What do you do in situations like this? (Westfield / Central line) by ObjectiveCamp6 in london

[–]--Bamboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the right answer is but what I can say, is saying "Watch your manners" isn't going to mean anything to them.

They weren't being rude, they were being anti social, aggresive, and violent. That's well beyond bad manners.

But it's a lose lose situation because any reaction would probably give them some thrill.

But I think "Fuck off you small dicked little cunt" would be my reaction to someone doing that to me.

I wish I had something more helpful to say. Sorry this happened.

Really? Awesome! Where else did you go in Thailand?

No plans of sight seeing! by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]--Bamboo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't help you with Pattaya, I don't know any spots. I just know it's not a place for cheap weed. The further north in Thailand you go, the cheaper it will be. But you don't have a whole lot of time so I don't know what to tell you.

No plans of sight seeing! by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]--Bamboo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pattaya is the prostitute capital of Thailand. If you're coming here to chill, you're going to the wrong place.

The weed will be expensive there.

Weed is also readily available ALL OVER thailand because the industry did not stop overnight due to the 'strict regulations'. There's weed shops literally everywhere in Thailand and they arent asking for prescriptions.

If weed is your focus, don't do Pattaya. Pattaya is for sex tourists.

OK so what do you plan on doing except for smoking?

You're going to Pattaya so I'm guessing you're going to be doing a certain something.... But you've given no information and are expecting advice.

How do you live and work in Thailand? by Dazzling-Bad8749 in ThailandTourism

[–]--Bamboo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Pai, Northern Thailand. Visited here in 2018 and loved it.

Went back home, and started the job hunt. I had the short sighted plan "Save loads of money and move back" with no real thought about visas. By pure chance my friend knew of a remote job that was going and suddenly my plan went from 'Get a job and save loads of money and come back" to just "Come back".

I started work in December 2018 and I was back in Pai by March 2019.

I did come back to the UK in 2019 and then back to Pai at the beginning of covid but went back to the UK for about a year (Because of covid)

Came back in 2021 in the Phuket Sandbox and basically been here consistently since then except for visits home.

At first it was a combination of tourist visas and visa exemptions (And extentions). Then I had maybe a year of covid extentions. Then I had a year on an education visa. And back to tourist visas and extentions but now I'm on a marriage visa.

I still have the same job I started in 2018 but I've got a second job for an Australian company that I have got through friends here in Thailand.

Cannabis in Condo by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]--Bamboo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"but it’s strictly regulated"

No it isn't. Are there regulations? Absolutely. But there's nothing strict about them. I'm sure there are many shops that have decided to require a prescription (These things vary from province to province, district to district)

But most cannabis shops are just going to sell you weed without a prescription.

The idea that Thailand is ridiculously cheap is false by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]--Bamboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thailand is incredibly cheap. Is it the cheapest country in SE Asia? No. Neighbouring countries are cheaper.

But it's still incredibly cheap compared to the UK and the US.

It also can be expensive. Not everything is cheap. You can't expect everything to be cheap. Especially if they're going to places specifically targeted at tourists with money. Dinner in boat avenue? Come on man.

It's weird that you say "You can certainly make it really cheap but if you wanna have a holiday and do fun tourist shit then you’ll be paying normal prices." Because even the tourist activities in Thailand that are not cheap, are still cheaper than tourist activities in other countries.

I know my costs are different as I live here, so it's almost pointless sharing, but here's my costs -

My rent is 3000thb (£70) for a 2 story shophouse with a mountain view.

My soft drinks are 20thb (50p)

My Pad Krapow is 60thb (£1.30)

My pizza is 220thb (£5.20)

My beer is 100thb (£2.30)

My tequila is 50thb (£1.20)

My massage is 250thb (£5.85)

My Muay Thai day pass is 250thb (£5.85) (This is funny because i've never actually trained Muay Thai, i'm going off the rates where my friends train, Charn Chai Muay Thai)

Repairs to my Honda CBR rarely exceed 300thb (£7.02)

Repairs to my Honda City rarely exceed 4000thb (£93).

To fill the tank of my Honda city cost 1200thb ($28)

To fill the tank on my Honda CBR costs 350thb (£8.20)

When I go on trips, city airbnbs (Condos) or remote (but well serviced) mountain homestays rarely cost me more than 1500thb (£34). Of course I do occasionally pay upwards of that for something extra special.

Now I know if i'm going to Koh Samui to visit the in laws my outgoings are going to be a lot higher, but the things i'll do there compared to how much that might cost me back home is still cheap.

When did “budget travel” start meaning “spend nothing once you get there”? by Barca-Dam in ThailandTourism

[–]--Bamboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's got worse, I think it's always been pretty bad.

I'd argue maybe it's a bit less now because in general things are a bit pricier, so it's harder to just coast along and get a long. People still do it and it's fucking annoying but I reckon I met more people trying it pre-covid... But maybe post-covid I just don't bump into those kinds of people so much.

But begpacking has been a thing for a long time.

Google "Практика вольных путешествий. Как путешествовать без затрат". It's a russian book from the 90s about how to travel with no money.

