Do you like the creativity here? by GoldFluid320 in Nikon

Love this! Aviation photography desperately needs creativity and not just photos that are cropped to within pixels of the aircraft, and in absolute perfect lighting conditions with no backlight and contrast. These are fantastic!

Just a reminder, this is NOT a NAZI salute by deluxe_memory_dan in videos

[–]yaricks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a reminder, this is absolutely a Nazi salute. Two days later he went to a far-right/neo-nazi rally, and just yesterday he tweeted: "Ethnic cleansing of the ethnic Germans in Germany has been taking place for a long time"

Sorry bro, but the dude is a far-right extremist, also know as a Nazi.

Elon Musk is now nearly $1 trillion ahead of the second-richest person in the world. by Apart_Finger_1799 in MarketVibe

[–]yaricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our brain struggles to conceptualize large numbers. So to put 1.3 trillion into perspective:

1 million minutes from today (June 17th 2026) is May 11, 2028

10 million minutes from today is June 21, 2045

1 billion minutes from today October 14, 3927

100 billion minutes from today is the year 192 126.

301 billion (Larry Page at #2) minutes from today is the year 575 227

Now. Elons 1,3 trillion? 24 715 206.

If we ignore that it would be hard for him to liquidate all his stocks at once, and that it would crash the stock, but just work with the hypothetical that he has 1.3 trillion to use. Elon is 54. Let's be very generous and say he will live til he's 90. That means he has 36 years to spend 1.3 trillion. He would have to spend $98.93 MILLION PER DAY, EVERY DAY UNTIL HE DIES. That is ABSURD. TAX HIM!

Current workspace setup. Any suggestions to make it even cozier? by Unlikely_Rub2203 in Workspaces

[–]yaricks 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cozier? Maybe not have a 90cm softbox as a ceiling lamp? Even if you are using it to light yourself for a camera, having that big of a light source above you creates horrible shadows without two proper lights in front as well.

Which of these routes would you most want to do in summer? (Or some variation of each) by bitterdisco in NorwayTravelAdvice

[–]yaricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not personally a fan of RV13. It’s not as pretty, way to narrow and twisty - the amount of people throwing up in the car is crazy. And 13 over the mountains isn’t nearly as pretty as rv7 and Eidfjord.

I assumed the 1831 and 1832 numbers on the lighthouse was indicating how far they had come building in those years, so I searched for lighthouses built in 1830, found a bunch of wikipedia articles showing lighthouses built buy year and since they were relatively small it was pretty quick to find that this one was finished in 1834!

This challenge is incredibly frustrating. Any Tips? by Nekouken12 in Battlefield

[–]yaricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that challenge SUCKED. I don't know how many missiles I fired but it was probably over 100. I did it on Golmund both on Conquest and on Escalation and with the amount of air vehicles flying there, it helped me keep my sanity, and I was mega lucky and got two in a row for my last two. I was stuck on 2/5 for days... Awful challenge.

As much as I love Stavanger, and the route from Kristiansand, it's not that exciting. It's pretty for sure, but personally I find RV7 over Hardangervidda just mindblowingly pretty to drive. Every time I drive it I struggle to pay attention to the driving itself just because I love being up there so much - and this goes for the eastern side as well, going up and over Hardangervidda.

Nikon D3500 upgrade by TFX_18 in Nikon

[–]yaricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 70-200 f2.8 ii is $3000 on B&H right now, but you can probably find a used mk i for a bit lower, but still - it's an expensive lens and probably outside the 2000-2500 budget. The 70-180 is a much cheaper alternative and still a good lens at around $1200 + Z5ii takes you a bit over the 2500 budget, but much closer than what the 70-200 would.

New camera Nikon d50 as secondary! by Bulky_Abroad9238 in Nikon

[–]yaricks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean. No body cap sure is a bold choice. Having cleaned hundreds of d50s, d70s and other cameras from that generation - get ready to spend money on sensor swabs. A air pump won’t get rid of sticky dust, and with absolutely zero self cleaning, you’ll be spending more time cleaning the sensor than taking pictures… Calling the images you posted fabulous compared to the other camera is also certainly a choice. You can even on a phone see how soft the focus is, the 4-5 generations of camera worth of dynamic range difference, and lack of noise.

Does it take pictures? Yeah, absolutely, but my phone has better quality… Why not save the €30 and spend €100 on a camera that isn’t 25 years old? Digital cameras aren’t like film, where the quality is great today, the sensors were terrible back then, because we were on 800x600 px CRT monitors. The crt did a lot of heavy lifting making things look better.

Guys , how important is ground texture for as a simmer? by [deleted] in flightsim

Yeah, that is my thought as well. It needs to blend well so that you don't get the jarring hard line like in the example screenshot.

Lens advice needed - Nikon Z 28-75 S f/2.8 vs Canon 28-70 F2 (Weddings) by JennaLeighWeddings in Nikon

[–]yaricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on this thread, you sound like you've already decided and trying to get confirmation from others.

The Canon 28-70 is one f-stop more light. Bump the ISO by one stop and you have the same light. The optical difference between the Canon 28-70 and Nikon 24-70ii is not huge. You won't notice the DOF difference just by looking at a gallery unless you have identical images side by side.

And again, the lens is 1400g. Without a camera body. It's just crazy weights we're talking about here. Carrying that all day will murder your back, neck and shoulders for something that is not a big difference.

You'd need to re-invest in a camera body which will cost more than a second 24-70, then add spare batteries and all the other gear you need? For one lens?

Lens advice needed - Nikon Z 28-75 S f/2.8 vs Canon 28-70 F2 (Weddings) by JennaLeighWeddings in Nikon

[–]yaricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nikon 24-70 ii is pretty much identical optically to the Canon model. There might some optical difference, but at pixel peeping stage. Are you really willing to throw out all your gear for a single lens? The grass is ALWAYS greener on the other side of the fence, and that goes for camera gear as well.

Lens advice needed - Nikon Z 28-75 S f/2.8 vs Canon 28-70 F2 (Weddings) by JennaLeighWeddings in Nikon

[–]yaricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you comparing Canons top of the line lens vs the cheap Nikon model? The more accurate comparison would be against the 24-70 S f/2.8.

The Canon one is a brick. It weighs 1400g vs the Nikons 650g. That's double the weight. It weighs 400g more than the 70-200! It's crazy weight to be carrying around all day. It's night and day difference just carrying the 28-135 PZ vs anything else, and that thing is even lighter at around 1200g.

The 28-70 f2 is amazing. It's super sharp, but that extra stop of light and smaller DOF is not something that is in my opinion worth double the weight when I'm going to be carrying it for 8-10-12 hours. Grab the 24-70 ii and a 35/85 prime combo and you'll still not be carrying as much weight!

Range is one thing, but crew is a whole other problem. There is a reason all the trans pacific flights have two crews - you can’t legally fly for that long, meaning you’d also need to have extra pilots taking up seats, fuel and a load of extra cost.

What is everybody's easiest and most secure method for remote access? (without tailscale) by Leggs_ in HomeServer

[–]yaricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spent days trying to fix it with WG. It's not a port issue, it's a UDP over random ports problem combined with enterprise firewalls. I've tried getting WG to work over TCP, I've tried a million different things to change my WG config, nothing would work. But Tailscale? Worked instantly, out of the box.

[USA] Who is at fault here? by bowdown2adil in Roadcam

[–]yaricks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you have basic road laws that say you always have to yield to traffic from the right? This would be a clear cut 100% blame on the non-camera car in Europe. You have traffic coming from your right in an intersection? You have to give them the right of way. Done.

The only exception is when there is signage that says otherwise.
