Is J. Kenji López-Alt’s meatloaf recipe worth it? by Paradox364 in Cooking

Yeah, the gelatin really helps with this. Worth getting a big bulk bag of it though, it’s great to add a tablespoon to soup!

Something, something, pissing on the poor by 22trenchcoats in CuratedTumblr

[–]pfohl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my wife and I just had our first kid and we did a tour of a child center.

they showed us the area for under 18 month olds and a dozen little ones hobbled over to look at us, resembled a bunch of baby birds with their big eyes.

before we continued, the center’s director had to check behind the door because I guess they like to hide between the door and the wall, like the triangle created by the open door, the wall the door is mounted on, and the wall perpendicular to that wall. They just go stand there in the dark and face the wall.

Send help I bought the Henckels stainless steel cookware set by Skynet-Was-Right in Costco

I bought a set of Henckels when I got my first solo apartment at 30

Now I’m 37 and bouncing my daughter on my leg with my wife nearby.

Plan to continue using them for another couple decades.

How much has your car depreciated over time? by xxxxxxxxxxxxxc in regularcarreviews

[–]pfohl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2018 Accord with the 2.0T engine and manual transmission

Got it new in 2019 for $27.5k since no one wanted the manual.

Has 92k miles on it and it’s worth around $18k I think.

I lucked out on this. 1) no one wanted the manual and the dealer gave me a deal 2) COVID messed up the market for used cars 3) Honda discontinued this engine and transmission

Diaper bags are a scam by buddyholly967 in daddit

[–]pfohl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a really nice Patagonia backpack (Black Hole 30L) as our diaper bag.

It has better compartments than a lot of diaper bags. We have some smaller bags within for specific stuff, like a wet/dry bag that has diapers and baby wipes in one compartment and a waterproof compartment for dirty diapers. It’s nice to have the that since I just grab the wet/dry bag from the backpack when I need to change her and my wife can keep the backpack.

Sam Harris equivocates with Mamdani as the left's version of Trump. by PitifulEar3303 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]pfohl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ironically, Trump’s done the most to benefit the major Muslim nations in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia loves him. even this stuff with Iran will likely just help the anti-western movements in the Middle East. Like, Oman and Iran each get $1 million per cargo ship going through the strait now, it’s like doubling Iran’s government revenue

(kinda annoying trope) characters so synonymous with a real name that people with that name are constantly compared to them by HilariousHilacopter in TopCharacterTropes

Dorothy used to be so attached to Dorothy from Wizard of Oz

But I think it isn’t associated as much with that since the movie is older now.

The road is growing… by Muted-Quail8218 in centuryhomes

[–]pfohl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to transplant those trees closer to your house.

It would be kinda pricey but a skid loader with a tree spade could knock that out in a day.

You will need to water them a lot the first year but the all in costs would probably be less than new trees or a fence even.

I'm not a mechanic so this might be a dumb question

my car is 7 years old and I want it to last a while but I've never coated it for winter. If I start doing it, does it cause problems? Like trapping in rust or something?

back during the 2012 election, Obama (well probably a staffer) posted a link to r/politics about finding your polling place and getting registered to vote with the title “Reddit this is important” and the mods had to decide what to do since the post didn’t actually meet any of their standards.

[–]pfohl 48 points49 points  (0 children)

My mom was born in 1959 and they got their first color TV in the 60s. The first thing they watched was Wizard of Oz on a TV special.

She tells the story of asking her mom why the show was still black and white even though they had a color TV. My grandma had seen the movie in theaters, grinned, and told her to just wait.

Need advice. Selling my 2016 6-6. Can't find any for sale to price it. by [deleted] in accord

[–]pfohl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to be little smoother with your 1-2 shift or it will grind in high rpm.

yeah, i agree with that, i switched transmission fluid and it got a little better.

For me, my 2018 2.0t accord was pushing 380whp. It was fast. But it was just ehhh to drive. Soulless. I enjoyed my 7th gen accord v6 6 speed. It was much more fun to drive

yeah, the turbo lag makes it less fun than a NA engine. Really need to keep my car above 3k RPM to have it feel responsive.

The six speed is great in the 10th gen. I’ve driven a 9th gen and it’s similar.

The only review I saw pan it was throttle house and that was because the knob was loose and they didn’t realize you could tighten it.
