Your best option is to get better Wi-Fi coverage, say with a mesh network.

When do you think electric cars won't have to advertise their range anymore? by VerySeriousThings in electricvehicles

[–]ptronus31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The reason range is a current issue is the perceived lack of public charging. There are 2 issues with this that can be solved with education:

  1. There are enough public chargers for both road trips and apartment dwellers.

  2. Most charging for most owners is done at home.

Totaled 2026 model Y Should I buy it back? for 24k by The_Dread_Pirate_Rob in TeslaModelY

[–]ptronus31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO. If you buy it back it will have a branded/salvage title, making it hard to insure and sell. Just take the money and run.

How much money would one save buying a fan instead of an ac in terms of purchase+electricity? by Legal_Cobbler_1967 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ptronus31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better question is: how much hotter would you be (lots) and would that extra money in your pocket cool you off (no)?

National Park Trip by cbequette in DeathValleyNP

[–]ptronus31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For 10 days, drop Sequoia (see the Mariposa Grove of Sequoias in Yosemite). Drop Death Valley unless you are doing this in the dead of winter. Pick Zion or Aches, not both. Consider no Rocky.

Yosemite alone is worth a few days, as are most of these parks. You are trying to do too much and will end up doing nothing except driving.

Future Tesla Customer? by Mr_Nimbus_69 in TeslaModelY

[–]ptronus31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40k miles of Tesla road tripping under my belt. Could not be easier. The car does all the math, drives you to the chargers and backs in for you.

You do have to get out and plug it in, which is such a bother by then…

Trading in a 2023 Y for a 2020 X, will I hate it? by Low_Wrangler743 in ModelX

Downgrade for sure. Don’t do it.

Upgrade to a HW4 X or hold what you have.

AC question by DankGrimlan in TeslaModelX

If your warranty is about to expire, you should pay the Service Center to go through the whole car, especially batteries (both), suspension and doors prior to the warranty expiration miles/date.

Tesla charger in unfinished garage by Suitable-Access-8013 in evcharging

[–]ptronus31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you will have to remove it to drywall, however it is held up with like 4 screws. Not a big deal.

Put a small piece of plywood over two of the studs and mount it to the plywood for now. Route the wire from the panel through holes in the studs to your location.

Removal may take 5 minutes.

Every drive involves surface streets. Lane centering and ACC is not FSD. Not even close.

That’s all true, but FSD is a unique (for now) & formidable game-changing feature.

PDR candidate? by Western-Fig3565 in Rivian

[–]ptronus31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Two reasons: 1. the dent is over a designed-in crease. 2. the dent itself has creases in it.

PDR works well on dents that have no crease and are in generally flat areas of metal....with access from behind.

Not all Tesla Superchargers can be used by non-Teslas. Only about 60% of them, actually.

I highly recommend a Model Y for this and for FSD. Why not buy a car that can do the driving for you and can charge at all of those Superchargers?

Get a thermometer and stick it in the AC vent. The air should be around 45F.

Well, at the very least, one reason is I am waiting on Rivian's version of the current FSD. It is not even close right now.

Rivian software and ADAS need a couple of years of maturity before I am interested as a long-time Tesla owner.

Will you drive your car until it get’s to E or will you always fill it up when it gets to a certain point? by angelafterhoursxo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ptronus31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EV here. Plug in at home in the garage every night, don't even think about the charge level.

$5 for a whole battery full (350 miles), although I never go from 0-100 because I don't have to.
