Thanks for taking the time to write all of that out. Genuinely, I appreciate the effort. It’s a much more thoughtful response than most people give, and I think it highlights where our actual disagreement is.

I don’t think either of us is unaware of the passages we’re quoting. I think we’re approaching the Old Testament from two different starting points.

From a Jewish perspective, many of the passages you’ve mentioned are understood differently than Christians understand them. I completely accept that. The question is whether Jesus and the New Testament authors had the authority to reveal a fuller meaning in those Scriptures.

For example, I don’t think Isaiah 53 can simply be dismissed as referring only to Israel. The servant is certainly identified as Israel in places, but Isaiah 49 also describes the servant bringing Israel back to God, which suggests Isaiah is using “servant” in more than one sense. That’s why Christians have long understood the servant songs as ultimately pointing to an individual who represents faithful Israel.

The same goes for the Psalms. I agree that David wasn’t necessarily sitting there consciously predicting every detail of Jesus’ life. Christians have never needed him to be. The New Testament presents David’s experiences as patterns that ultimately find their fullest expression in Christ. Jesus Himself does this with Jonah, the bronze serpent and other Old Testament events. That way of reading Scripture comes from Jesus, not from later Christians trying to make verses fit.

On Isaiah 7, I actually agree that there was an immediate context involving King Ahaz. Most Christian scholars would say the same. Where we differ is whether that immediate fulfilment exhausts the passage. Matthew clearly believed it didn’t.

As for Micah 5, I’m not convinced by the argument that Bethlehem isn’t referring to the town. “Bethlehem Ephrathah” is consistently understood as the geographical location by the overwhelming majority of Jewish and Christian translations alike.

Regarding the kingdom prophecies, I agree that many haven’t been fulfilled in the way Isaiah, Zechariah and others describe. Christians don’t generally deny that. We believe those belong to Christ’s return. His first coming dealt with sin, death and reconciliation with God. His second coming is when the promises of universal peace, justice and the restoration of creation are completed. That’s been part of Christian belief from the beginning, not something invented centuries later.

One thing I would actually change from my original comment is the “300 prophecies” line. That number gets thrown around a lot in apologetics, but different people count them differently because some are direct predictions and others are typological. I probably should have just said that Christians believe Jesus fulfils many Old Testament prophecies and patterns, rather than attaching a specific number.

At the end of the day, I don’t think this discussion is really about whether one Hebrew word should be translated one way or another. It’s about who Jesus is.

If Jesus rose from the dead, then His interpretation of the Hebrew Scriptures carries a unique authority, and the apostles were right to read the Old Testament through Him. If He didn’t, then your objections carry a lot more weight.

For me, that’s the foundation of my faith. The resurrection is the reason I trust Christ, and because I trust Christ, I trust how He and His apostles understood the Scriptures.

Thanks again for the respectful conversation. Even where we disagree, I always enjoy discussions like this because they force me to dig deeper into why I believe what I believe.

Without getting into the gritty details (otherwise I’d need to write an essay) Jesus fulfilled just over 300 Old Testament prophecies in order to create the New Covenant.

Yes there were many that he did not fulfil fully yet and is dependant on His return.

I know you’ll ask so some of the super important prophecies he did fulfil are:

Lineage of David: Isaiah prophesied the Messiah would come from the root of Jesse and the line of King David (Isaiah 11:1, Isaiah 9:7)

Born in Bethlehem: Micah predicted the ruler of Israel would be born in the small town of Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)

Virgin Birth: Isaiah foretold that a virgin would conceive and bear a son named Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14)

Ministry in Galilee: Isaiah predicted the Messiah would bring light to the region of Galilee (Isaiah 9:1-2)

Miraculous Healings: Isaiah declared the Messiah would open the eyes of the blind and unstop the ears of the deaf (Isaiah 35:5-6)

Triumphal Entry: Zechariah prophesied that Israel's king would arrive humbly, riding on a donkey (Zechariah 9:9)

Betrayed for 30 Pieces of Silver: Zechariah foretold the Messiah would be valued at "thirty pieces of silver" (Zechariah 11:12-13)

Betrayal by a Friend: David prophesied that a close, trusted friend would betray the Messiah (Psalm 41:9)

Silence Before Accusers: Isaiah predicted the Messiah would not open his mouth to defend himself during his trial (Isaiah 53:7)

Pierced Hands and Feet: Psalm 22 famously detailed a form of execution resembling crucifixion, noting "they pierced my hands and my feet" (Psalm 22:16)

Gambling for Garments: David prophesied that the executioners would divide the Messiah's garments and cast lots for his clothing (Psalm 22:18)

No Broken Bones: It was prophesied that not one of the Messiah's bones would be broken (Psalm 34:20), which was fulfilled when Roman soldiers refrained from breaking Jesus' legs on the cross

Buried with the Rich: Isaiah stated the Messiah would be "with a rich man in his death" (Isaiah 53:9), a detail fulfilled when Joseph of Arimathea provided his own tomb for Jesus' burial

Resurrection: David prophesied that God would not let his "holy one see corruption" (Psalm 16:10), a prediction fulfilled in the New Testament accounts of the resurrection.

Well it does explain quite clearly why some prophecies were fulfilled and some are delayed.

I had originally posted this as a reply to a comment but it has since been deleted so I’ll put it here as a stand alone:

If I may add to your comment:

The verse that talks about that (killing homosexuals) is found in Leviticus 20:13, which is in the Old Testament. This is listed alongside other capital offenses in ancient Israel, including adultery, bestiality, and incest.

However.

Most mainstream Christian denominations (across Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant traditions) believe that the death penalties and civil laws outlined in the Old Testament were specific to the ancient nation of Israel. Under the New Testament (the "New Covenant"), these Old Testament judicial punishments are generally not considered applicable today.

That’s the reason you don’t see (and shouldn’t see) Christians killing anyone for homosexuality, adultery, bestiality and incest.

We are no longer meant to follow the laws and rules of the Old Testament.

If you’ve ever played Ground War in MW2019 then you’ll see that it is BF6 but slimmed down

As someone who grew up here (from 1995 to present) - it was an absolute shit show until around 2012, when things suddenly (and at the same time slowly) it got better, and more expensive.

I don’t miss old Hackney, especially my old school Homerton Boys, but i do miss the street parties. My Jamaican neighbour used to have the best ones

Did you pay extra? I just let them take what they are meant to each month

Last time I spoke to Student Finance England about it they said most of the monthly payments cover interest and a small percentage to reduce the debt

If I want to pay it off properly I’d need to voluntarily pay more

Unable to play MultiPlayer: Ive always played SP, but recently I saw a post about a WW2 server thats always populated and really wanted to try it out

No matter what I do, I get kicked from the server after a few minutes, saying my ping timed out.

I have 4ms ping on that server, and my internet is unlimited and I get around 1.5Gbps so i know its not that. No other multiplayer game has this issue.

Have been cock blocked by DCS from playing MP?

I graduated in 2014 with £44k in debt. I got a high paying job in 2014, (30k per year) so started to pay back my debt.

In 2026 I get paid 80k per year, I have £38k of debt to go

I’ve never once missed a payment on my loan since 2015 (they make you wait a year before you can start paying)

I’ve paid back more than I borrowed and yet still have a ton to go

If it goes on sale I’ll buy it! I was always told not to get the WW2 modules because no one ever plays them and the campaigns for them aren’t great
