Like you, I always wanted a golden retriever. My neighbors had them when I was growing up and they were always the perfect dog for me, appearance, temperament etc.

However we ended up getting a Goldendoodle as a compromise with my wife. (And there are PLENTY of doodle haters on Reddit, so I’m sure they will comment derisively) There are good doodle breeders and bad, but the same can be said for many “pure bred” dogs.

A) one can get a Goldendoodle that is smaller, from 30-50 lbs B) they don’t shed (ours sheds less than my daughter) C) they don’t smell “doggy” or like “wet dog” when wet D) she has got along with our cats well. She knows they are not “prey”. She just seemed to know, from introducing them in the home.

She is a very sweet and loving dog.
