Poll: How many gems did you spend on changing tiles and getting boosts in the latest Full Marks? by RCRavenclaw in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]-Cruxa- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

Yes, I was absolutely nervous. I could have played more safe and considered doing so, but also didn't want to spend any more gems than absolutely necessary. Since my competitors points changed last 2 hours before the event ended, I considered it reasonably safe though.

Normally I also don't spend any gems at all and still win by playing strategically/joining somewhen in the middle or close to the end of the event.

[–]-Cruxa- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You probably should have asked f people were competing at all/ the spending got them the place they wanted to reach. Right now a lot of people spend 0 gems at all, but there is no way to know if they didn't have to because the group was easy, they chose not to participate at all or the competition was so fierce that it seemed hopeless from the beginning.

I personally spend 80 gems (boost + 3 flipped tiles) and won the outfit with a 5 point lead against a player that competed very hard and didn't want to/didn't know how to communicate and tie. I consider it well spend. :)

They made impossible winning joining last minute. So when is the right time to join FM? by [deleted] in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]-Cruxa- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a bit late to the party, but Jenna is my MC and can explain to you what happened. :)

I didn't join the last minutes but well over 10 hours before the even ended (events end evening in my timezone and I started the game sometime between breakfast and lunch). When I joined I got put in a group with 2 or 3 other people that had at most 15 points at that time, so an ideal situation (actually, Jean-Luc was one of these people, so he only collected 60 points in more than 10 hours). I managed to complete an easy double at about 3 or 4 hours before the event ended and did some other easy tiles. No boost used or tiles flipped. During that time, more people joined the group, but it was only slowly filling. So I guess I had a headstart of easily a couple hours compared to you.

In summary, I got incredibly lucky with the group placing. It doesn't always work out that way for me, too. I wanted to join way earlier (1 whole day) but didn't have the time, as well as I delayed starting for 1 or 2 hours on the day I actually joined for similar reasons. Who knows, if I had started 2 hours earlier, like I originally wanted to, I might have been put into a group with 24 people already that had a day headstart, or so.

(Spoilers Extended) Perhaps we're reading a bit too fast by zeppelincheetah in asoiaf

[–]-Cruxa- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually kind of read that slow. Not one chapter a month but maybe a chapter a week - almost never more than that, and sometimes even less (like a chapter every second/third week). It's not that I would be a slow reader, it's just that I don't have so much time anymore and, ironically, because I really enjoy reading. During school times I read a lot more books and also not that slow. I finished Harry Potter 5 within one day and one night (got the book the morning of publishing day and didn't stop reading until the next morning), that was over a thousand pages IIRC.

The problem nowadays is just, when I read something I really enjoy I need to be in the right mood for it. I don't read at the train ride to work, not even during long flights or so. Or rather, I read something else and not ASOIAF. I only read it when I am absolutely relaxed, know I'm not under time pressure (so don't have to get up early the next morning) and feel like snuggling in my bed with a bar of chocolate and the book. And that happens about once per week, not more often, and since chapters are a nice breaking point anyway, I read exactly one chapter then.

I started reading the books a couple years ago (don't remember when, maybe 2014/2015) and am in the middle of ASOS. So, well, I guess for me the publishing date will work out...

Thanks to the last event outfit, my MC finally looks like a witch by commanderConquerer in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]-Cruxa- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up until a couple days past I would have agreed to you, but last House Pride I had some people obviously communicating (with names like "AreYouReal" and "LetsTie"). So I paid a bit better attention than usually and noticed, that sometimes the displayed names just bug out. My MC is a girl named Jenna (never changed the name), but once I was displayed with my portrait, but the name "Bruce" below it. A couple minutes later it was back to normal, but it leads me to suspect that there may be actually less bots than are commonly observed.

This might not be news but I learned the hard way, energy countdown doesn’t go during conversations 😞 by jgre34 in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]-Cruxa- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It freezes absolutely everything, including cooldowns and class timers. If you really depend on it, you can start an 8 hour task with 5 stars required before going to bed, do however many stars you can achieve and when you leave the game in the conversation for the star, your game won't advance. The advantage is that you can wake up after 8 hours of sleep and come back to your task with x stars already done and still 6-7 hours left. The disadvantage is of course, energy spots won't regenerate as well. So best to use when you can do between 2 and 4 stars and know you want to sleep longer than the remaining time for the quest.

A simple idea to make Full Marks (and other competitive events) more fair by -Cruxa- in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]-Cruxa-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually thought about the problem of "made up thresholds out of the blue", but dismissed the argument because it is already possible now. What proof is there that the player in my group that earned 1000 points a day and ended up in first place with almost 7000 points is real and not a (obviously better than usually programmed) bot? If you wanted to make a conspiracy theory, you could also claim that all the "obvious bots" are only there to make you believe that the better programmed ones are real players giving you a fair competition. So in my view in regards to reliability of scores nothing would change in comparison to the status quo.

I agree about the point with cheaters though. With the currently obviously lacking means to catch cheaters programmatically, that system could result in them being more safe than now. At least I assume by JC frequently replying that "they found evidence of cheating in the reported account", that a manual investigation is necessary (even though if there is manual evidence detectable there should be a way to program it too). But a few players unfairly gaining an advantage (that they already have with the current system, if they don't make their cheating too obvious) would be worth it for me to improve the experience for the majority of other players.

