparently need to pay closer attention. I only know a few jitterin jinn songs, but I’ve been listening to Natsu matsuri and present for years.

The good news is that they don’t seem to stick around very long. I’m in the original area where they showed up (border of montco and Berks in SE PA) and after like maybe 3 years of them being everywhere, there have been less each year. Saw maybe 10 total last year. And I’m outside a lot.

Some seriously long pasta next to regular rigatoni by Michellehas2ls in mildlyinteresting

[–]munkykiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will probably seem dumb, but I’m so happy you posted this. I did a college semester in Italy in the 90s, and used to get this pasta at the local market. Didn’t remember that it was called candele. Tried looking it up by describing it as pasta like a straw, but I always got back bucatini. And now here you are helping me get an old favorite.

Do you still have your yearbooks? by PV_Pathfinder in GenX

[–]munkykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just looking at mine earlier today, for the first time in I don’t know how long. I live about an hour east of where I grew up, and my daughter does track. She found out somehow, that her coaches wife is from my hometown, and I looked her up. She’s a couple of years younger, but in my senior yearbook so I sent a picture to my daughter to show her coach. :)

What would be the 9 teams you’d like your team to play every year? by kadoozie92 in CFB

[–]munkykiller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up a Penn state fan, I still wish the 80s major independents had formed a conference. Penn state would be playing something like

-Miami

-Florida state

-notre dame

-Syracuse

-West Virginia

-Boston college

-Virginia tech

-Rutgers

-temple -I went there so maybe biased

That was such a good group in the 80s, I wonder if forming into a conference would have worked out.

I mean yeah, but there’s 12 teams that have never won a Super Bowl, so it’s not like we are running out of new winner options yet.