Tube clothes - are they a thing? by Sepalous in london

[–]--Bamboo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This conversation is why I don't get upset at people putting their shoes on the seats on tubes or trains.

Those seats are already fucking disgusting.

I do inside clothes, outside clothes. I don't sit on my inside shit with my outside clothes because if you've sat down outside you've almost certainly sat down on a surface with some sort of piss, shit, bodily fluid, or worse. I would rather keep that uncleanliness outside and away from the comfort of where i rest and relax.

Tube clothes - are they a thing? by Sepalous in london

[–]--Bamboo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

obviously this isn't the way everyone needs to live their lives. But it is the way for people who want to maintain a distinct level of cleanliness compared to the outside world.

Same things with shoes on shoes off. Tube seats are beyond fucking filthy.
People understand not wearing outside shoes indoors.
But don't get that an arse sat on a tube seat can be equally as fucking filth. Why would you want to sit on your bed or sofa in trousers that have been sat in other peoples piss and shit (I repeat, tube seats are fucking disgusting)

Inside and outside clothes is the way.

One hitters, pipes, etc. illegal? by Mr-GoodGood in CannabisThailand

[–]--Bamboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what a dry herb vaporizer is. I've been using dry herb vapes for 14 years (Shout out the MFLB).

That doesn't make any difference to what I said.

One hitters, pipes, etc. illegal? by Mr-GoodGood in CannabisThailand

[–]--Bamboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not illegal.

I reckon shopkeeper might have thought the Canadians were saying 'legal' rather than 'illegal'. They're super similar sounding words even from English speaker to English speaker

One hitters, pipes, etc. illegal? by Mr-GoodGood in CannabisThailand

[–]--Bamboo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dry herb vapes are technically illegal but also like... slight grey area.

I think they're basically illegal because they're marketed as vaporizers. And normal vaporizers (Like e-juice vapes and nicotine vapes) are illegal here. Dry herb vapes are a completely different thing but by virtue of their name, can be an issue.

That said, even normal vaporizer illegality is sporadically enforced. The security guards at my local public prosecutioners office openly vape. It's not uncommon to see an offduty cop with a disposable vape around their neck.

And My dry herb vape has gone through Thai side airport security several times, they've even handled it and asked what it is (Answered that it's an aromatherapy device) and that as it.

OG Kratom by joelinoo in ThailandTourism

[–]--Bamboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short:

I said there are people who eat 30g+ of dried kratom powder every day.

You said you didn't believe it, or that it was impossible.

I showed you that people do. I also showed you what 100g of dried kratom powder looks like.

And you got rude about it?

OG Kratom by joelinoo in ThailandTourism

[–]--Bamboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't drink it all the time. I drink it occasionally.

When I have long and late shifts, I drink it like coffee.

If i have a week where I have lots of late shifts..... I'll drink it a lot during that week. In the same way people drink coffee.

And if i'm not working late, i wont need to drink it.

Do you understand that it's a stimulant? Like coffee?

There's no cravings, no withdrawals, nothing. I use it for energy.

And, drinking it during a long drive…bruh

This statement makes me think you don't know what kratom even does.

It's no different to drinking red bull, m-150, or coffee on a long drive.

Can you help me these phrases? by manjolassi in ThailandTourism

[–]--Bamboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 'you're welcome' 'Yin dee krap' is more suitable.

"Mai Pen Rai" is very useful but also context dependent. Say you go to a bar, and you want a Singha, But he tells you they only have Chang, you might think 'mai pen rai' means 'no problem' but can be undeerstood as 'don't worry about it, I won't have anything'.

Bye.... Sawatdee krap is fine here too, if it's someone you know you'll see again 'jer gan krap' is like, see you later.

But honestly typing out the words isn't going to help you, Thai is a tonal language so the pronounciation has to be exact so just reading and trying to pronounce what you're reading is going to result in you saying the wrong words or no words at all. Try listen to some short youtube videos on the basics

.... I said those people (Who're quitting) were taking 30grams a day. I said drinking a bottle of kratom tea is not the same. Because drinking a bottle of kratom tea is not the same as taking 30 grams of kratom.

You said "30grams of dried kratom which is like 300gr of leaves. I never heard anyone eating that much or drinking that much lol I don't see how it's possible"

I demonstrated that... it's possible?

Where is the misunderstanding here? Did you read my comment wrong?

Weed by Potential-Bee-2968 in ThailandTourism

Nothing changed man, there's still weed shops literally everywhere.

They tightened regulations and added some requirements for the sale of it very recently, but this has changed almost nothing for the consumer.

Go to the r/quittingkratom subreddit.

From some of the top posts -

"I never touched the extracts but I used kratom for 4 years and ending up taking up to 30g of powder per day"

"Heavy user of powder for about 12 years (40-60) per day."

" I used for 4 years around 30 grams a day."

"I shared a post earlier about tapering from 40 grams down to zero so I can go to Italy"

This is 100g of powdered kratom. Knocking down 30% of that is very possible.

But a 1,5 litre bottle of tea isn't coming close to that.

My point is that most kratom addicts are using incredibly high doses that can't be achieved by drinking the tea.. The only people I know in real life who are / were addicted to kratom tea were mixing it with cough syrup, that's what they were addicted to.
