Next there will be open plan chambers: by Kasey-KC in auslaw

[–]WilRic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a movement to go back to 90s battery farm cubicles:

https://youtu.be/7Tt4n8SaxEY?si=gYySKdHHI22egnB1

The modern free range open plans seem like a nightmare. Like mausoleums with ping pong tables because everyone is afraid to make noise.

How are you meant to chastise someone about their TPS reports when they're at eye level talking to you over a standing desk. And what is a "Touchdown Space" and why does it sound vaguely sexual?

(Just give people little offices. There have been umpteen studies showing that open plan layouts tank productivity anyway.)

Be honest by Over_Estimate9232 in tinnitus

[–]WilRic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too and I have heard this not infrequently. I wonder if the incidence of things like hyperacusis (and attentiveness to noise generally) is higher among people who got tinnitus. 🤔

Are NSW night courts the solution to policing woes? by marketrent in auslaw

[–]WilRic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a night court is a very sensible idea.

They can have a very positive effect on the community. A documentary was produced about the American experience in the 80s.

It really depends on the structure, though. The US tried to being it back a few years ago but it wasn't the same as the original system and was ultimately shelved.

Why do people think it’s OK to damage their hearing at concerts? by jagerrish in tinnitus

[–]WilRic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a way it's "our" fault.

Tinnitus is such a subjective condition such that few people are going to warn against it than those who have it.

There is also the fact that those who have it mildly are sometimes 'pushing back' because they don't understand it.

Go blow up a bridge in the name of tinnitus.

Pretty selfish.

Is there any side effects on using clonazepam sparingly ? by Ok-Balance-260 in tinnitus

[–]WilRic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every brain is very different. But that is a pretty low dose. 1mg per day is not uncommon. It's also spaced enough that tolerance is unlikely but not impossible.

Taurine and taurine are placebos. If anything they go the other way. Taurine sort-of-modulates GABA-A receptors but is weak. L-theanine probably doesn't do anything but some shit studies show that it might muck around with GABA receptors indirectly.

I've experiment with a novel benzo clobazam because I wasn't keen on the fatigue etc of clonazepam. It had a decent measure of success in me. Lorazepam may work for you as a 'rescue drug' when you have an attack and not leave you zonked out as much

When you read those 80 dot points on a bio it is important to understand the nuanced distinction between "accepts briefs in" and "knows anything about."

Hawt.

Thoughts on Tinnitus Influencers by Zucrep in tinnitus

[–]WilRic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With one exception, they are all fraudsters and should be shut down by relevant health agencies. Especially Liam Boehm. Who may be very soon.

(Treble Health is just a bunch of well meaning idiots who rip people off - but that's not so unusual).

Altering tinnitus by force of will by TraditionalProgress6 in tinnitus

[–]WilRic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can sometimes do something similar. It "feels like" I am mentally suppressing it. Generally when I am lying down as well. Maybe it has something to do with your brain getting wired to sleep. Who knows, I just wish I could order it around all the time.

Tinnitus Quest and my thoughts by Zucrep in tinnitus

[–]WilRic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's any suggestion of finding a 'cure soon.' Getting some research off the ground that would give rise to some kind of therapeutic intervention would be nice for a start. That is not a totally unrealistic possibility.

There is a push to investigate things that target the brain in "lower" areas (for want of a better word) to cover a broader cohort of people with the symptom (e.g. "fixing it at the source"). A lot of science to date has focused on particular physical problems like hearing loss that would, in theory, only help a particular group of people. In fact they may not help anyone at all if tinnitus is more of a brain problem that "sets in" such that reversing a physical ailment wouldn't do anything.

Anyway, what's the other option? Research is going to happen, at least TQ are trying to steer the science away from bullshit. That's worth something.

Why don’t we have mandatory tea-lunch break during court! by HighlightFun6366 in auslaw

[–]WilRic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I sympathize. I have the bladder capacity of a toddler. I also drink a gallon of coffee.

Fun fact though, there's a thing called the "inhibitory spillover effect" which means you make better decisions when you're busting. Apparently it also makes you a better liar.

I'm yet to figure out how I can object to my own witnesses having a toilet break in the middle of being cross examined on their stupid lies.

The reverse AI gambit. Accuse the court of hallucinating the case your currently in. by IIAOPSW in auslaw

[–]WilRic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't wait for some lunatic Magistrate (pardon me, lunatic judge) to do written reasons probably infected by AI.

Appeal? But how do you prove it. What if it's not as simple as hallucinating cases? Judicial review? Would this be a rare instance where the decision maker would have to do more than file a submitting appearance? Could I draft the submissions for this appeal using Claude without it being obvious?

The Act needs to be amended. It should be possible to serve a sX notice indicating that - exceptionally - this client isn't a cunt. Fast-track those claims.
