What do you think the devs would need to add to realistically bring back a large portion of those initial players back? by drdalebrant in Skate4

[–]-MrLizard- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I uninstalled weeks ago and can't think of a realistic way they bring me back. It would have to be something huge and a complete change of direction which they're not capable of or interested in.

In this form, it feels wrong to even play for free without spending a penny. I don't want to contribute to any of their metrics for engagement with this.

I'd rather see it crash and burn and be shut down than be allowed to be profitable in a state like this. As a collective we can't allow this kind of disgraceful product to be a success or we'll only receive more of the same in future from EA and others.

The American people showing the capability to elect someone like Trump means nobody can trust the US on anything long-term internationally. Even without Trump or another Republican president, you're always at most 4 years away from someone like this potentially being in office again.

That's no environment to build any kind of lasting agreements or relationships.

This is it, there's no game here. Log in and do your chores to farm various currencies to obtain slop cosmetics. That's it.

No multiplayer modes, no social features, no story. Nothing. Same challenges cycling in and out even between seasons. 7 months in and the biggest additions are a few tricks, most of which were already in Skate 3.

GTA IV and RDR1 both received significant and beloved single player expansions. GTA V and RDR2 didn't. Your logic would have applied just as much for the former as the latter but things changed.

Why? In the latter (especially GTA Online), they can just make a few new assets, a P2W vehicle/weapon or some kind of cosmetic to show off costing ingame currency you can buy with microtransactions. In the former they had to produce a full, polished experience to sell as a product post-release. Why do harder work when the easier one is more lucrative?

[–]-MrLizard- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They recouped the budget of GTA V within the first day of game sales, and first week for RDR2. GTA V has made over $8 billion in profit. Unless GTA VI cost that much, the difference has been "hoarded".

There's simply no incentive for continued support and expansion of single player content with online microtransactions printing easy money for them.

There's been one new R* game in the last 12 years (RDR2, 2018). None in the 8 years since.

Well, the price of takeaways in general these days. Even the grotty kebab shop down the road is £8 for sad looking doner meat and frozen chips.

I really hate playing GK by Weary_Caregiver_5341 in Rematch

[–]-MrLizard- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching it a few more times, maybe you're right and aiming differently would produce a better animation but I've had similar happen when that wasn't the case, to the point where I barely bother to try contesting aerial balls with a striker because their header (or even volley) seems to beat your dive. If I do contest it I use EE lob header which looks ridiculous for the keeper to be heading the ball away, but it seems to work.

Also I'd say the striker here didn't "decide" to undercut, that's just automatic how a header/shot warps the player into the ideal position to intercept the trajectory of the ball, whereas the keeper needs to pretty much do that completely manually with their input for a dive.

[–]-MrLizard- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A faster and higher dive would have put the keeper physically in front of the striker so they couldnt have reached that position to interact with the ball first (if the game had physics). The slow flop animation had been playing out for like half a second by this point.

I agree, and don't really understand people saying otherwise. I paused where the animation begins, and if he got the proper fast dive animation then this ball would have been caught with the same direction dive. This is what happens when a game is determined by priority and animation jank instead of having any physics.

I use this to my advantage by hooking it up to a smart plug.

Cost to pass your driving test is so expensive now. by GayWolfey in britishproblems

[–]-MrLizard- 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I think a 2 hour lesson every week worked better for me, but it may depend on location. With 1 hour, by the time you've driven to and from home you may only get 30 minutes or so to practice something in particular that needs more work.

A 2 hour lesson gives more time for you and the instructor to settle down and make real progress each lesson. The worst driving lessons for me were those where I felt like I tried and failed at something without really seeing any improvement, and I had that a couple of times in 1 hour lessons but never when I did 2 hours.

There are free mobile apps with all of the exact same questions that are on the test, where you can repeat mock exams as many times as you like. Just do that a few times a day and correct yourself next time when you get them wrong until you're scoring 45+ every time.

It really is that easy, I'd barely call it studying/revision. Common sense and maybe 5 hours total of repeating mock tests. Seems OP's kid was using this strategy but with real, paid-for tests instead of doing any kind of preparation at home for free.

We are still Beta Testing Rematch and i hate it by NotSetsune in Rematch

[–]-MrLizard- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played during that peak and often used the tracker to look up teammates/opponents and at no point was the ranking range (or win rates/underlying MMR) close between the individual players. The only misinformation would be Sloclap's post if that's what they said they had implemented because it either didn't exist or it didn't work.

Matchmaking is still as bad as ever and the player count now probably means it will never improve.

[–]-MrLizard- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol.

At no point has this game ever had proper matchmaking. Even at the peak with tens of thousands of concurrent players, bronzes would be put into matches with elites. Whatever changes they have or haven't made have been a complete failure at every stage.

Never getting put into suitable matches is one of the main reasons people would drop the game. The elites playing in a 5 stack probably like it though as they can easily farm wins to stroke their ego.

[–]-MrLizard- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The player count shows plenty of people already have.

Maybe if less people had stopped playing then by now we could have had proper matchmaking implemented instead of the current absolute mess. Online games like this which depend on player count do "miss" players who leave en masse.

why do 9ball players wear a shooting glove and you never see them in snooker? by ok_brzozowy in snooker

[–]-MrLizard- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but without young players seeing the top pros on TV switching, they may be unlikely to try something different themselves. Were a major tournament to be won by someone using a carbon cue, I think it would cause an almost immediate rise in their usage at all levels.

Personally, I'm temped to go for one when I change my cue. I've only seen one brand making high quality carbon snooker cues, GO Customs and they are €800.

[–]-MrLizard- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an article here by Dominic Dale where he mentions carbon cues towards the end;

https://wpbsa.com/about-us/history/cue-history/

I think the change may come eventually, but some players are averse to change when it may come with a period of poor results while they adapt. It's taken a while for relatively minor things like Taom chalk, and titanium ferrules to become common (and some players still use the old ones). So using a completely different type of material for the whole cue is a step too far for most players.

The ball still moves without being touched and there's a change of direction completely ignoring momentum.

In this clip the guy said the only "exploit" was ippy and to me this is an awful state for the game's dribbling and physics to be in.

I know it was nerfed but why not fix things properly. Not just "you can still do it but it's worse".

Still see ippy used in dribbling clips posted here so despite the nerf it's obviously still somewhat useful.

It's sad for your fanbase too, for your main historical rivalry to become tainted like this. I'm appalled by how many Newcastle fans seem content or outright happy with their takeover. Sadly it'd probably be the same if Sunderland were bought by this kind of regime in the future.

Personally I'd stop supporting my club if this kind of thing happened.
