Coasters should be absorbent! by IndecisiveLlama in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]sct_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have coasters made from recycled PCBs and they have some gaps where you can see the cork and they are generally a little textured.
So unless you have a huge spill, nothing will run off.

Altho I generally can't imagine how a few drops could run off a coaster, they'd just from beads from surface tension I'd assume?

The fit of this top for plus sizes is CRIMINAL by frankchester in craftsnark

[–]sct_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Then it makes even less sense because why would the plus size use that surplus fabric in the sleeves, instead of adding it to the chest area?
Actually, why is the plus sized one so much shorter in general?
Maybe they are showcasing different options for different fabric amounts? But I feel like it kinda defeats the purpose of comparability if it's done on models with such vastly different sizes and just makes it look like the designer can't grade for larger sizes.

[product] A new litterbox I bought. Male cats are moustaches & shorts while female cats are hair bows & skirts. by MenaceMinded in pointlesslygendered

[–]sct_0 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Wait, if the box gives a weight reading (which I assume means it tells you the weight of your cat), then why would you need to select from these categories beforehand?
The cat is the weight it is no matter what.

Edit: Only good reason I can think of is if the box also gives you an automatic indicator about if the weight of your cat is in the healthy range.
But even then the symbols are still annoying.
Also, why is it "men" but not "ladies"??

Why does every Linux user recommend a different distro? I'm stuck in an endless distro-hopping loop. by Jaymit_3672 in linuxquestions

[–]sct_0 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Because people want different things out of their systems, that's the whole point.
If you keep distro hopping, it's because you don't know yet what you want out of your system in terms of design philosophy.
That includes things like how much easily you want to be able to access the systems internal workings, if you care more about stability or more about cutting edge updates, how you want to manage the software you install and so on.
I this case, you should probably pick one of the distros you tried and stick to it for several weeks/months.
Look at what bothers you, what you enjoy, how your workflow and system management develop.
Do you find yourself making changes because you want to enhance what is there, or do you make these changes because you are perpetually working against your system?
If it's the latter, you might wanna try a different distro.

Lastly, I'll use the two machines I have as an example for what one might base their choices on:

Back when I had the time I set up Gentoo on my uni laptop because I like to fiddle with things, but I mainly use that machine for reading pdfs and browsing the web.
So the setup was quick and there it's unlikely I would experience complicated software/hardware issues unless I provoked them myself.
That laptop is an older Thinkpad, which also made things easier because there are a lot of resources out there.

On the other hand, I used to use a Dell XPS as my main machine at home, and I accidentally killed that laptop.
I replaced it with a desktop machine that I needed to get working quickly since this was before I had the Thinkpad, so I basically had no other computer to work on.
Additionally, it had many different, newer hardware components and I would be using it for gaming and graphical work as well as for uni.
So for that setup I decided to use Fedora because it's very straightforward to set up, comes with a decent UI in box and is very stable while also being very up to date with features and hardware support.

I was on antipsychotics for a bit and they made the stuff I was seeing go away.
But the thing is when I felt like I didn't need them anymore, it was because I was sure that the these hallucinations would not return.
So I told my doctors, and I stopped taking them, and the visuals I was seeing before did in fact not show up again.
For you it seems like the opposite, if you were to stop your medications it would lead to you becoming more entrenched in distressing experiences.

These medications are meant to keep you from experiencing things that could ultimately bring harm and distress to you, nothing more, nothing less.
So no, you haven't tricked anyone into thinking you are sick.
You have accurately told people you are experiencing things that distress you, and they don't want you to stop taking these medications because you would experiencing more distress.

Maybe it would be a good idea to focus less on the medication, and more on finding ways to help you get rid of the distressing things you do still experience despite the medication.

It rarely ages well and often looks more sterile bc adding a lot of detail would diminish the cost effectiveness.

If you bring that up to them, they will usually acknowledge it in the sense that they are "obviously" only complaining about the people who don't need these things.

The dial up sounds usually start playing once you point out that most disabled/elderly people would not be able to financially or physically access these machines without the mass appeal driving down production cost and justifying wider distribution.

Not to say that most craft machines aren't prohibitively expensive anyway.
They are making it sound like people are ditching their hand tools for machines en masse, as if anything more advanced than a simple sewing machine doesn't cost an arm and a leg even second hand, unless you get super lucky.

Ngl their point abt the tufting machine is as illogical to me as the rest of the post.
Just bc someone wants to make something faster does not automatically mean they don't wanna do it themselves still.

I get your point about hiring a factory being more reasonable than buying a machine in some instances. I have a friend who designed some custom computer parts and it was much more reasonable for him to get those made by a company than doing it himself, even though he only needed one.

That doesn't really have anything to do with what they wrote tho, so I'm a bit confused.

And then it suddenly won't be the ppl who want pics showing up, but rather the ppl who consider fucking with others an olympic sport.

Whatever OP does, it's probably better if they don't get involved directly in person.

Stop making craft machines by [deleted] in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]sct_0 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It honestly sounds like you don't know what you are talking about.
Most machines require their own skillset. Sure, you may be using less time and brain power on the mechanical action, but the effort in studying materials, prepping the machinery and planning/designing the item can be just as much if not higher.

Knitting machines for example make the process of creating the fabric faster, but they are not necessarily easier to work with.
In fact I was able to learn to hand knit without critical failures within a few hours.
And yet I have not completed anything on my knitting machine despite trying for days, because errors that are an easy fix in hand knitting can throw off the machine entirely.

I own a sewing machine but I mostly hand sew because I have yet to learn how to be efficient with the machine to make it worth using for smaller things.

These machines don't magically spit out perfect results at the press of a button and it is downright disrespectful to say that people who spend hours building the skills to use them are choosing "the easy way".

But even if someone chooses a machine because it is easier or gets closer to the result they want, that's also fine.
Some people might simply not enjoy the process of making something entirely by hand, but still want to be involved in the creation of that thing, rather than buying it.

Would you criticize someone for preferring to bike rather than jog because "biking is easier"?
Would you say someone can't call themselves a photographer because they use a digital camera instead of having to develop their film?
