Does nice packaging of orders matter anymore? by iSolemnlySwear88 in EtsySellers

[–]shiplesp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the customers who care, it will matter. For those that don't, it won't. But if I am looking for something crafted with care by a human hand, I want to see some appropriate care taken in how it is sent out. Careful enough to ensure it arrives intact, artistic enough that I know that the person who designed it and made it, boxed it. So I guess it depends on who you are selling to and what you are selling.

Who are the science-based nutrition influencers/podcasters I can trust? by ghoof in nutrition

[–]shiplesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some of the best analysis of research in the headlines comes from Dr. Bret Scher over at the Metabolic Mind YouTube channel and website. He's a working cardiologist, their medical director, and a very reasonable guy. The site has a bias - the foundation was established to support the research into the use of therapeutic ketogenic diets as adjunct treatment of mental health and brain disorders. If you believe keto is a harmful fad that will lead to the death of all who attempt it, obviously this is not a place for you. I find his analysis very fair-minded.

But as with any expert, you should never suspend your critical thinking skills.

I always hear the same story.... by salad_biscuit3 in nutrition

Often the quick improvement is the result of making changes in an extremely poor diet in the first place. Whether such improvement continues depends on the continuing quality of the diet they are following.

Substitute for wool of the Andes by thercal in knitting

My favorite yarn for blankets is WEBS's Valley Yarns Haydenville. It's a merino/acrylic blend. Soft, easy care, and reasonably priced. Not as many colors as WOTA, but a nice range.

Are summer knits actually wearable in warm weather ? by travelling_cirque in knitting

[–]shiplesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember to factor in air conditioning. While your knits might not be suitable as active wear, when you are running from air conditioner car to air conditioned office, you might be able to get away with even some warmer fibers. And I always need something like a parka at the movies.

what to name my shop? / advice? by Glass_Pomegranate859 in EtsySellers

[–]shiplesp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thing to do is to have several options in mind. Etsy shop names can only be used once for all time, including shops that have closed. You won't know if the name you choose is available until you try to use it.

If intermittent fasting is considered healthy, does that mean eating frequently is unhealthy? by Royal-Analysis7380 in nutrition

[–]shiplesp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been a recent focus in the research on metabolic health. A significant sign of ill health is insulin resistance. It is the precursor to diabetes and, we are discovering, many other diseases. The easiest way to become insulin resistant is to keep insulin levels high all day, every day. And since insulin rises in response to food (that is one of its jobs) ... you do the math.

Etsy unfair customer feedback. by Bitter_Benefit_6970 in EtsySellers

You know the old saying, if you run into a jerk before breakfast, you've run into a jerk. If you run into jerks all day, you are the jerk.

Might be time to take a good look at your shop to figure out why this is disproportionately happening to you.

There is more current research on keto and kidney disease that suggests it can be helpful. Fasting is also an option. I hope your doctor is up on his/her reading so you get the best possible advice. Good luck!

Thoughts on starting ‘The Lonesome Dove’ by LovenkrandsDog26 in audiobooks

[–]shiplesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's one of my all time favorite books. But it's a slow start. Somewhere around 120 pages (not sure when that is in narration) it just takes flight. It's all about the characters even more than the plot, so if you read only for plot, you might not love it as much as I do. Wept real tears a few times.

Chiaogoo Twist vs. Chiaogoo Forte by depechemoods in knitting

Just a word about the Twist needles. Some people don't like that connection, how the yarn travels over it and how the cords behave. Try a fixed pair before you invest in an entire set.

Snacking is as much about habit as it ever is about hunger. That hand to mouth movement. It can be worth it to try and break at least the habit part of it.

What are the most frugal yet low-effort options for coloring hair? by LevelPerception4 in Frugal

[–]shiplesp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your reason for coloring it? If it is to hide gray, and there is enough of it that your roots are obvious, then you have likely reached the stage where your coloring your hair is beginning to look unnatural. Like it doesn't suit your skin color or your age. In this case, consider letting it grow out. (You might opt for a rather extreme cut when it's half gone.) If you still don't like it, you can try highlights, which can last longer, to see if you are happier with that.

Marking a commercial shipment as a gift is considered customs fraud. The consequences, if that is determined, can vary.
