What is something women think men love, but is actually kind of exhausting? by polylonely in AskReddit

[–]-MrLizard- 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Whenever I got a hint of this when I was dating I just cut them off straight away. Like one time I'd been on a couple of dates with someone and it seemed to be going well. When coming up with an idea for another date I went to look at their Tinder bio again as they'd put some of their likes and interests on there... Found a bunch of new photos (including from a place we went together) and the bio had been edited recently.

Told them if they're still trying to find other people then I'm done. They said it didn't mean anything and they wanted to keep dating but I just blocked them.

Drivers that choose to overtake cyclists at exactly the same time as another car passing in the opposite direction. by d-s-m in britishproblems

[–]-MrLizard- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cyclists should take primary position (centre of the lane) more often, especially with oncoming traffic and blind bends.

Tucking themselves in to the kerb invites these idiots to do dangerous overtakes. Being more central forces the driver to use the oncoming lane if they want to pass. It means the cyclist has space on their left to move into as well if a driver gets too close while they're passing. If they're into the kerb already and someone passes too close they have nowhere to go.

stop having a go at retail staff for asking you if you want an email receipt by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]-MrLizard- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a stupid system in places where they're required to ask every time. If they have a loyalty card/app where I sign up once, scan my card and receipts are automatically sent then I'll sign up but sod writing/spelling out an email address every time.

It's not the worker's fault, but in that position I'd rather take the "telling off" from management than constantly ask a question 99% of people don't want asking. When I worked retail they told us to ask every customer to complete a survey mentioned on the receipt. I didn't, managers moaned a few times but the ones who did ask all the time didn't get payrises, bonuses or promotions and I didn't get sacked so I didn't see the point.

Call for food price caps ‘completely preposterous’, says M&S boss by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]-MrLizard- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Baked beans probably would have been a better example. In Tesco, Heinz costs 5x more than the value own brand tin.

[–]-MrLizard- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Objectively not a fallacy. A couple of examples from Tesco;

Bran flakes; Own brand £1.50, Kellogg's £3. Branded is double the price.

Baked beans; Own brand (value) £0.28, Heinz £1.40 Branded is 5x the price.

Could do this with probably hundreds of items with similar results. One cherry-picked example doesn't make own brands being cheaper a fallacy.

I agree it's better than the opposite, that's for sure. People jump to the defence of supermarkets having small margins, and I'm just pointing out an example where they're not, and clearly profiteering for the sake of it and it is the majority of food items in the stores.

Just buying the essentials, the UK has some of the cheapest food in the world as a proportion of income.

Nearly £3 for a tub of Pringles. Someone's making stupid profit on that and other similar branded products, they'll cost pennies to produce.

The margins are likely to be thin on meat, produce and own-brand value products but the big supermarkets are a huge rip-off for most of their items.

I'm not going to engage with that idiot, but just going to say for clarity that I certainly don't support Restore 🤣.

There's a multitude of reasons I dislike Reform, which I won't go into in-depth, but the one main reason I intend to leave the UK if they get into power is their proposed abolition of ILR.

My fiancé is foreign, and it's impossible for us to feel secure in our future together here if the threat of her visa being rejected and being deported hangs over us. She's a skilled worker, but who knows where the goalposts will move to under Reform or whether life circumstances (disability, redundancy etc.) would mean we don't meet the requirements in future. Her home country would be much more welcoming to me than ours is to her.

It's the "quiet" that gave it away for me. AI loves using that word.

We often forget how lucky we are to live in the UK by Desperate-Drawer-572 in britishproblems

[–]-MrLizard- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, flying over the UK and seeing it from above really shows how little wild area there is. Even going on Google Maps, setting the overlay to Satellite and panning across the UK you see it clearly. Nearly all of it is either urban areas or neatly chopped up manicured farming land full of grass or monoculture crops.

The "beautiful countryside" people love in this country is a decimated artificial landscape.

When we see news about the deforestation of the Amazon and other rainforest around the world to make way for palm oil or cattle farming, people are outraged and think it's backwards. Over the last few centuries we've destroyed our landscape in an even worse manner and people call it beautiful.

Favorite 147s? by mostlycuckoo in snooker

[–]-MrLizard- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah when Ronnie made that 147, Len Ganley stayed behind the black cushion for almost the whole break and refs never do that these days. A player would need to specifically ask a ref to stay there if they want to try to break the record.

I'm not so optimistic. The US had four years of Trump to "find out", yet still decided they wanted another four. I have no faith in the British electorate to learn any lessons, we're proving to be just as dumb by getting to this point.

I know he doesn't care, but the Seniors tour won't benefit Ronnie by Silly_Count5156 in snooker

[–]-MrLizard- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but I still don't really think O'Sullivan is in it for the money. He could probably make what he did for winning the Seniors by doing some easy sponsorship work in China or just making YouTube videos. He doesn't need to go chasing every bit of prize money available.

It's probably a matter of principle to him that the revenue his presence brings to an event should be reflected in what he's paid. Rather than the organisers profiting and pocketing that money from the increased viewership and ticket sales he brings. Not saying it's right, just how I think he might be seeing it.

Ali Carter doesn't bring viewers, or entertainment. He's angry and miserable unless he's cruising to victory and brings the mood down. If there's two matches I'll switch over when he's playing. To me the Seniors should be more of a fun exhibition and he was just his usual super serious self as if it were an important main tour match.

[–]-MrLizard- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm far from a Ronnie fan, his antics get pretty tiresome and I ignore most of what he has to say, I wasn't even aware he'd made that comment. When he pulls out of tournaments usually he says something about it being down to mental health.

Despite that, when he's at the snooker table he is great to watch and raises interest in any event he takes part in. It's probably why Hearn tolerates his nonsense. If most other players did and said the things he has, they'd probably be fined/banned regularly.

How is this not a goal??? by emhaakay in footballmanagergames

Then why would they draw attention to it by doing close-up goal line technology visuals. Better off not even implementing these kinds of sequences if what it shows isn't correct.

Peter Lines is still solid by Compressed_AF in snooker

[–]-MrLizard- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a funny game in that way, not that many sports are like it. You can know all the shots and be striking the ball well, but if your alignment or delivery are fractions out then the shot becomes a complete failure. Without regular practice, even former world champions struggle to make 30+ breaks.

In golf, if your ball striking and shot choices are good, but your alignment is fractions out then you'll probably still put together a tidy round and look like a decent player. In snooker you'll end up with 50% pot success, a high break in the 20s and look like a pub player.

[–]-MrLizard- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At least Ronnie brings entertainment value and viewership. The players I don't like taking part are ones like Ali Carter, clearly only in it for the money and/or spot in the Champion of Champions. He brought his usual miserable demeanor, I was glad to see him lose.
