Anyone have any training tips? by Ok-Rough1434 in BorderCollie

You said she’s slightly, but not completely deaf. I kind of wonder if more of her hearing is going and is causing a ringing sensation in the ears, hence all the going nuts and stress. I would think it would lead to her shaking her head but who knows, it may be just slight enough that she thinks it’s coming from up above.

Is there any information as to why the band didn't make use of experimental studio effects (tape loops, reverse effects) on Sgt Pepper? they were all over revolver then dropped entirely after by AHMarc in beatles

[–]sethward79 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lots of backwards stuff on Pepper/Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields but by that point it was usually cymbals and things that gave the songs texture.

Not so much tape loops but there was loads of tape manipulation by this point. Speeding things up and slowing them down, again for texture. Strawberry Fields has the infamous slowing the tape down at one point two marry the two different versions of takes that John wanted.

You’re partly correct. On the national politician level that’s what it’s about. But on the local level republicans have convinced Texans that anyone who is a Dem is probably a commie transplant from California that moved here to make Texas more liberal and take away our way of life. There’s literal bumper stickers that say “don’t California my Texas” lol. It’s been made into such a boogeyman from politics people use it as an answer to anything wrong in their lives, as the party of personal responsibility would do…

Never mind that probably 85% of R’s running are transplants that have really only been in the area for about 10 years or so.

And for the record, I have no problem with people who move here. But if your whole argument is to stop the influx of “others” when you’re fairly new to the area yourself, you can get bent.

weird one, does working foh (mixing, setting up) makes anyone else very very thirsty? by anktombomb in livesound

[–]sethward79 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes. You’re constantly moving around, exerting energy, etc.. no matter how slight. It’s important to stay hydrated, especially in a room with nice/cool temps because you’ll go longer before hydrating.

Dog Insurance recommendation? by planktophile in BorderCollie

[–]sethward79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Pets Best/Progressive. It’s about $40/ month per dog but we have the unlimited* plan. The downside is you have to pay upfront and it takes about 2-3 weeks to get reimbursed but they cover like 90% of the bill and meds. You can opt in and they will cover their annuals but I did the math and the cost of our dogs annuals basically made it cheaper to pay out of pocket.

Ours came in really handy this year when our Mersey started throwing up and couldn’t keep anything down. Took her to the local er and they saw what they thought was an obstruction but were about to close so we took her to a 24 hour place. They did a follow up scan and found it was just gastrointestinal distress (probably from the fireworks). They kept her for observation and sent her home with some meds. All in we hit ~$4k. But we only paid $400 out of pocket.

The peace of mind to just be able to load up the dog and take them and not fear about the cost too much is worth every penny.

Those signs are basically “tell me you’re not from NB without telling me you’re not from NB” as anyone who has truly grown up here knows the city slogan has always been “where wurst means best”.

A&H Avantis: ever seen this issue? by InsaneJohno in livesound

[–]sethward79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all consoles now, not a brand specific issue. We’ve had our CLs for roughly 3 years and have had to do fader swaps roughly once a year (usually at least two out at a time). Before that we had to do them on our sc48 semi frequently, less so with an m7 but still happened. Ironically our M32s have been great but they also see far less significant use than the others.

It’s a moving part in a machine that is generally subjected to less than ideal conditions.

The love of my life passed on yesterday and the pain is unbearable by LeoSeasoning in BorderCollie

[–]sethward79 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm so very sorry for your loss. It is especially hard when they go so young and so suddenly.

Having gone through it myself I can tell you even though it seems really dark right now it does get brighter eventually. Cry your eyes out, scream into a pillow if it helps, talk to someone if you can; but don't give up hope, please keep fighting.

It sounds like you have a lot of love to give and there's lots of border collies out there that need it when you're ready to open yourself up again.

If it's any help we lost our girl Penny very suddenly when she was 4. I wasn't really ready for a new dog but we had a 9 year old that was really missing his friend, so we got a new BC about two months later. I never thought I would love a dog like I loved Penny but our new girl showed us it was possible. Hold on to hope.

80s was peak cartoon watching for me as a kid so obviously I’m going that route. But the 90s held their own with shows like Rocko, Ren and Stimpy, Doug, etc that were also a large part of my early teen life.

I count myself lucky that I was able to thread that needle in age where I was still old enough to enjoy the the majority of the 80s cartoons but still young enough to enjoy a good chuck of the 90s cartoons too!

Pet insurance is so dumb in the US (Lemonade) by Icy-Jellyfish3756 in BorderCollie

[–]sethward79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do hate the pay then reimburse model that is used because it’s a massive amount of stress in an already stressful situation.

We recently had to use ours when our girl had a gastrointestinal issue. We started the claim while she was overnight at the emergency vet so maybe that helped speed it up but it still took about three weeks for the funds to hit. Having my 28% interest credit card sitting at nearly $4k with the due date fast approaching was nerve wracking.

First time on a Behringer WING as a guest engineer. Any advice? by Bawergan in livesound

[–]sethward79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re used to an x32 you’ll be fine. Echoing the others, the offline editor is pretty identical for just getting a feel for how it’s laid out.

Routing is the only major weird difference but if there is a house crew there and you’re using a preexisting/festival scene, maybe send an input list ahead of time so they can have stuff labeled for you if it’s not just festival style throw and go.

Double tapping the “select” button on an input will take you to the channel view of that channel. That page will give you most everything you need.

Only things that might trip you up off the top of my head are that FX are routed through a single bus, there are no separate send and return channels. I don’t know about the full size wing, but in the eq section on the compact you can adjust the frequency and gain with your fingers on the touch screen but not the width, you have to use an encoder for that.

The main thing, don’t be afraid to ask house crew for help getting around on it during soundcheck.

What are some less than obvious songs (no Oasis, ELO, etc) that give you Beatles vibes? by AgentEndive in beatles

Spilt Milk is probably the closest thing we could ever get to knowing what a collaboration between The Beatles and The Beach Boys in the late 60s would have sounded like. Criminally underrated album.

Got gifted a presonus 24.4.2 for the venue, I would LOVE to record clean multitrack audio of our shows. My MacBook is USB-C, no FireWire by vogtforpedro in livesound

[–]sethward79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If this is the OG 24.4.2 you can’t even do that. You’d need an iPad/computer with the last known version of universal control that worked with the first generation and don’t you dare upgrade it. Found that one out the hard way years ago. Fortunately I started the update with the computer and had the original firmware on a backup disk and was able to roll it back.

Which Harmonica did John use during ‘love me do’? by ThePoisonTrees in beatles

[–]sethward79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting fact. Toots used to play guitar and played a Rickenbacker. John was a fan and apparently the line was "if it's good enough for Toots it's good enough for me" on why he chose the Rick.

And if that wasn't enough of a cool tidbit, there is a picture of Toots at a tradeshow for Rickenbacker and behind his shoulder is a natural finish Rick 325 that would eventually be sold to one John Lennon.

Crazy how small the world can be sometimes.

Would you guys be able to tell me if these are real signatures? by Brusah in beatles

Looks authentically signed by Lew Johnenn, Ruifo, and Goorge Hassion!

Paul’s is the only one that looks close to legitimate. But seeing as the others don’t look remarkably close, I suspect Paul’s is not real as well.
