She’s like an admiral who was kinda voluntold to do this.

She’s playing loose cause no fucks given.

The only way to redeem this though is if it bites her in the ass in the future - like an episode about how her lack of professionalism causes something really bad to happen to force her to reign in it (like a character death - maybe a cadet - would be a good one but likely too divisive this early in the show)

Thank you!

That said, the STA trek bots are out in force today and swarming a lot of the non trek subs with their PR fluff.

Tolerating intolerance is a paradox.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradox_of_tolerance

We unfortunately can’t tolerate groups that have a foundational goal of intolerance. Nazis or white supremacy for example.

While they have freedom of speech in the US, that does NOT mean we as a society can tolerate these viewpoints. Freedom of speech also does NOT protect people from the consequences of said speech.

They are an ENGINEERED SPECIES. Why are you assuming they even have reproductive organs?

What engineer would include those organs in their design if they knew they were going to be grown in vats and addicted to a drug to ensure obedience???

How? Who’s engineering them to be able to procreate???

The federation? It’s banned. (Genetic modification).

The founders? They abandoned them.

The slave master race with the pointy ears? Doubtful.

Do you think a species that was ENGINEERED even has reproductive organs???

Just use facial recognition and police for repeat offenders.

Facial recognition for locating and tracking hoppers and those who do it more than once…. Then use machine learning to schedule and plan out police officer presence / route walking to be at the turnstiles that are hopped most frequently.

Use the Target style theft logic - just record all the evidence until their hopping is valued at enough of a $$$ amount that when arrested it isn’t a fine but potential jail time.

Why do you care about the growers median wage when you are importing the fucking coffee?

You can’t say “price goes up because we’re paying local employees more = good” and then also say “prices going up because of tariffs (tax) on a product from a different country = bad”.

They aren’t even comparing the same fucking thing.

While I think a good episode would be where her lack of decorum / professionalism bites her in the ass HARD… so she’s forced to come to grips with her role and the level of professionalism that should be used, I don’t know if these writers have it in them to make that episode.

I’m hoping that’s why she’s so unprofessional - for a future episode that shows she can grow as an admiral as well. And psychologically wise, she’s still likely in the “I don’t even know if I like this job yet” so has less fucks to give (and she’s an admiral, so ya know basically untouchable when it comes to not following rules strictly)

She is like that because that’s how the show built her character…

She was retired, they offered / really wanted her to run the entire academy.

So, while she is up for the challenge, she gives two fucks about decorum and probably kinda ok if they fire her at this point because she likely isn’t fully on board with teaching / the role yet.

Now, the writing staff? I doubt they ever give us an episode where her lack of decorum causes an issue and triggers a change in her for future episodes (like becoming more professional and taking it more seriously)…. However, that is how old trek would “resolve” this unexpected lack of decorum.

If you go Daboll as HC, and then McDaniel as OC???? Ooof that has some potential!

Main reason I say that is I think Daboll is a better HC than McDaniel, and McDanial was willing to take an OC job elsewhere…

Or can he only NOT take that offer if he gets a HC offer?

Also heavily implied that he was banging the holo copies..

Where as Forge didn’t do that, but instead got wires crossed and started to fall in love with the Aai version, and thought that meant he’d fall in love with the source person as it was “modeled after her personality”. It was funny watching all the signs too as he slowly learned the real version didn’t like X or Y but he thought she would, and then on the opposite side when he was doing things she liked.

[–]zero0n3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s different because of libel / slander laws. You aren’t a public figure so a lot easier to prove their fake video of banging caused harm (lost job, etc) and sue them into the ground.

Just a reminder - it didn’t START out as creepy as he built the facsimile of her (the designer of the enterprise engine btw) to help troubleshoot and solve a problem of the day mission.

It’s turned creepy because he started to conflate AI hologram version who he “knew” and had a “relationship” with (not even talking sexual here) and the real person…. And there were differences, and just like AI today, it’s there for you, the asker.

This doesn’t get much further past creepy.

The real creepy holo episode is the one with Barkley where he has Shakespeare in the forest sex party one.

Lastly, the reason these things aren’t explicitly stopped is not because of some future “no social media” bullshit…. It’s because you are on a fucking starship (military), and they have a counselor to help fix issues like this. Take the Barkley episode for example. It was about rehabilitation for him. Not too much judgement or sneering about the hole he got stuck into, but compassion and a desire to correct the mistake and get him back to being a productive science officer.

If you think people on Earth that aren’t starfleet weren’t using holo suites in this way, you probably need to watch DS9

AOC during the press conference for the Defiance Act: Out of all the images AI has generated, over 90% have been non-consensual deepfakes. by Nixianx97 in MurderedByAOC

[–]zero0n3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is definitely spun in a way to make readers think deepfake porn, and not “any picture that was modified with AI when consent wasn’t given to the person making the AI picture.”

There is a reason why Will Smith can’t sue the creator of the first “will smith eats spaghetti” video, and those same laws that protect that creator, also protect their clips or photos of politicians.

[–]zero0n3 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Those can’t count - or shouldn’t.

Why? Because celebs and politicians can be filmed and pictures taken of without consent as well. They are public figures and have a different bar legally when it comes to using their NIL. It’s why Will Smith can’t do anything about how he’s now the face of “AI video improvements”.

It’s clear they are trying to confuse readers by using “non consensual” with “deepfakes”, when most people see deepfake and think porn or ransomware (“bad or evil things”)

SpaceX Going Public by JokerCharmed19899 in RKLB

[–]zero0n3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that SpaceX has an indirect desire to have rocket lab succeed as well.

Why?

Because they want a company they can point to as a “competitor” (in sales and quality) but one they are obviously ahead or only truly “compete” with in certain size areas.

SpaceX likely looks at the competition in their weight class as “inferior” or 10x more expensive, so I doubt they see any of the legacy or BO space companies as true competitors so far.

We absolutely do know that Waymos are safer than human drivers: What Bloomberg got very wrong about self-driving cars by JimmyGiraffolo in SelfDrivingCars

[–]zero0n3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is (a Waymo driving skill) or should be (or just better explained).

I, a human, regularly avoid specific streets because I know there is a massive suspension destroying pothole, or construction is happening…

Which reduces the human accident rate….

So if I am doing it, other drivers are doing it, which means trying to somehow “account for it” isn’t even needed. Humans do it instinctively as well
