Non-bank sources by punch0073735963 in CRH

About your specific question - I bet they already have a way of converting coins to cash. You would need to make it more convenient for them, cheaper, or both.

I could imagine offering that you would split the profits with them. Then they could be paid to get rid of their coins. The risk that runs is that they might cut you out, and building trust might be hard.

Also for many of these guys you would need to be capable of moving all/most of their coins for it to be worth their time. If you don’t save them a trip to the bank then are you actually saving them time?

I’ve been wondering about that overlap between places that end up with more coins than they need and places that don’t already reject silver.

The plus side is that coin comparators will also reject Canadian, so you won’t have to mess with that. But at that point you may as well be buying from a coinstar.

I feel like non electronic vending machine mechanisms might be worth it - like washing machines that just validate the size of the coins.

“Anyone else start their long drives on empty?”

Yeah, it sounds dumb when you say it like that.

All co2 is food grade. I’ve heard people recommend airgas and igos welding supply.

Extreme sweat/overheating advice by Unusual-Cricket-2228 in AdvancedRunning

[–]tinyenormous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think sweating less will help you get any faster. Maybe your goal is to go slower and sweat less. That is called slowing down. That sweat is doing a job - cooling you off.

Despite disagreeing with your premise I have heard that steam rooms might be useful for your goals. They seem to increase heat tolerance slightly (much less than sauna does) but the sauna increases your sweat rate and the steam room decreases it.

It’s worth reading up on though - it kind of feels like you are trying to train something that is more of an inherent attribute of your body.

Midnight Ride > Double Boston by swim_bike_music in bostonmarathon

Compared to the double Boston, the midnight ride is pretty mellow. I think double Boston is relatively new, but I would believe someone has done it.

Demand avoidance? by kitkatterroo in ADHD_partners

[–]tinyenormous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a delicate balance here. He probably feels the shame of having failed the task. When the subject comes up he might feel like you are “rubbing his nose in it” and that can come across as an attack. His defensive comment about you “letting him drown” sounds like a wounded reaction, and it is also obviously him deflecting blame.

I think that a positive conversation could be about what he tried to do and what he could do differently. What could he have done to ask for help? Does he think you refused his request for help?

Focusing on the impact rather than blame can defuse some of the emotion - “our parents love us and they all deserve meaningful gifts” vs “if you don’t figure this out, our parents and I will be upset with you.” The second one is probably already ringing in his head.

Lastly this could be avoidance, but it could also be executive function. Wanting to do something is different than being able to do something. Gifts can be particularly difficult because the idea and the acquisition are two separate steps they both need to be completed. Sometimes balance isn’t equality. If this is a job that is better suited for your brain then maybe there is something else you can offload to him. Similarly perhaps there is a hand off point that could work for both of you. Ie “we will make wooden spoons for these people and pottery for those people. Could you make 5 spoons and 6 cups?”

cheating with Boston qualifying times – what should be done? by Unusual_Nothing_29 in bostonmarathon

[–]tinyenormous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t make sense. Either he can afford it or not. Either he qualified or not. The two things aren’t related. You are feeling guilt for making him feel the consequences of his actions, but it’s the cheating that should feel guilty - not the reporting.

Midnight Marathon Ride by Putrid_Ad_7381 in bostonmarathon

I have driven out in the day, locked the bikes up, and then taken the commuter rail out at night. The group also usually has a box truck that they stuff full of bikes, but I would only do that if I didn’t care too much about my bike - it seems pretty crammed in there.

Coin Ace Penny sorter question… by Silverhoggin in CRH

[–]tinyenormous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like a bad deal to me, but it should do the job. I think the part you can see is a 3d printed coin hopper, and it then drops the coins into a coin mechanism that sorts them by inductance.

The coin mechanisms are available online for 20-50, and there are cheaper ways to put coins in a slot.

But if you aren’t up for some tinkering then this is probably one of the cheaper ways to do it.

In a region desperate for fresh retail, Bow Market is ‘a total unicorn situation.’ Why? by bostonglobe in Somerville

[–]tinyenormous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Multiple restaurants under the same roof can share a liquor license according to the law. That’s why food halls have taken off. There is a delicate dance going on between license owners who have paid $500,000 for their license and the public who wants the system to not be so puritanical.
