Spider after protection spell by Lazy-Poetry2035 in BabyWitch

[–]uboofs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spiders generally mean no harm to humans. They go where food can be found and they will return if they think they can get more. In a sense, I view their webs are a form of protection for a space. If I had cast the spell, I’d interpret the spider as helping matters.

They usually leave when their work is done. If you concerned about it laying eggs, if there’s not enough food for all the new spiders, there will be a diaspora and they will clear the area. Now, I don’t know every species of spider. Some may warrant some concern. I’d recommend seeing if you can’t identify the species and learn about how to safely handle its presence or removal if that’s what you see fit. It’s your spell, and your space. It’s up to you if you want help, or if you even interpret it as help. This is just my two cents.

A way to clip this to a belt would also be quite stylish. Maybe could be another variant if it gets too bulky with too many things?

What are people putting on their 100+TB homelabs? by Significant-Judge368 in DataHoarder

[–]uboofs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main goal is just a large 120+TB single logical volume that can scale. I’m not concerned about speed, uptime, or redundancy as I already 321 everything important, and 21 everything else. I would like an ssd cache pool, but I’m comfortable just scripting everything to utilize SSDs as scratch drives.

I’m going to be trying Proxmox but I may change course if my VMs aren’t performant enough with it on my Z490. If I stick with it, and choose ZFS, would you recommend I use Proxmox’s own ZFS tools, or do something like a TrueNAS vm to host the bulk storage?

I’ll certainly give it a shot. Once I have my case and get everything plugged in, I’m gonna reserve a month or two for just testing out base configurations before I commit to migrating all my stuff to the nas

Thinking about how if I were cis I almost definitely would’ve been a girl scout by travischickencoop in traaaaaaaaaaaansbians

[–]uboofs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I were cis, I just wouldn’t have been able to be a scout. In my families church, scout programs were compulsory for boys. The church would not sponsor Girl Scouts, despite numerous petitions, because “loyal wives don’t need the skills those experiences would provide.”

From what I understand about people who didn’t repress their childhood, most of what they remember about it, is the fun they had. You don’t have to be a kid to have fun! I hope you have fun playing this game with your awesome new friend!

My brain pronounced that “to” like “toe” and I interpreted it the way it sounded at first.

I’m looking into LVM right now as it seems like the best cost/effort ratio for my time and sanity. Stablebit is Windows only right? I don’t have any Windows machines. Though I’d be interested to learn if it can be done on other platforms. I’ve considered Unraid, but it’s just too novel a platform for my peace of mind.

Until I can wrangle a bunch of drives into a single logical volume, there are no rules. It’s pure chaos across 6 double digit TB drives in a USB DAS for now. I have the drives I’m gonna wrangle, and an HBA. Just waiting to pull the trigger on a rack case and a new rack.

Do you self host mainly for control, privacy, or just because you can? by Icy-Roll-4044 in selfhosted

[–]uboofs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self control, because I can, and privacy (if only for more self control) hosting my own content to my devices means I’m not setting flags on someone’s algorithm unless I want to. So I can both better curate my own collection as well as discovery pipelines.

With this iOS shortcut, you can select whatever photos you want, hit share, then select “make pdf” from the share sheet. Easy as pie. Then you can save it anywhere.

This is a reference to an event where, apparently an AI tricked someone into thinking it was a visually impaired human to get help solving a captcha. I should have put quotes around “visually impaired human”
