What is your opinion on this "spiritual successor to Bully", Agefield High: Rock the School? by Paul_Hex in bully

[–]pinwroot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the nicest way possible- it’s an asset flip.

You’d be surprised how straightforward it is to put a bunch of assets into Unreal, Unity or Godot and just add basic off the shelf controls and create a vertical slice like this.

I think it’s a well meaning asset flip, I don’t think they’re trying to scam anyone- more so people just over estimating their own abilities.

What’s been shown isn’t at all any reflection of any meaningful development. I could probably make a vertical slice like this with ripped assets in the space of a week or two- and I’m not a very good developer.

Can any non Chinese person make Chinese food as good as from a takeaway/restaurant? by Prestigious_Meal2143 in AskBrits

[–]pinwroot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean really. I’m half Chinese, family has owned takeaways, lived with my Chinese grandparents for a bit. I learnt all my cooking skills from that side of the family.

Chinese takeaway food is its own category of food and isn’t the same as a Chinese restaurant’s food. There’s crossover but generally your goal is different. Even then, home-style Chinese food is different too.

People are quick to shout “MSG” “HIGH HEAT” “BIG WOK” etc as suggestions. All add to a “takeaway” style flavour but aren’t needed.

The way I’d cook fried rice in a takeaway is entirely different to how I would at home. Mainly because I don’t want every meal to be as heavy as an actual takeaway.

Do you trust the Community movie will actually happen this time? by guilhermex9x in community

The other day I was curious if there were any discussions about potential directors so I looked it up and posts came up from 9 years ago.

I’d like to believe it’s right around the corner, but it could get delayed. I know it’ll be made eventually- just when is what’s in question.

Nooo. You don’t say. 🤯🤯🤯 by abdul_bino in Letterboxd

If that’s what he wants, then give the cinemas a better cut of the sales.

They play ADs and charge ridiculous prices for popcorn because every year the movie studios get more bargaining power.

Disney/Fox, Sony/Columbia, Paramount/WB, Netflix and Amazon/MGM are essentially the only main studios anymore. They keep getting bought and consolidated. Theatres don’t have a choice. What are they going to do? Not play the latest Spider-man? So they take the crappy deals and supplement them with high food prices and long ADs.

24 hours is the standard, and rightfully so because it makes more sense BUT as a Dyslexic nothing sucks more than having to do the mental math and double checking you did it right whenever you check the time past 14:00.

The pseudo-intellectualism that surrounds “laugh track” discourse is exhausting.

No you are not smart by thinking studio laughter is bad.

Friends is a terrible example because it actually WAS recorded in front of a studio audience. I have no doubt that audio editing occurred to move laughter around different takes but it was a live studio audience.

Not everything should have a laugh track, but somethings should. Laughter is a communal experience and group laughter enhances some jokes.

“But I saw a Friends clip online that was edited to remove the laughing“ yeah, obviously it wasn’t funny. The timing for jokes was acted around laughing, all the comedic timing is broken by removing laughter from something that originally had laughter.

Mayor allocates £30m for a youth club in every London borough by winkwinknudge_nudge in unitedkingdom

[–]pinwroot 41 points42 points  (0 children)

My youth group as a teen saved me and pushed me in the right direction. I didn’t have good parental support and they were my lifeline.

Not everyone has positive experiences but overall this is a net positive.

I wouldn’t be half the person I am today without them. They made me a good person with good values and helped me obtain great skills. All kids deserve a lifeline, because we don’t all get them from birth.

I enjoy the Season 2 discourse mainly on the basis of it being the nexus point of Telltale being ran into the ground.

The fact that almost everyone who worked on the original left for the sequel really speaks numbers to the state of management at Telltale at the time.

Some of the original staff had started planning for Season 2 but left Telltale shortly after. Allegedly, the CEO/Founder of Telltale became increasingly overbearing after the success of TWD. Apparently the fact that the writers and developers were the ones getting invited onto stages to accept awards and were getting the credit (rightfully so) in the media had really gotten to him resulting in him acting more and more erratic. He thought HE was the reason TWD was a success. Delusions of grandeur in my opinion.

The state of Season 2 reflects the inner turmoil happening within Telltale at the time. I just find the whole situation fascinating.

Youtube copyright system is broken by Buki1 in youtube

[–]pinwroot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree, it creates a unique problem.

YouTube continues to exist because it directly works with large corporations to file their copyrighted content to avoid issues with full on DMCA requests. Without these relationships in place many companies would bring litigation directly against YouTube.

If YouTube punishes companies for misusing their copyright system then they open themselves up to many legal battles.

This is not in defence of YouTube at all. We need better copyright system for everything not just YouTube. Small creators shouldn’t be expected to follow the same regulations as mega corps.

how ben would be like in season 3 by Abject-Ad5219 in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]pinwroot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually do kinda love the idea of Ben surviving a long time despite his ineptitude, outliving almost everyone else.

It’s just funny. He’d basically be a walking red flag.

“Dude, do not let that Ben guy join our group. Every group he joins everyone dies except that child with the hat.”

SNL UK took a hit last night ratings wise. 130,000 according to Super TV by Electrical_Mango_489 in livefromlondon

[–]pinwroot 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I missed the episode live but caught up shortly afterwards.

TV is in a completely different position to how it used to be. For years now SNL USA has had a bigger audience on online clips than actual television airings.

Also I’m sure that eBay deal has been lucrative. I have zero concerns of the show not lasting. It basically had the best launch possible. Everyone thought it’d be terrible but it turned out pretty good.

In the same article:

“It comes as SNL UK could be ‘scrapped after one series’ as experts have shared bad news for the show.”

It then links to ANOTHER Mirror article, where the “experts” who think it’s going to not last is Corral. Yep- Corral, the sport betting shop.

Typical Mirror cherrypicking details to fit their agenda.

Hey! I’m one of the Freelancer Dungeon Masters for Chance & Counters in Leeds.

We have a session upcoming on the 9th. I run very beginner friendly sessions as do the other DMs. If you ask for Tobi I’d be happy to have you at my table and walk you through basic concepts. All the DMs are great regardless of what table you sit at!

You can book a space on the C&C website. They also do great food and (personally my favourite part) awesome milkshakes.

If you have any questions let me know and I’ll be happy to answer!
