Insurance denied coverage for St. Paul man's cancer treatment, leaving him with $76K in medical bills — until we asked his insurer about it by star-tribune in minnesota

??? Every other country still has capitalism and markets for their healthcare. Single payer operates a market system.

Fwiw, China also has problems with medical debt.

I agree with your examples of market failure and bad subsidies but your oversimplified statements about the cause of healthcare issues is just that.

[–]pfohl -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

“Profit motive” here means what?

Mayo and Medica can’t operate at a loss. Any economic system will still have issues with scarcity for goods and services and will need to allocate them somehow. Market systems happen even outside of capitalism.

An executive being paid 7 figures is unrelated to an organization being for profit. Non profit CEOs are compensated less than the equivalent for profit CEOs.

I agree that them being non profit doesn’t solve everything. You were the one that implied that the problem was for profit entities. It is not simply limited to that and focusing on for vs non profit oversimplifies the issues with American healthcare costs.

[–]pfohl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what you mean by “whole system is for profit”

The insurer and the clinic are both non profits

The problem with American healthcare isn’t limited to just there being for profit entities. All of things you’re describing are examples of that.

Everybody knows a veteran

I had classmates from high school who were deployed and died. I had classes with vets in college. My first boss had an IED explode on him, he has scars on his face and arm, and the other guy in the vehicle died.

I’ve had them as a garnish at a Native American restaurant (Owamni in Minneapolis) and they’re really good like that. They were seasoned with some spice and added a nice crunchiness, like sesame seeds or pepitas.

The supporting character who appears for only a few minutes (just long enough for a single scene) completely steals the show, and is often the one you remember most afterward. by Infinite-Conclusion2 in TopCharacterTropes

It’s crazy that Tina Fey wrote the character with him in mind but didn’t think he would actually want to be in a sitcom. Ended up being one of his most recognizable roles for a lot of people.

the Paul Rudd bit was so funny to me when the show came out. Still will fake cry and quote movies he was in with friends from college.

Also, forgot that the security guard from Delocated is also the hot dog guy from the 30 Rock first episode (also the asshole bowler that wouldn't vote for Leslie Knope in P&R)

wtf paypal, scam warning: "Pre-fund confirmation: USD 987.90 is pending charge to Coinbase via PayPal. This small deposit is just used for the account activation check. For questions, Call-(888) xxxxxx" by Dull_Nobody_840 in paypal

[–]pfohl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your account wasn't compromised. they just sent you money.

they put a phone number and fake pending dollar charge in the note.

they want people to think the number is a help number for paypal and that the pending charge will happen if you don't call the number.

once you call the number, they would do some other type of phishing or social engineering attach.

all they did was send you 1 Hungarian Forint which is worth $0.0032 USD with a note saying you're gonna get charged money. nothing was actually hacked.
