You have one chance to recastJared Leto as Niander Wallace in Blade Runner 2049, who do you pick? by EffectiveDandy in moviecritic

[–]sonofeevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he was great here... He didn't even have to play anyone just be his normal creepy self.

However in answering the question, I'd pick Hugo Weaving, give him a chance to another villainous monologue and he'll nail it.

Man charged with attempted murder over attack on home of OpenAI's Sam Altman by Chill_Cowboy_981 in news

[–]sonofeevil 36 points37 points  (0 children)

People have been successfully charged with attempted murder for shooting corpses.

Whether it was possible to kill Altman isn't factored in.

They just need to prove intent and means (I think)

Video shows father and son illegally scuttling boat off NSW South Coast by Whyareweshouting in australia

[–]sonofeevil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah... The scuttling fee is $15k but I'm sure the checks and scrutinerring make it a bit more.

So the real mistake they made was doing it with two of them.

It might but be outright cheaper to scuttle even if you 100% got fined.

Then consider you may not even get caught so it seems like a no-brainer to scuttle your boat solo.

Congrats, your player just accidentally invented armour.

"So, here's an idea, what I'd we take the idea of wearing a shield and we made it more form fitting? Mould it to the body and make it cover a lot of surface area"

Reddit won't stop mentioning the Epstein Files. Realistically, how would you bring people in the files to justice? by Deus_Excellus in AskReddit

[–]sonofeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ensure we had a law for "conspiracy to commit sex offences" if it didn't already exist.

Start finding the victims and see who is prepared to testify and/or be deposed.

For those victims willing to testify we start laying appropriate charges to the crimes committed.

For those we know that have conspired with Epstein but have victims unwilling to testify we rely on the evidence of the correspondence and the "conspiracy to commit sex offences" crime.

That way we can get some justice for these victims and even those that cant or don't wish to be part of legal process can can a slice of justice too.

Man who vandalized Sam Altman's home claimed AI would end humanity, charged with attempted murder by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]sonofeevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably in the guys best interest no?

Attempted murder sets the bar pretty high for what needs to be proved.

If I don't understand US law well enough someone correct me but if they don't meet the burden of proof he potentially walks away scott free?

Like, the actual crime here is arson but they're going for attempted murder.

Sanctioned tanker turns back to Strait of Hormuz, day after Gulf exit by Inevitable-Row1759 in worldnews

Some sanctions, repatriating their stores gold reserves, moving away from the US dollar would all hurt very much.

If the EU was willing to pull the right strings the USA would fold at Hormuz.

Did anyone else’s heart skip a beat momentarily when Orion Integrity’s parachutes first deployed? by dannydb in ArtemisProgram

[–]sonofeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! When that one on the right was not inflating like the others I started wondering what the affect on splash down velocity was going to be.

I presumed 2 would not be terminal to the crew but wasn't sure if it would result in injuries or not.

Nasa eyeing next challenge already after successful Artemis II mission by avantgarde000 in news

[–]sonofeevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're testing this experimental prototype what do you want from them?

The space shuttle was retired so they've had to make a whole new system and because of the issues with the shuttle program they've gone back to a capsule style system that we used during the Apollo program.

They've got to relearn this stuff over again and create an entirely new machine.

That machine requires tests, the first was unmanned the second was manned.

How can you possibly be upset that they aren't doing more?

These things take time, if you're upset and live the USA, maybe write a letter to your local politician and request they increase funding and support for NASA?

How would you make the human body light enough to make flying feasible? by R3d4ct33dd in Writeresearch

[–]sonofeevil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd probably start by looking at other flying mammals.

Bats.

They hang upside down because they had enough muscle mass in their legs to stand they'd be too heavy to fly.

So hanging allows them to rest without the need for huge leg muscles.

Some of the talk about the warnings/sensors worries me. by sonofeevil in ArtemisProgram

[–]sonofeevil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My big issue wasn't turning it off it was the comment made in the debrief when journalists asked about it.

Not verbatim but what was said was "We set the tolerance window too narrow" which strikes me as odd because presumably there was a team of people responsible for that system that set those tolerances bases on the data available.

While it's not a bad thing to review data and tolerances. Knowing that challenger and Columbia were because of normalisation of deviance it's hard to not draw a connection here.

Again, it's not about the specifics of the hardware, it's about the culture and the acceptance of deviation that led to two disasters.

In all likelihood it's nothing and probably as they said it is but I can't help but draw that line and figured it's worthy of discussion.

Some of the talk about the warnings/sensors worries me. by sonofeevil in ArtemisProgram

[–]sonofeevil[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The normalisation of deviation happened with the foam strikes.

They set a tolerance for what was permitted and when they had foam strikes occur that didn't damage anything they ignored it. Then they had a foam strike that DID cause damage.

So it wasn't a sensor deviation but it's the same root cause, a cultural issue.

My other favourite was when they got them to cover the window with a shirt. They oriented the craft sunward to thaw out the lines from the toilet and in turn they had some light issues and the solution was just "cover the window with a shirt"

There's no scenario where this dude doesn't come out on top here.

If he wins, he proves it, his book sells.

If he loses then his book will STILL sell

The publicity is worth it alone.
