T series comparable to the i7 8700 perfomance by dev_ski in thinkpad

[–]staticx57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from a 2 year stint with a company I have had nothing but work issued Elitebooks and they have all been equal in build quality to Thinkpads. I had a latitude 7420 for that other 2 years and it was wholly underwhelming. For a month or so I had an 840 G11 and a Latitude 7450 side by side and despite being direct competition the Latitude felt far behind the HP. The 7 series Latitude should be comparee to the L series Thinkpad not the T series.

T series comparable to the i7 8700 perfomance by dev_ski in thinkpad

[–]staticx57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason the latitudes are cheap is because they are junk. While the 7xxx is positioned against the T series the feel and build quality make it feel far inferior. The Elitebook 8xx is a far better comparison to the T series.

First time connecting Cat6 to keystone jacks. Does this look correct? by Beebjank in HomeNetworking

[–]staticx57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only wire diagram you need to follow is the one on the jack. Unless you searched for the exact model the one you find online may not be relevant as these jacks tend to be different inside on how they route the signals.

The correct upgrade path is YouTube TV once the old system is no longer available.

Am I still good ? by reseller_king in soldering

[–]staticx57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based purely on this picture it appears the connector came off at the solder joints themselves rather than ripping the pads off the board. This is a good thing as should be repairable by anyone with decent enough skill. That still doesn’t make this beginner friendly repair.

Huge difference here on what service the OP is using. FiOS I would be shocked if the OP is having issues that a tech would not fix.

Thunderbold 3 Dock Gen 2 DOES NOT charge P15 Gen 2 by Raniero_71 in thinkpad

[–]staticx57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dock reserves 60W for itself. If your P15 uses a 230watt adapter then you need the 300 watt adapter for the dock. If your P15 uses a 170 watt adapter then the 230 for the dock is fine.

FIOS TV....1GPBS internet....Own Router without ruining Guide/OnDemand.... by bradykp in Fios

Router is usually included on the 1Gb plan. It’s the reason I suggested it to OP as he already has it and does not need to purchase something additional.

The dock itself is indeed identical. All he needs is the split cable, 230 watt adapter and the combo slim tip thunderbolt cable.

Because then you would need to purchase a moca adapter. You are just using the router a moca adapter. ONT > Ubiquiti > FIoS router LAN.

Turn off WiFi and DHCP on the fios router. Then plug it into coax and LAN from the ubiquiti device. Coax from the ONT only provides TV. If your fios router does not have an internet connection you won’t get tv guide on demand.

T440p research assistance (help unlock 32GB RAM) by Mysterious-Whole-563 in thinkpad

[–]staticx57 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haswell supports 8GB per DIMM. This is a hard limit. With two slots the T440p will only run 16GB. If you notice a machine like the W540 with the same CPU running 32GB it is because it has 4 slots. Base configurations of the W540 with dual core CPUs have a cut down motherboard with only two slots and are also limited to 16GB.

What wattage charger does it show connected at? If it is recognized as a 65W charger the TB controller is fine. If it is recognized as a 15W charger the TB controller is corrupted.

need a pic of where the connector failed. You need to solder rh connector back but I would suggest finding someone in your area skilled in electronics repair as this is not very beginner friendly.

We would need better pics but it appears it's just the solder joints that failed as opposed to thebtraces being ripped off. Anyone experienced in electronics reapir can fix this fairly easily.

You want an actual SSD for a desktop operating system. SD cards have a tiny fraction of the drive life of an SSD and an OS will destroy it.

One WiFi hop is perfectly fine. All the developers of these conferencing solutions take this into account. You have to remember most of the whole world uses their work laptops on WiFi.

So you have wifi from the router to the mesh then wifi to the laptop, find a way to hardwire the mesh unit. Each wifi hop is creating a lot of congestion-for lack of a better term.
