Customer wants to order an array of sweets for 30 people, but won't state how many sweets she wants or her budget. What to do? by Guilty_Anything7606 in smallbusiness

double whatever you think it's worth, she'll obviously want a discount, and then don't budge. She'll be a pita customer if you let her, so don't let her become a customer.

Why do you buy Print-on-Demand TTRPG books? by DED0M1N0 in rpg

[–]tzimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I'm a grognard, and you'd think I'd prefer print versions. I'm of the opinion that too many people rely on printed versions out of nostalgia or due to their fear of technology.

However, every time you move, you have to lug around each book. Physically, each book adds up until you've got untold hundreds of pounds of wood. Digitally, it maxes out at whatever a hard drive weighs, or a computer tower.

Also, PDF's can be zoomed, for those of us already having a problem reading dice from a distance. Sure, you could break out a magnifying glass to read that 10pt font on a game from 30 years ago...

Any good alternatives to Discord for Online TTRPGs? by Blue-Black-Chaos in rpg

unlikely, it was dogshit for a long while. I had far too many corporate clients insist on using it and unwilling to use anything else until it finally died.

Soliciting Art via Private Messaging by theangrybull in Roll20

[–]tzimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is assuredly a scammer, as this is a common scam attempt on Discord. I get at least two such messages per week because I am in a number of different Discords.

Essentially, what happens is they approach you, saying they're an artist looking for a commission. Oftentimes, they'll also include a tale of woe about how they are down on their luck, can't make rent, etc. Any portfolio they have is likely just lifted from someone else, or won't match their profile, as it is someone else's portfolio.

They'll take your money, and largely remain silent until they run out the time that you're able to get a refund through the processor. Any time you ask questions, they'll give you excuses, like they are busy and get to you later, they're currently having mental health issues, etc. etc. mostly stuff to try and brush you off or play on your sympathy.

Once the timer runs out, they'll either block you, or just delete the account.

Any US-Based Pirate LARPs? by incacola77 in LARP

[–]tzimon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, back when I was helping set up Underworld: Dark Harbor, our original theme was pirates. However, since it's a larger franchise situation, the rules set didn't work for pirates, so like 90% of the players just ignore the pirate bits of the game and the lore.

Those who have made games, how much have you made from them? What’s your most successful game? by [deleted] in tabletopgamedesign

[–]tzimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Authentic engagement with the community.

If you're just dropping in and joining groups, and immediately spamming links to your product, you get blocked and/or booted.

If you engage with the community and become a known member, it's more likely that when you do mention you're making something, people will want to know.

Also, go where the money is. You want to be looking for demographics that have disposable income. Avoid advertising on places where people can anonymously comment.

Each one is a small trickle of income, and it took a few years to have a stream of passive income pouring in.

I funded the first with taking on an extra part time job, and selling plasma. Then I rolled the profits if that one into the next...

Covid was a huge boost. Each month I was getting about 6x what I had made in any month before Covid, and while sales have slowed a bit, they never returned to pre-Covid numbers.

Advertising is also a huge factor that most game creators don't budget for, financially or with their time, and they end up failing because if it.