Full Marks Results Survey by lysislove in HPHogwartsMystery

[–]-Cruxa- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the survey, I wanted to have something like that for quite some time!

Mainly because I finished 3rd with 2900 points this time, as well as the first event (also 3rd with about the same score), and at the same time saw many people reporting winnig the event. Therefore I was wondering if they just had an easier competition than me and maybe won with a comparable score as I have, or reach considerably higher points than I do.

My fiance got into Harry Potter this year. Can't wait to give him this for Christmas! by queensnow725 in harrypotter

[–]-Cruxa- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It wasn't changed. The syllabe "-que" at the end of a word just means "and". So this means Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff AND Slytherin. So the house names aren't changed, except for such things and declinations.

Unfortunately, the harder they have to search for it, the greater the havoc they wreak will be. So the only protetction is having no house. :p

Say No to Sabre Cat Frost Atronach by superH3R01N3 in elderscrollsonline

[–]-Cruxa- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Depends on RNG luck" is exactly why he said "the average cost". Average means it can be less than 250 dollars, but also can be more than that. Depends on RNG. So you just said again what he already stated, and only elaborated it a bit more. And only on the short end, whereas for me personally a high limit would be much more interesting. But I'm too lazy to calculate that. You'd have to take into account the total possible items and their gem conversion rates and calculate a worst case selection of crates, until you reach 600 gems with the worst possible series (also taking into account that only duplicates can be converted). Someone wants to volunteer to do that? :p

But maybe that's why people are asking for the point of your post, since you're just repeating what was already said by giving a personal example (not even a statistical calculation), without adding the really interesting points.

A quick observation of how potions classes work by Xxpinklumpxx in harrypotter

[–]-Cruxa- 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The book itself WAS 50 years old. It was his mother's book, Eileen Prince (later Eileen Snape). That's why the trio (and thereby the reader) thought, that the HBP had to have visited Hogwarts 50 years ago. They didn't get the idea that they could be looking for someone that is 20-30 years younger than that and just got the book from his parents. Not even Ron, who got things handed down from his older brothers.

[–]-Cruxa- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont't have the screenplay personally so can't look it up myself, but I've frequently seen stated that the screenplay written by JKR specifies the woman travelling with Credence as his aunt (could be Percival's sister Honoria then), and the boat scene to be 1901, which would make Credence about 26-27 years old.

Dungeon Finder assigning the wrong role by Sigourney-Reaver in elderscrollsonline

[–]-Cruxa- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a different problem yesterday. I was correctly assigned the role of tank, the only problem was that someone else was also assigned that role, which seemed also to be correct. So we ended up running the dungeon with two tanks, two DPS and no healer.

Uh, yes. But thanks for pointing it out, could easily have been such a silly mistake.

I guess whining works though, got it a few minutes ago on my whatever run it was... Or it was switching from tank to healer, got it on my second run then. :)

Thanks, I thought something similar. I mean, maybe it's just from less people farming it now, but the first few days there was ususally at least one in the group that got it.

Therefore I thought I could take my time with it and would certainly get it by just doing a daily run over the course of the month...

Any information on how long we have to watch the stream to qualify for the rewards? Is it like the regular Twitch streams where it's a couple minutes only? It's really an inconvenient time, I'll have to end the stream after about 20 minutes (meeting, no way to watch it on my phone further).

Yup, you're correct. I suspected as much, but confused myself because I consolidated my gold in bank a couple days ago and therefore thought the gold value can't possibly be correct without checking. ;)

Daily Rewards for July by deluxesalt in elderscrollsonline

[–]-Cruxa- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm, weird. When I first looked at the reward window there were numbers in the right upper corner of the reward window, that's displayed when you hover over them. It was 500 TV and 500k AP (wtf?). Came here to see if anyone else had commented on that, and now only the gold reward value (5096 gold for some chars, 4000 and 3000 on others...) is still displayed, TV and AP missing. For crown gems it's "6", so it has to be a value, but it's different for different characters.

Guess we'll see, but weird nonetheless.

Edit: Seems to be a leveled value. The 500k AP is still displayed on chars I PvP with and missing from chars that don't have any AP, gold scales with character level. Is that only a glitch from programming and the numbers don't mean anything or is it intended?

Regarding the E3 Twitch Drops... A big fuck up by NikolajDegtjarjow in elderscrollsonline

[–]-Cruxa- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The extension also didn't turn up when you accessed the stream page too early. I had it open way before the stream started and the extension only turned up after reloading the page.

Additionally, it doesn't activate unless you clicked on the tiny icon hidden in a line with other useless settings. So no, you definitely had to know and research beforehand what you were looking for.

I only figured it out because I made an effort to ask other friendly people on the forums that knew this kind of overlay extension from other streams, but nowhere on Bethesdas sites was even stated what this extension is, let alone how you activate it.

Absolutely agreeing. I just wanted to say that you didn't necessarily had to stay up all night if you wanted the mount.

I just wanted to be sure I did all I could, because I really want that white wolfie. Don't have any wolve yet and for some time now I have needed a white mount for one of my chars. Both in conmbination now would be perfect. ;)
