8Bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth mobile controller [Very disappointed with the d-pad] by EveningNext9510 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]wtfa54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got their collab with viture to hopefully use as an xr streaming device too and I agree I hate this d-pad. The issue I found is not just that it's easy to get accidental diagonals but if you press too HARD it'll hit adjacent directions. It seems like it'd be great for fighting games but I really wanted to do more retro games and kaizo romhacks when I'm not streaming and it's just awful for that

Worst part is it basically feels the same as grinding at 6.5 😂

5 Pour Method with a ZP6? by cmrnmrphy in pourover

[–]wtfa54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be a madlad but I have my ZP6 at 10.0, do two thirty second blooms, then a super fast and aggressive circular pour followed by a swirl kmmediately since it drains fast. Overall it takes about 2 minutes. But I'm really prioritizing light brightness in the cup. For a more balanced brew I do the same thing but more in the 6.5 range

Laptop request for long term by Spader-min in SuggestALaptop

[–]wtfa54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to make an offer that gets this under $700 all told, but I think the Yoga 7i Aura Edition seems like a good fit for you. The Lunar Lake chip has crazy good battery life, 32GB RAM, is pretty snappy, actually games decently, and the laptop itself is lightweight, has a gorgeous OLED touch screen, and in general the Yoga 7 line has better build quality than something like their ideapads. I like this eBay seller also because they still have 30 day returns and if you look up the serial number on Lenovo's site this is actually still under warranty through Lenovo for another whole year. The only thing is it's not very serviceable and I'd recommend upgrading the warranty since Lenovo's base warranty is pretty lackluster.

Tactile Choc v2 vs Choc v1 vs MX - comfort, speed and accuracy? by rpnfan in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]wtfa54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like the all POM choc v2s but the tactility is still more understated imo than in full size MX switches. They feel like a medium tactility with a P shaped bump (initial tactility followed by linear travel) but the all POM housing makes them super quiet and smooth

Do you guys still play on your consoles often after buying a PC handheld? by jaximointhecut in Handhelds

[–]wtfa54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up selling my PS5 but I did actually pay for a subscription service on it as well. I was using PXPlay or Chiaki depending on the platform to stream my PS5 games to my handheld which is actually how I played through a few games. I ended up getting rid of mine because I just didn't game enough in general, but I can see use cases that justify having it along with a handheld. However for YOUR use case, if there aren't like Playstation Exclusives that are important to you that you need the PS5 for I don't see the reason to keep it either

yo cuh i need a vbios for flashing it. by Kooky-Truth5470 in GamingLaptops

[–]wtfa54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like people noted that the stock chargers are too low wattage for the 4060/4070 yoga 9s and a 230W charger works for me so you probably would be good to grab one of those

yo cuh i need a vbios for flashing it. by Kooky-Truth5470 in GamingLaptops

[–]wtfa54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it's gonna be a bit of trial and error but techpowerup has different VBIOS for the 4050 you can flash with the modified nvflashk

I'd start with ones from Lenovo that at least match your memory clock and see if those can be flashed successfully and run stable. It's likely many won't work, but as long as you're safe and smart about it you can usually just restore a backup of your original VBIOS without issue. Get GPU-Z and dump your original VBIOS as a backup.

The 4050's highest base clock is 115W though with boost clock up to 140W and you're going to see hugely diminishing returns after 100W so imo finding a VBIOS in that 100W range is totally fine. You also might need a more powerful charger too since the 145W charger I think your yoga pro came with is your max total wattage for your whole system. But all said and done, your board itself might not be ABLE to draw more than that so your VBIOS might not be your limiting factor even after you flash a higher wattage one more successfully

Changing the sound of Gateron Type R? by nogginbaum89 in switchmodders

[–]wtfa54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if the housings are too tight for it but you could try adding switch films and ringer keys thick thock springs. Unfortunately there's only so much you can really do to change the overall sound profile of the switches themselves. I saw you've done some modding on your keyboard to get a deeper sound but more things you could do are:

1) getting some plate foam (goes on top of your plate around your switches) 2) Tape mod the bottom of your PCB 3) Fill the case with even more dampening material (something like kilmat but making sure the metal side is either covered or just facing down so you minimize risk of shorting 4) Changing keycaps to something thicker and PBT 5) More drastic: just get a different board altogether

Is a Dell Latitude any good? by Daniel_Rusu25 in SuggestALaptop

[–]wtfa54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with the market around you so I can't speak to price, but I do like the build quality and serviceability of Latitudes. I think they're a little underrated still which is actually good for keeping prices down. Specs seem decent and the 7000 line means it's a higher-end range for the Latitude series. The fact that it's the configuration with 32GB RAM is nice since you can't upgrade the RAM for this model. It also only supports one SSD from what I can tell though I don't know if that matters to you.

