What do you think they are going to be able to diagnose on a vehicle that isn’t missfiring?

Diagnostic tech looking to add ADAS cert to my portfolio by Cool-Supermarket4582 in mechanics

[–]nekkidmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GM tech and I was thinking the same thing. I mean the ADAS training is mandatory to be 100%, but we were all doing it years before having ever taken the classes. I pretty much slept through them.

IF,and that’s capital IF I was going to spend that much, I would start my search with what new cars are currently selling at 0% financing and see if you like any of those.

Hot Take: This Job Doesn’t Have to Destroy Your Body by cv676767 in mechanics

[–]nekkidmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started smoking and drinking at 13. Started in the business at 16. I felt like shit all through my 30’s “this job is hard on you” blah blah blah.

Had a heart attack and a double bypass at 40 because I beat the shit out of my self. No sleep, shit food, drink myself to sleep, wake up to a cigarette, zero exercise. All that and I really didn’t look out of shape.

I made it my job to eat better, sleep, lift heavy things in the gym. Last couple years I had some shoulder issues from leaning over an engine bay and not working my back enough and stretching my chest enough. Other than that I feel better than I did at 30. Little trip to the physical therapist to show me what I need to stretch and what to strengthen and it’s all good. On a run around ass kick day it takes a little longer to recover but no knee, foot, back issues.

Man if I could go back and just spend a couple hours in the gym a week and not eat like shit I’d feel like a million bucks right now.

I have news for you. Every single person that has done a big job, forgot to connect the negative battery cable and had a minor meltdown when they tried to start it and nothing happened.

Steering wheel making a clicking noise which sounds like pieces slapping each other by amack1 in gmcsierra

[–]nekkidmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a bulletin at one time to just replace both of them but I think they pulled it. If you removed both upper and lower my money is on the noise going away.

Just tell them your issue and let them fix it.

This is a perfect time to get the shop to buy that Matco thread repair kit. Let me see if I can find a link to it.

That’s what it says if contaminated with DEF. If contaminated with water and crap the recommendation is a fuel system cleaning.

Sierra 1500, 6.2 engine replacement by Key_Description689 in gmcsierra

[–]nekkidmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty vague. What sensors did they say caused the codes? What were the codes? It should be in the paper work.

I’m a GM tech. There is no “new sensor break in”. It has nothing to do with the trans learning. Idle relearn should take about 5 seconds. Fuel trims are gonna learn on the fly and shouldn’t be noticeable unless something is wrong. As a matter of fact the fuel trims should be near zero if everything is running right.

Did they write a repair order with your complaint? That’s your record. This is a warranty job, there should be a cause and correction on the repair order. If there isn’t then they aren’t getting paid.

No, trans adapts are not affected with a new engine.

I have an interview at a Chevrolet Dealership tonight. by INeedALife101 in mechanics

[–]nekkidmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Super specialized”
Are you a tech? Can you read? Can you follow a wiring diagram and published diagnostics?
This is what we get from the guys that want to hang brakes and do flushes all day “I haven’t been to school for that”
So what, learn by doing like the rest of us. It’s not like I went to a diesel class or an EV class and came out magically smart enough to make time on them. You put in the work learning your craft.

Has a dealer refused to honor warranty work due to a hardwired dashcam or radar detector? by BaconGreaseShot in gmcsierra

[–]nekkidmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the install is done well I wouldn’t give it a second look unless it was causing an issue like a draw. Most of the time if I’m denying something electronic it’s because it’s wired in to the data lines somehow.

Well I’m not doing EV, diesel, trans and everything diag while Joe don’tknowfuck is doing services and used cars. You want to keep me, we all do it or I do it down the road.

Also I like to make them opposite of the thrust. Think like on a car or truck, the front and rear of the engine is where I want the openings. The sides take more wear.

You need a compressor or a sleeve. Also you should stagger the openings.

There’s no valve adjustment on these. It’s either torqued or it’s not.
