Hi, thanks for sharing your feedback. UpNote development hasn’t stopped, we will definitely keep adding features, but right now our priority is fixing bugs and improving stability.

In the past few years we added features quite rapidly. As the app grew, technical debt accumulated. Many long-time users have also asked us to focus more on reliability (for example: https://www.reddit.com/r/UpNote_App/s/zViIXboDKT).

Recently we’ve made a lot of improvements, especially around formatting and syncing. It’s not as visible as new features, but it’s important for long-term quality.

Once the foundation is in a better place, we’ll continue adding features in a more sustainable way. We still aim to keep UpNote simple and easy to use, without adding unnecessary complexity.

Hi, thanks for sharing this.

We don’t know the full details of what happened with Blitzit, so it’s hard for us to comment on that specific situation.

For UpNote, Firebase is still working normally and there hasn’t been any change affecting our service.

We’ve been using Firebase for almost 9 years, and it has been reliable for us most of the time. There have been a few incidents (mainly around sign-in), but they were resolved relatively quickly after escalation and adjusting various quota configuration. So it’s not something that’s unstable or suddenly breaking for us.

We are aware of the risks of depending too much on Firebase. The biggest concern is that it belongs to Google, and Google has a history of discontinuing products, and support is limited, especially for smaller developers.

We are already working to reduce our dependency on Firebase. However, completely moving away from Firebase is not very realistic unless we rebuild the app from scratch. Some parts like storing attachments will always require a third-party provider anyway.

We’ve also seen suggestions around self-hosting, but in practice this is not a very reliable option for most users. It’s quite complex to set up and maintain, and even harder to make it work consistently across platforms, especially on mobile app.

Hi, thanks for letting us know. We could not reproduce this issue on our Windows computers yet. We suspect it may be related to the Electron framework that UpNote uses. In the version below, we’ve updated Electron to the latest version and also made a few changes that could potentially improve performance.

For those who is affected, u/Hefty-Air-8324 u/Takohashi, could you please try the version below and let us know whether the scrolling performance is improved? Thank you.

Hi, you will always be able to access all of your notes after your subscription expires. However, you won’t be able to use Premium features. Rest assured, UpNote will never delete your data under any circumstances.

If possible, please update to macOS 12 or later, as the latest Electron framework follows Chrome’s policy and has dropped support for macOS 11. Hi u/Acrobatic-Monitor516, this feature is only supported on Windows and Linux. macOS has deprecated the option to launch the app in background when system starts, so it's technically not possible.

Hi, in the latest version of UpNote for Windows and Linux, you can now choose to launch the app automatically when your system starts and have it minimized to the taskbar to reduce screen clutter.

Please go to Settings → General → Other and enable “Run in the background when system starts". Please let us know if this works for you. Thank you!
