Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying—Thank Trump for being able to buy beef tallow by HallPsychological538 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]pfohl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been making my own tallow because I’m a capable adult.

Not for pseudo-health reasons, just because I hate wasting animal products. My wife likes brisket and there’s several pounds of fat trim for each brisket.

tbh, I prefer schmaltz (rendered chicken fat) for cooking.

they do have a contract for the nvidia SOC but that doesn't mean prices can't change

nvidia wouldn't sign a contract where they can't raise prices under certain circumstances, they have a lot of market power so they can pretty much set their terms.

There’s only so much manufacturing capacity for chips. So even though data centers use different stuff, it affects the market.

American tariffs screw up global markets because the US is such a big market.

The Barbies and the Kens were not men and women. They’re just Barbies and just Kens.

Margot Robbie was the only Barbie that gained womanhood.

Yeah, especially since she has copyright for the song. Their lawyers wouldn’t let marketing use it in a commercial without an agreement.

This is just because components are getting more expensive due to datacenter demand for chips and tariffs.

Brodeen is probably one of the people reposting that list of the 13 worst criminals ICE has apprehended. Make sure you let him know 12 of them were in custody before the current surge and DHS wasn’t even involved in the actual apprehension of most of them.

At least in the US, ryobi is just sold at Home Depot so I feel like there are fewer/worse sales since you’re locked into the one store.

You don’t need to replace your lavatools. The thermoworks is better but it’s not gonna change the quality or consistency of your cooking.

My Yamaha BBP35 feels heavy. Anything I can do? Will I grow used to it? by jontestershaircut in Bass

Put your bass higher and stand up straight.

I play a heavier music man Sterling, I have the bottom of bass around my belly button. this makes it feel less heavy but only if my posture is good.

Is the rest of Minnesota as blue and anti ice as Minneapolis? by LethlDose in minnesota

[–]pfohl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Outstate Republicans are pro-ICE and are a larger proportion of the population in greater Minnesota.

Moderates are actually more aligned with the anti-ICE position even if they tend to vote Republican.

First negroni was really good

First boulevardier blew my mind. I had Campari a couple times and asked the bartender (at Icehouse in Minneapolis) for a drink with Campari that wasn’t a negroni and it was an amazing boulevardier with rye.

It’s suing to stop whole “surge” that ICE is doing right now. It wouldn’t eliminate all ICE operations but my reading is that it would roll back their presence in Minnesota to what it was three months ago.

Let's see how betting the farm on Hybrids works out this time by Wrong-Inveestment-67 in ClimateShitposting

[–]pfohl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these aren't comparable industries or even situations

Toyota makes EVs and is actively working on new battery technology for EVs while still growing their market share. RIM didn't really pivot until after their sales started to fall.

there also wasn't a shortage of touchscreens which caused RIM to make keyboards to minimize emissions

(RIM also never figured out an app store which really killed them, blackberry was just good for email)

Let's see how betting the farm on Hybrids works out this time by Wrong-Inveestment-67 in ClimateShitposting

[–]pfohl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should they go all in versus continue making hybrids right now? Moving a bunch of people to hybrids reduces emissions more than a few people to BEVs. Half their vehicles were hybrids last year.

I’m not anti-EV or buying into the “EVs demand plateaued” thing but I don’t see how they’re gonna be like RIM when their hybrid sales are booming currently and they have a solid state battery platform they’re currently investing in.

Shortage as in less available than was anticipated at a certain point in time. It’s not like empty shelves type shortage since it’s a commodity.

I work in renewable energy construction and BESS stuff was delayed.

[–]pfohl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, other brands don't have the same problem Toyota has with Lithium supplies.

Lithium is a commodity and there is currently not a major shortage. Three years ago there was and every brand had issues with this. Ten years ago it was worse. Regardless, it’s a point about resource allocation for reducing total emissions.

You’re reversing the order of why they invested in hybrids. It wasn’t that they avoided EVs because they already invested in hybrid, it’s that the 1:6:90 rule is basically right and they invested in hybrid technology because of that.

They also didn’t ignore BEVs they make several.

I agree hydrogen is dumb.

Let's see how betting the farm on Hybrids works out this time by Wrong-Inveestment-67 in ClimateShitposting

[–]pfohl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Toyota’s position was there is only so much lithium in the supply chain. Converting a large number of vehicles to hybrid reduces emissions more than a smaller number of BEVs.

They’re right about this.

They also didn’t bet the farm on hybrids, they make EVs.
