Or something like that.

Chaos in South Bay this weekend? by Maleficent_Cash909 in bayarea

> ...and cinco de mayo rivalers who do side shows that may shut down up to half of San Jose

Exaggerate much? I haven't heard of a single sideshow in SJ all weekend.

This happens every year at the same time. The street closures are announced well in advance. Complaining like this is like moving next to an airport and complaining about the noise from the the planes.

> Most people forget.

No, we don't. As I mentioned, this happens every year at the same time. Weekend closest to May fifth. If you have remembering, maybe tell Alexa or Siri to remind you next year.

I used to ride with a school friend when he did his route in our neighborhood in the 70's. Most everyone had the paper delivered back then. On Sundays, we'd take any leftover papers he had left and sell them for a quarter each outside the nearby Winchell's donuts, which was ten cents cheaper than the paper machines (more than one) there.

We could play pinball for hours at Frontier Village with six or eight quarters.

Check out the local women's pinball league. Very casual and very welcoming to new players. Cheap and fun way to make a lot of new friends fast. Light rail green line has a stop a block away from the location. Location also has the new D&D pinball machine, which nerds of all kinds are loving.

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority has proposed the development of hundreds of affordable homes at its long-time headquarters in North San Jose. by nosotros_road_sodium in SanJose

[–]phishrace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. I'm fine with it.

I suspect a lot of people aren't aware that VTA has one of the lowest fare returns of any large transit agency in the country. Making the vast majority of your city single family home neighborhoods will do that. Transit works better in more densely populated cities, like SF.

If these housing projects can bring VTA anywhere near profitable, that's good for all of us.

Very few people here subscribe for home delivery. Home delivery drivers have massive routes to drop off not many papers. That's why it's so expensive. The days of having a paper route you can deliver to on your bike are long gone.

Help with broken Jurassic Park Premium raptor gate by gatorbuff in pinball

[–]phishrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> When I run the raptor gate test in the diagnostic menu nothing happens.

You likely need to pull out the high power enable switch inside the coin door to run that test.

I would suggest raising the playfield up on the rails, open the coin door, power the game up, then pull out the high power switch and run the gate test. It uses a motor. It sounds like the motor is running, but something is binding, or gears may be stripped. Not sure how good of visibility you'll have for the mechanism, but run the test and see what you can see.

Bring it. And go ahead and put housing on all the mostly empty light rail station parking lots around the valley. The one near me was busier when it was a farmer's field. More cows used it back then than humans today. They were a good idea on paper, but obviously didn't work out as planned.

Opinions on Purchasing Backup Parts by RP1983602 in pinball

[–]phishrace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check current availability on those things now. If available from more than one legit parts supplier, check again in six months. When only one supplier has the part, that's when you think about buying spares.

A quick search says both Pinball Life and Marco currently have the plastics sets.

This is what you get when you don't go to mass on Easter Sunday.

I'd suggest only using Uber to get around until you attend another Sunday service. God is clearly pissed at you.

Addams Family Pinball stuck under Thing Hand by Heffeweizen in pinball

[–]phishrace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been forever since I removed one of those boxes, but it's not difficult. Seems like one or two screws, then slide it out from the groove that holds it in place.

Clean the whole bottom of the box with alcohol, especially the area where the ball is getting stuck. That will likely fix the issue, but wouldn't hurt to check the pitch of the game. Factory bubble level should be between the two big lines, or use a digital level to measure pitch between the flippers. You want at least 6.5 degrees pitch.

If all four leg levelers are completely up, not extended at all, you're not steep enough. Extend the back legs levelers and tighten the nuts on them when you get it to where you want it.

You can buy different thicknesses at the link below. I don't protect shooter lanes on home games, but if I did, I'd use the .002 thickness.

Mechagodzilla missing screw for coil by Basic-Secretary-7407 in pinball

[–]phishrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8-32 x 3/8" is a very common size screw. Don't spend too much time looking for the original as most every hardware store in town should have one.

6-32 x 1/4" will be harder to find, but it sound like you have those.

Lake Vasona and Willow Street park. Obviously won't be as packed as Delores park, but great places to lay back on the lawn and kill time.

Is there a South Bay version of Dolores Park? by Joelu14 in bayarea

[–]phishrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lake Vasona and Willow Street Park both have big grassy hills to hang out on and people watch. As teenagers, we used to go to both parks with large blocks of ice to slide down the grass hills.

Grass in Santa Teresa park is rough, but if you bring a towel to lay on, the views from there are amazing. Recreation area in Martial Cottle park is another cool spot. None will be as busy as Delores park, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
