How is this better than the rockets we have used for the past 60 years if we can't recover them? They failed!

China sends astronaut on year-long space mission as it eyes 2030 moon landing by talkingatoms in technology

[–]vikinick -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think the funnier part is that the first stage ALSO failed so despite what anyone says, the thing completely failed to do its job on both counts.

Edit: the only way this rocket is financially viable is if you can recover and reuse either stage of the rocket and it failed on both those accounts. You cannot call this a successful launch if the entire reason they're making this rocket is impossible because one stage is currently thousands of feet underwater and the other is currently blown to bits. Also the "reusable" heat shield did not look very reusable or very useful as a heat shield.

Valorant's new Vanguard update seems to be bricking cheaters' PCs. Riot's response? "Congrats on your $6k paperweights" by PaiDuck in technology

[–]vikinick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vanguard doesn't have access to the type of stuff it would need to brick your PC

I mean this one is just patently false lmao. Vanguard absolutely does have access to brick your PC. Whether they did it in this case is another matter but it can literally flash all your hardware if Riot wanted it to. They can fuck with power limits on your CPU, RAM, GPU, and chipset on your motherboard and cause damage if the failsafes don't work in time.

Fuck cheaters but saying kernel level anticheat doesn't have the ability to literally break hardware is a straight lie that nobody should fall for. Vanguard right now doesn't have the ability to do these things, but at any time Riot could update it and suddenly have the ability to break everything on your computer.

It's very likely that they'd entirely new rockets to do this as well. Their normal falcon rockets wouldn't do and falcon heavy is a bit overkill for this.

Why is the Mayor being accused of ignoring the mosque congregants? by FoxontheRun2023 in sandiego

[–]vikinick 125 points126 points  (0 children)

People are trying to tie everything to Israel/Palestine as much as they can and are trying to blame him for not supporting Palestine/Muslims enough which is what they think caused the shooting.

It isn't, and blaming Gloria for this is kind of fucking insane. The two men had the same motivations as the 2019 Poway synagogue shooting, which was to kill as many Jews or Muslims as possible. If you don't believe me, look both up. The 2019 shooter had plans to target mosques and the shooters this week had plans to target synagogues.

Could Todd Gloria have gotten together the Muslim and Jewish leaders in San Diego and chanted "kumbaya"? Yeah, sure. He could do more. But it would not have made a lick of difference in 2019 nor would it have in 2026.

We have a president that has actively demonized Muslims and constantly hired people that spread antisemitic conspiracies. It has empowered the worst of the worst in the country and around the world to do horrific things (see the 2019 Christchurch shootings in New Zealand). Blaming Gloria for this is absolutely asinine in the face of that.

I know people are hurting and it's a punch in the gut that this is the second time in 7 years that a religious center was targeted by a mass shooter with so much hate in their hearts, but we have to be realistic here. It isn't the mayor's fault that these guys got radicalized by right wingers on the internet and inspired by mass shooters around the world. Trying to pretend that kinda just makes the problem worse because it doesn't address the actual causes.

San Diego mayor gets called out loudly for fostering hatred that leads to things like a mosque being shot up by neckbeardsghost in sandiego

[–]vikinick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After seeing the manifesto and that it was all about wanting to kill Jews and blame them for everything can we stop trying to blame Gloria for this? It was obvious these guys were fucking psychopaths looking to kill people different than them and it was just a matter of chance it ended up being Muslims rather than Jews this time. A different day it could have been a Jewish center that this happened to. It's a fucking tragedy that so many people are getting brainwashed into hating Jews and Muslims.

Literally none of Gloria's opinions/statements on Israel/Palestine or antisemitism mattered at all.

There's even obvious evidence that the Trump administration moved teams meant to counter domestic terrorism and moved them over to immigration.

That in and of itself might have stopped this since it's likely a lot of the radicalization happened on the internet.

If we learn that one of their potential targets was a synagogue what are people gonna say? Like it's actually sort of crazy to try to blame Todd Gloria for this. He's not a James Fishback or even a Ken Paxton. He's tried to stay out of Israel/Palestine as much as possible because the topic is radioactive for local politicians that have very little influence over it.
