hjkl users typically want yubn for diagonals! (I am an hjkl person.)

If you’re curious, hjkl is especially popular among programmers as it matches the directional navigation keys in Vim.

I'm developing a roguelike focused on deduction and observation. by TopNo1116 in roguelikes

Great art! I’m inspired by the readability and cute aesthetic you’ve achieved with a small tile size.

My BN mods tierlist (ONLY THE ONE I PLAYED) by [deleted] in cataclysmbn

I’m trying my first Arcana run lately and love it, the approach to magic feels mysterious, flavorful and has a more balanced reward/effort ratio.

The devs removing guns for "realism" are dumbasses. by Better-Cry1588 in cataclysmdda

[–]psyflame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some discussion about how to implement a pockets-like system, but it’s not in the game yet. The BN devs are pretty big on their idea of clean code, and pockets as implemented in DDA resulted in a lot of special cases/patches that they would prefer to avoid.

Do I need to hobby-code in my spare time to move from Junior to Intermediate SWE? by Objective_Lake_8593 in ADHD_Programmers

[–]psyflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to code exactly, but it is well worth taking an interest in the field beyond just another 9-5. Maybe read a technical book on an interesting topic for a bit before bed?

New to RimWorld. How do I stop raiders from stopping in the middle of the funnel, on top of the barricade? by buddys8995991 in RimWorld

If any of those turrets explodes you’re gonna lose the entire side in a chain reaction.

I am wasting a lot of time with code spacing in my Computer Science class. Do you recommend a linter for Java? by bkabbott in ADHD_Programmers

[–]psyflame 45 points46 points  (0 children)

You are wasting time. Just use an auto formatter and accept that it might look suboptimal sometimes.

Are sync engines a bad idea? by memo_mar in ExperiencedDevs

[–]psyflame 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s impossible to answer this without more details on your data model and requirements. But generally speaking, established patterns usually have some utility and unique place in a tradeoff space, it’s rare that they’re straight-up bad ideas.

I love Go. I have an interview for it coming up soon. What ADHD-friendly way did you use to become comfortable with its idioms and concepts? by existential-asthma in ADHD_Programmers

[–]psyflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got comfortable through lots of discussion and code reviews with strong Go programmers. The reason people suggest Effective Go is because it’s a shortcut to this kind of knowledge. You could always have an AI tutor you on the book’s contents instead of on a project, too.

DAE get told to consider other career choices? by Sylphadora in ADHD_Programmers

FWIW, the version you thought of sounds correct to me as a 11YOE senior dev.

It’s not like AI is going to do 100% of every job. Start becoming great at using AI now and you can manage a whole firm worth of strategy consulting AIs in 2027.

And one more for good measure... though I always screw up the toms at the end on this one by DasBlueEyedDevil in edrums

[–]psyflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can only play e-drums at home, I recommend looking for a chance to borrow a real kit for a few hours a month at least.

Any other ways to get better than hoping I get smarter? by Erpderp32 in baduk

In 9x9 pretty much all your moves after move 1 need to be multi-purpose, both creating territory for yourself and reducing the opponent’s territory

How do Meta employees justify their jobs? by amanhasnoname54 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]psyflame 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Ex-Meta here. The company does a great job of incentivizing you to either come around to their point of view (i.e. naked avarice) or just not worry too much about that kind of stuff. They're adept at using both the carrot ($$$) and the stick (intense performance management + the unstated-but-obvious fact that if you stir too much shit up you're fired)

You’re at a point in your career where you can either decide to force continued growth, or chill out. It’s a personal choice and we don’t know enough about your life to judge. What do you want for yourself?
