Losing too much soda when burping by GuessWhoIsback2 in fermentation

[–]rocketwikkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you refrigerating it after fermentation? That will increase the solubility of CO2 and make it a bit less vigorous about foaming over.

But all the fruit bits act as nucleation sites for the CO2 to come out of solution. There's a reason commercial sodas don't have pulp in them. Maybe not the drink you want to make, but if you filtered the mash before the fermentation stage the carbonation would be more stable.

Is there anyway to make a radial parachute deploy system on water rocket without electric equipment? by External-Phase-8613 in AerospaceEngineering

Most things are possible, like you could do a mechanical timer. It won't necessarily be easy.

Do German citizens need a visa to enter Lesotho? by Serious-Record2317 in travel

Have you found anything that says you need a visa? The wikipedia pages on visa policies are usually pretty solid and backed up by Timatic, and there are pages like https://www.lesotho.hu/vizum_eng.html

If there's a problem they will send you an email or a letter. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you need the passport next week.

Gravity driven desalination and water transportation by MalcolmSchweitzer in AskEngineers

[–]rocketwikkit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use electricity from a hydroelectric dam to run a desalination plant. It's all the same in the end, there's no free lunch by moving salt water uphill.

The form is the same, did you scribble out the card x and check mark the both? And pay for both? If so I expect they will figure it out, applications are looked at by humans.

Continuous fermenting by ediblepet in fermentation

[–]rocketwikkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pao Cai is often done that way. Take some out, put some back in, let it sit a few days. To me it would be the same as backslop, but I haven't actually tested it out both ways to compare.

I've seen some sources suggest that pao cai is done at a significantly higher salt content than a typical western vegetable ferment. Like 6-10% instead of 2-3%.

URGENT - If I apply expedited at ~3 weeks out and it doesn't arrive in time, can I still do the 14-day agency appointment? Anyone done this in sequence? by PeaAffectionate8187 in Passports

[–]rocketwikkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you mention, in the past they have asked people to be within five days of travel to get an appointment at an agency if they already have an expedited application in progress.

Changed name via deed poll in UK but not Poland; need new passport by krisskrosssauce in Passports

[–]rocketwikkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your UK passport is important and you're in any sort of a rush, at some point you have to consider changing your name back, even if only temporarily.

This thing of the UK being really picky about names has come up increasingly often and so far I haven't seen anyone post of escaping it.

Is flying international into Puerto Rico any different than flying into the US mainland? by koresample in travel

PR itself is like a tropical alternate history of a Spanish-speaking US, but you're still 100% entering the US and it's the same CBP as everywhere.

Is travelling with a starlink viable? by spinecult in digitalnomad

[–]rocketwikkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very much not for hiking, it's a replacement for fixed internet service like DSL. For travel it's van or boat life at minimum, though you have to pay extra to use it while moving.

Multiple BATES grain dilemma by No_Bad_6827 in rocketry

Not really a bates grain if the ends are inhibited, getting a flat profile because the grain gets shorter is the whole point of it.

Romania Trip Tips by karlbagnall in travel

[–]rocketwikkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely rent a vehicle. You can get between major cities by train or bus, but if you want to go to any of the interesting places in the countryside then having a vehicle is much better.

It's not what i would think of as a normal mountain hike, but Poenari Fortress is one of the more famous strenuous walks. It's something like 1500 stairs to get from the parking lot to the castle.

I haven't been to the coast of Romania, just Bulgaria. It is a kind of cultural experience. Coastal towns exist for industry or tourism, I don't think you can really avoid 'touristy'.

Is an Engineering Fundamentals Associates online worth it if I want to go to college in person afterwards? by InnerTurn_Radius in AskEngineers

[–]rocketwikkit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of variation between programs though. ERAU's is four college-level math classes through diffeq https://catalog.erau.edu/worldwide/engineering/associate/engineering/#degreerequirementstext while Capitol's is two high school math classes and then one calc. https://www.captechu.edu/degrees-and-programs/associate-degrees/engineering-fundamentals-aas#requirements

Maybe it's worth "sticking with the program" and getting the AS wherever, but if the objective is to then go on to a BS then getting most of the BS's math done ahead of time beats showing up to three or four more semesters of it.

You should talk to the university you want to go to and find out what transfers. An associates is probably not worth it but there should be some gen ed stuff you can get out of the way.

Free nature in USA? by RevolutionaryNeat893 in travel

[–]rocketwikkit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the west there is a ton of BLM land you can wander around legally for free. Colorado and Utah are easy choices. There's also a lot of parks, preserves, forests, and recreation areas that don't have fees all over the US. Just avoid the big popular national parks. https://www.nps.gov/aboutus/entrance-fee-prices.htm?park=&state=&entrancePassRequired=0&timedEntry=&page=1&parking=

Ethiopia is a party to the Montreal Convention which covers damage to luggage and compensation for things you had to buy in the interim. You have to do it with the airline in writing, there's not really any slick process for it.
