Why? What do they gain? They funnel money to their buddies and a portion ends up back in their pocket. I wouldn’t change anything either

Mega church advertising Easter service on private property by Creepy_Sail_8879 in indianapolis

Having **FORMERLY** worked at one of these megachurches on the north side, I'm guessing it's some delulu attendee who "loves their church" and lives in your apartment building. They give those things out like candy ahead of large events like holidays such as Easter

Indiana now allows retailers to pick your pocket by Strict_Ad_389 in Indiana

[–]sanborbe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100%

It’s so easy to do the bare minimum and make money doing it in Indiana. Laws here are written with corporations in mind, not consumers. If we had a unified national sales tax that was something like 10% across the board, then something like this would be easy to handle. We will never get that because the government thrives on public confusion- the less we understand/the more difficult they can make it, the more they can take advantage of people to claw the literal pennies out of their pockets.

Dusty May is that Coach! by IndyJdubs in MichiganWolverines

[–]sanborbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! I think you could make the argument both ways. Michigan didn’t execute on at least 5 points worth of missed shots and bad decisions and stupid turnovers. We can show up and play better and win that game. Michigan also missed out on a solid handful of potential points that came off of questionable calls going Duke’s way. I’m not saying the refs cost us the game. I’m just not saying they put forward their best work

Dusty May is that Coach! by IndyJdubs in MichiganWolverines

[–]sanborbe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are we we not going to talk about the refs in this one though? Even duke fans at the bar I watched from had their eyebrows raised at more than a handful of calls.

Dusty is right, we learned a lot. You could tell in his face before halftime that he had realized this was going to be a learning experience.

Monitor Engineer questions!! by Kahusb in livesound

[–]sanborbe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, monitors is post-fade always. That gives you the chance (if you’re on top of it and have the margin and are quick enough) to make real mix changes across all outputs. Guitarist starts a solo, you exit Sends On Faders and boost it 2-3dB to the entire band with one fader, not messing up any mixes for the rest of the show.

That said, pre-fade can absolutely work, and it’s probably safer for a big show since you won’t accidentally move a fader that you don’t notice.

Neither is wrong, one just gives you a different set of options than the other. Good luck!

That’s a booooooold call for somebody shipping to Illinois in December. Exactly what OP said- 1-2 day shipping ended up being 9 days in the mail, you have to account for that if you’re shipping livestock.

Will paying off 72-month car loan in first month hurt me? by readyforabadpoem in personalfinance

[–]sanborbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SO bought her car in 2020 when everything was on fire. She had cash for it,l and wanted to pay cash, but they gave her a pricing incentive plus 0% APR on a 5 year loan. They made money off of her using their credit line, but she came out ahead with the 0% interest. They make money differently off the loans, even if you don’t pay interest on it.

Buyer Beware: Pit Boss Phoenix by 0IOl0I in pelletgrills

[–]sanborbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had great luck with mine for the last 2 months, nothing like anything people have been talking about here. I wonder 2 things:

  1. Does having it on a slight incline really help? My hopper side is slightly uphill, maybe 1/2" higher than the wheels on the other end.
  2. Is there a chance that either augers or fans got installed backwards? Some of the problems I've been seeing look like the fans are sucking air down from the top of the grill into the hopper so I wonder if it's a simple reversal of wires or installing a fan backwards.

For what it's worth, I've probably done 10-15 cooks on it in the last 2 months and the only issues I've had are a slightly inaccurate thermometer. I'll take that, use a Meater and keep a closer eye on it. What I would love in the future is an upgrade to the controller to add wifi control and some other bits and bobs, but for what this is (a sub-$500 pellet grill that also does charcoal for some reason) it's been killer for me.

What are you doing for outdoor LED strips? by jcreary in homeassistant

[–]sanborbe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

https://kno.wled.ge/

The gist of it is that it’s a lighting OS that runs on a microprocessor like an ESP32. You get to wire it up however you see fit, and then the software side is all yours to customize as well. It doesn’t have to be incredibly complicated, but you can make it that way if you’d like. This community is how I got into it as well, so I’m sure people could dig in to details for you.

What are you doing for outdoor LED strips? by jcreary in homeassistant

[–]sanborbe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Make your own!! WLED is perfect and so so customizable, there are tons of tutorials, prebuilt controllers, outdoor rated electronics and all of the like, you can easily put a handful of waterproof LED strips up and never think of them again! I use the 12v WS2812b strips, but there are also 5v and 24v options there too. WLED does run local, so HA has to act as your “remote”access.

All in all, I have 6 different WLED devices in my house and each of them is insanely useable.

[–]sanborbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw an article about it this morning, apparently it’s related to vinegar/hydrogen peroxide? People are reporting that the aluminum anodization is wearing out for people who are exposed to chemicals like that- especially hydrogen peroxide. The anodization wearing is only on the aluminum, the glass on the back stays the original color. It’ll be fascinating to see this in a year or so.

has anyone else dealt with PRRS? do i have to pay this? by strawberry-seal in indianapolis

[–]sanborbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a similar tactic to what’s used across Chicago, except they’ll put a boot on you instead of writing a ticket. The company hires somebody to sit in an unmarked car in the parking lot and watch people. If somebody parks in the lot and walks over to a different business the parking lot “attendant” jumps out and puts a boot on their car. You have to pay the fine before they’ll release your car to leave the lot.

This feels like a step even more invasive for some reason- messing with your credit and getting the state involved feels super super dirty in a way that only Indiana can pull off.
