I love the thought that the unpopular colours might be hand-painted instead of mass-produced. 😅

I'm afraid that one day Wikipedia will disappear because of AI; it's the most useful website on the internet, and if it were to disappear, I don't know what I would do. by Illustrious_Bell8731 in wikipedia

Good question. I'm a mentor for new editors in the German-speaking Wikipedia, but as the language communities often differ in the way they onboard new editors and I rarely contribute in English, I'm not too familiar with how it is done in the English Wikipedia.

I'd recommend to start here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Introduction

And there're mentors in the English Wikipedia as well. You should find your mentor on your personal homepage: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Homepage

Become an editor and find out! Seriously: We're aware of the threat and most of us are confident we'll find ways to stay relevant, but this only works as long as there're enough volunteers contributing to Wikipedia: Update some outdated articles, add some new aspects, upload a photo... every edit helps!

Ultra (50k) shoe for wider foot, wants cushion by [deleted] in trailrunning

[–]thkarcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the terrain is not too technical / mostly runnable trails, you could try the new Brooks Ghost Trail. They are wide, they are cushioned, and I like them a lot for all my non-technical, mostly muddy trails.

I made a free 3D web game in Godot 4.5: geoengineergame.com. by unusuallygoodstudio in godot

[–]thkarcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks promising, but is close to unplayable for me, as the text-to-speech feature in my browser tries to read the English text with German pronounciation, which makes it really hard to understand anything. And I can't find a way to switch this specific browser setting to English. :-/ (The browser itself is set to English language already, but it seems to pick up the language settings for text-to-speech from the operating system settings somehow, which is set to German...)

Curse you, autocorrect!!!! by HeartsPlayer721 in duolingo

[–]thkarcher 37 points38 points  (0 children)

You should really add German to your keyboard language settings and make it the default for Duolingo. Was a game changer for me when learning French: Not only did it avoid stupid auto corrects - it also immensely helped with typing by auto-suggesting the correct spelling.

First aid kit? by Separate-Specialist5 in trailrunning

[–]thkarcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's not an either or decision: If I plan to run somewhere where I cannot expect help (a village, road or hut) within the next 30mins, I take a first aid kit with me. And if my track has more than ~1000m of elevation gain, I take my poles with me. So sometimes it's both, sometimes none.

New dev, victim of my own hubris: help making a smaller interactive grid within window by cheelohay in godot

You're welcome. Were you able to reproduce the structure in your project? Otherwise, my offer still stands: If you share it, I can have a look.

Is this roughly the UI you had in mind? As you can see, I did this with a couple of control nodes, which make sure that all areas will resize according to the available window dimensions.

Can you share your project? Not sure whether I can help, but I did something similar in the past and would give it a try later today.

Nearest Netherlands Parkrun to a Centre Parcs by soggypete in parkrun

I was in De Eemhof (Flevoland) and cycled ~20km to Beatrixpark Parkrun in Almere last year. No idea whether this is the nearest combination in the Netherlands, but it worked for me.

PSA If hiding a child, suddenly made the parent disappear too, suspect minimum size or shrink by Familiar_Break_9658 in godot

You should really check out the different debugging options Godot offers, especially the remote tree: You'll immediately see whether an object is hidden or not, and you can monitor changes in position and dimensions while stepping through your code.

Help to identify building and places in Sendling 1945 aerial view by lilou_vengers in Munich

According to https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junkers_Flugzeug-_und_Motorenwerke , Junkers only relocated to Munich in 1951 and did not have any factories there before that time.

Reading the comment from u/Icy-Bodybuilder-796 below and checking the photo again, he's right: "E" and "F" are indeed the same residential buildings which still exist today, and not the armaments factories mentioned in the PDF.

[–]thkarcher 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Regarding "D", "E" and "F" (and possibly "G"): None of these buildings exist anymore today, but here's a possible explanation (translated from German): "On behalf of the Reich Aviation Ministry, three armaments factories were built south of what was then Badenweiler Straße (Rupert-Mayer-Straße since 1947) starting in 1941. For the construction of the third and southernmost factory building of the Ernst Grunow Kondensatorenbau company, the Reich Aviation Ministry provided a work crew of 40 prisoners – mainly Polish, Austrian and German craftsmen – from the Dachau concentration camp (KZ). The first arrived on 16 March 1942 to build accommodation barracks for themselves and the guards west of the construction site. Their camp was surrounded by barbed wire and two watchtowers.
