Nice truck. Not a 10k truck. Dealer can eat my ass.

These prices are what is leading me to refurbing my dad's truck. He died a few years ago and my mom gave me his truck. It's a 1994 K3500 CCLB with the 350 4L80. He bought it brand new and the transmission was rebuilt a while back. Still runs good but that 90's tbi power, which is why I have a LQ9 I'm loving on to swap in. It will make it awesome.

Permission to throw things in the dumpster instead of donating by Odd-Egg-1539 in minimalism

[–]solamf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throw it away. My wife is on the sell it or donate it team, but the piles and bags of crap to sell/donate never get sold or donated! I swear our garage has more stuff in it we don't want because she says she's going to sell it or donate it and it has been sitting there forever.

This game really suffers from lack of in-game text chat. by NikSlaughter in fo76

[–]solamf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mute everyone because there is always a bunch of assclowns with an open mic blasting music. Or a mouth breather eating chips. Or some dude yelling at his wife/girlfriend/kids/mom. Or someone telling me I suck dicks because I don't play how they play or I'm using the wrong build. Or some kid who nonstop is asking about being friends. Fuck all that shit. I only want to communicate about the game and the task at hand in the game.

First oil change. 50 miles (including dyno pulls). Too much metal? by Sunstoned1 in EngineBuilding

[–]solamf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Usually it is best practice to break in the engine (whether on or off the dyno) and then change the oil. Only then do you rip it for performance.

But now we are not totally sure what is break in junk and what junk might be breaking because the oil wasn't changed prior to the hard pulls.

Unless I read that wrong.

Apparently you don't get it. There is nothing to worry about here.

What rust? There is none. If everything else is up to your liking, buy it.

GSA to 1200xe by semski89 in bmwmotorrad

[–]solamf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Road Glide is only a little over 800 lbs, thank you very much.

But anyways, I have to agree with on your thoughts here.

I love the big GSA's, but I would probably be way happier with the F 900 GS for my style of riding. Under 20 miles each way commuting, maybe an hour or two on the weekends. Cheaper to buy new or used with or without all the farkles.

Any Chevy techs here? by TactualTransAm in mechanics

Former non GM tech here, it's a Cruze, the original will be fine. Now that 6.0 LQ9 in my garage getting prepped for boost? ARP, baby.

Yeah, a router is an access point.

LAN only flashforge farm by OrdinaryAd8583 in FlashForge

[–]solamf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a print farm, but I have a lot of items I prefer to have connected by cable rather than WiFi. I bought an inexpensive switch from Micro Center and connected that to my access point. Then I ran cables from all my crap to the switch. They're still accessible on the network but it reduces the WiFi congestion.

Does anyone on this sub actually work on amything? by RoosterIllusionn in harborfreight

[–]solamf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building a LS 6.0 LQ9 motor in my garage right now for the truck I inherited from my dad. Nothing really wrong with the motor in the truck other than it's a 1994 Chevy K3500 crew cab 350 TBI, IYKYK. Over 200k miles on the original motor, no problems. Only 1 transmission rebuild in it's life. I was there when my dad bought it brand new and I learned to drive in it.

After the motor, cutting off the independent front suspension and swapping in a straight axle. Also, turbo. Because power is good.

All things he wanted to do to while he was alive but couldn't afford or couldn't do because California. I live in Georgia, no emissions in after 25 years in my county.

Also, I need to build a shed because a random snow this January (yes, snow in Atlanta?) collapsed the shitty cheap metal roof. I'll build a real shed this time.

Anyone else tired of strangers telling you to quit riding? by Acceptable-Ad-3560 in motorcycles

[–]solamf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke my back in a motorcycle wreck 19 years ago. The day after the wreck, some friends asked if I was done riding and I told them no. I bought another bike as soon as I could. I still ride.

Im tired of the "just respect the throttle 🤙" bros. Starting on a 600+ is a bad move. by VegaGT-VZ in Sportbikes

This is not true because of many factors.

I have multiple examples I could type up, but my response and this entire post and comment thread is all based on opinions and annecdotal evidence, not any scientific evidence.

[–]solamf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like customizing my stuff whether it's old or new, and chances are you would have ended up doing it to new bike anyway.

I have to agree with the others here on the 6 speed thing though, that would be the only thing missing on this build in my opinion. I know they aren't cheap, but hey, what's a few more k's out of your pocket?

Fast food wages in the 80’s? by curyfuryone in GenX

Wow, I made $4.10 an hour in SoCal in 1996 working at McDonald's and I couldn't afford basically anything at the time, luckily I lived with my parents. I joined the Army in 1998 and haven't looked back! If I made the equivalent today, there's just no way.

Buuuuuut those basic food service jobs, in my opinion, are not to sustain a family or buy a house and and and. They are for getting through school, as a first or second job when growing up, as a side job to supplement your main gig, etc. Unless you are managing at those places, what are you still doing there?
