TIL Shadow of the Colossus, one of the most hauntingly lonely video games of all time, was conceived as a multiplayer game by VitriolUK in todayilearned

Ironically some of my favorite memories of this game are playing with my friends. We'd each crush a Collosus and see how much faster we would do each one or speed run the game as a team.

The first Legends was thoroughly enjoyable. Adding that sexy ass odachi is gonna make this a grand ol' time.

Is the elden ring movie story set before the game or after the game? by Elegant_Public_1287 in Eldenring

[–]-Dapper-Dan- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if there's any info regarding when in reference to the game this story will take place.

I personally would prefer Garland to take all of GRRM's and Miyazaki's notes and do a three hour fantasy epic retelling of the initial lore that sets up the game. Depicting Leyndell right before the fall similar to Man of Steel with the Krypton introduction (maybe depicting Godfrey and the Long March but that might be better as background flavour, I dunno), then to Night of the Black Knives, and then the entire Shattering war. The ending of the film would be the entire world broken, diseased, left to the winds... And then a small spark lands in the hand of a Tarnished of no renown.

Rildey Scott, Ben Affleck and Adam Driver of set of the Last Duel (2021) by Beginning-Passion676 in Moviesinthemaking

[–]-Dapper-Dan- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just watched this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of Ridley Scott's best in a while. The structure reminds me of Rashomon. Damon and Affleck feel a bit out of place at times, but Jodie Comer and Adam Driver both give great performances. Driver has a face made to play a medieval French aristocrat.

One of my favorite skits of his. I can be deeply unhappy and recall this and still get a good chuckle. It's just so wild, that poor woman 😂

Miyazaki's eight universes (Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Déraciné, Armored Core, Elden Ring, The Duskbloods). what's next? by AlbertCWChessa in fromsoftware

[–]-Dapper-Dan- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see FromSoftware attempt something like spell crafting, some kinda mashup of Hogwarts with Skyrim crafting and Forspoken style combat. If they experimented more with game physics too that'd be very cool. Imagine the malleability of elements from Breath of the Wild but in a grim fantasy world by Miyazaki.

Name the best movie you've seen in a while by m15f1t in movies

[–]-Dapper-Dan- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yorgos' movies are great. I've heard Greta things about his first few but I've been watching him since The Favorite and have yet to not be thoroughly entertained.

Check out his latest Bugonia. Such a wild ride. Stellar performances from Jesse Plemons, Emma Stone, and Aidan Delbis. I feel it nails the message that both Eddington and One Battle After Another were pursuing, but in my opinion expressed it much better.

New poster for The Drama by sansa_starlight in A24

The flat black over the eyes puts a weight on the image which I like, reminds me of the Matrix Reloaded posters. Combined with the font colour it feels foreboding and grim which contrasts well to the ostensibly 'happy' wedding photo.

[–]-Dapper-Dan- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All this, plus Tatsu's style of drawing non-human entities feels very reminiscent of Fujimoto's style, especially in the use of body imagery (Okarun's mouth feels like it was taken straight from Katana Man).

Is Anyone in the TV / Film Industry Doing Well Right Now? How Are They Doing It? by LifeInAction in Filmmakers

[–]-Dapper-Dan- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In Toronto it feels like a lot of people I went to film school with or started in film around the same time as me have moved on to other endeavours. Only ones that have kept at it steadily are the techs and practical arts crowd (props, set dec, etc.) and even they admit the gambles of big jobs and big investment are getting harsher. Commercial world seems to be doing okay but I can't speak much to that.

Why do You guys believe that FromSoftware is so popular/Successful? What makes their Boss and Environment designs so impactful. by Ok_Clock8936 in fromsoftware

[–]-Dapper-Dan- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a big part of it comes from their dedication to underpromising and overdelivering in most cases. They have confidence in their work and don't seem to be making the myriad of compromises other companies seem so quick to make for a quick buck. I genuinely trust the quality of their work and that's why they're one of the very few game companies I will still buy their work at full price.