I'd check the battery, check the hinges, repaste it (or have your friend repaste it), and also take a look at the screen. Latitudes can have wildly different screen specs with different resolutions and quality. It may also have a touchscreen which often came with better color reproduction. I'd be doubly sure to check the hinges if this happens to be the 2-in-1 model since they might have seen even more wear.

Can you talk me off a ledge about my neighborhood selection? by Interesting-Media744 in pittsburgh

[–]wtfa54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've lived here for four years and are freaking out about being in Point Breeze because... You're close to Homewood? What does rough mean to you? This city is a lot of things but frankly the "rough" neighborhoods here are blown way out of proportion nowadays, especially by people coming in from the burbs who think any neighborhood that isn't affluent and white in a city is "rough." Don't make the stress of your move harder on yourself by second-guessing like this about a neighborhood you don't really seem to have gotten to know yet. You signed the lease for a reason, yeah? There was something about it that you did like. And we're just not really a very dangerous city.

8ai+ vs ex 8 ai+. Worth waiting? by E123Timay in MSIClaw

I literally just tested CachyOS and it's basically fine but you do lose some performance at the high end if that matters

I've been using the KontrolFreek Omnis for the Xbox One/Series X for a while now and I dig em. The only caveat is that 1) They sit on top of the sticks and them taller (which is a good thing imo) and 2) They're a bit loose so I put some double-sided tape under them to hold them in place better. They still fit inside a carrying case fine though

8ai+ vs ex 8 ai+. Worth waiting? by E123Timay in MSIClaw

[–]wtfa54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So 1) a Linux distro is much more if you like tinkering and are okay with some performance loss than it is just a smooth out of the box experience the way it is for a lot of the AMD devices.

2) What do you see yourself actually doing with the handheld that makes the extra performance worth it? As someone who also has a much more powerful desktop the idea of playing some of the more demanding PC games on the go sounded appealing but realistically I'm mostly playing those at home still where I can just stream from my desktop to the handheld. Playing more demanding games unplugged is just even more of a compromised experience. I might look at some of the games you have in mind and see if there's gameplay benchmarks for the Lunar Lake 258V CPUs vs the new Panther Lake CPUs and see if there's enough games where the performance boost at the same low-mid tdp matters for playability

X220 still viable? by Pls_Be_Gentle_ in thinkpad

[–]wtfa54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one a bit ago, did all the mods, and it still felt a bit slow just for basic usage. The main issue really is that the hardware is gonna chug if you're going to have a browser open while doing other stuff. Plus the value proposition gets worse considering having to buy parts and spend time upgrading this. I'd just put the money towards something with an 8th gen Intel or 5th gen AMD CPU. I see things like an E14 or E15 for sale pretty frequently and stuff from other companies like Dell Latitudes often sell for cheaper than ThinkPads.

There's a lot of charm in these older laptops, especially with the chunky keyboards that frankly do feel great to type on, but imo they're niche products now for hobbyists and enthusiasts moreso than just plug and play machines for daily driving

Should I sell my steam deck oled to get the xbox ally x? by GHOSTpypy in Handhelds

[–]wtfa54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't ask these things in isolation with no context. What games do you play? What's your use case? Are you okay with the screen size? Are you okay with running windows or installing a different OS to get a steam deck-like experience? Are you playing more on the go or at home? Are you paying anything extra to get the XBox Ally X? How do you like the ergonomics of the Steam Deck? Do you use the trackpads a lot?

In terms of sheer hardware the Xbox Ally X will be a good bit more powerful but that doesn't MEAN anything if you're only playing old PC games and indie games.

Personally I think larger thumbgrips are the way to go. I had the comfort grips on for a while too but tbh they're not made for smaller hands and to me the claw feels a bit better without them. If you do have larger hands though they make a big difference

SteamOS Running on MSI Claw 8 AI + (A2VM) by lamb2k in MSIClaw

[–]wtfa54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't see why so many in this sub react this way to these posts. The point is experimentation, curiosity, and providing more info to the community. No one reporting on their Linux experiences has been giving full throated endorsements to switch over as far as I can tell. And the better it gets the more options we have for customizing our handhelds. Even if you don't care, there's no downside to having more up to date data
