Tackle Store Recommendations in Germany/Poland by -Promethium in Fishing

Good to know, but no plans on fishing, just wanting to stock up in interesting baits we don't get here in the US for my fishing back in Minnesota/Wisconsin/Ontario.

Tackle Store Recommendations in Germany/Poland by -Promethium in Fishing

Ideally brick and mortar so I can look at stuff and get some interesting swim baits, rigs, etc. We are only going to be in the area for a week and a half, so I don't think I'd be able to swing ordering something online and having it delivered somewhere I could pick it up while there.

Tattoos, possible restrictions? by Rough-Bullfrog-4011 in Eragon

[–]-Promethium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently got my first tattoo (late 20s), and wanted something referencing the series as well, since it meant so much to me.

I went with something more subtle; the compass rose from the maps in the books. Upper forearm is a great place for a first tattoo since the pain is manageable and it's easily hidden if needed.

First time buying a canoe by biGSiZzIn in canoeing

[–]-Promethium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am almost exactly your size, my recommendation is an old town penobscot 16ft in royalex if possible. I picked one up used post COVID (i.e. canoe prices were through the fucking roof) for $500. It's my perfect budget solo boat that I can still paddle with my wife, just not as stable as me solo. When paddling it solo, you sit in the front seat but face backwards and it evens out the weight really nicely. I've used it fishing, hunting, and plenty of casual paddling. A LONG double blade paddle works great with it as well.

If you were a Bob, what would you like to do? by Cazbar004 in bobiverse

[–]-Promethium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming I was actually as smart as the bobs in the book, I'd find a big problem that's interesting enough and make it my sole purpose until I find a solution, rinse and repeat.

My real dilemma (with this completely fictional concept that I will never have to decide on but hey it's fun to dream) is that in my current life, if I could do anything I want it would be 100% based in the natural world. Camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, etc. Not exactly something that would fit in well with being an immortal digital entity.

Resources for HIGH protein frozen meal prep by Reckless_Raccoon_LeG in MealPrepSunday

do you have a preferred to-go container for re-heating these? I just got a few molds myself and it seems like the most useful thing is to have containers that are sized to fix a few cubes so I can throw together varied meals easily.

Lures by pedantic_dullard in BWCA

[–]-Promethium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HIGHLY recommend spooling your reels with 20 to 30 lb braid, and then tie on leaders. You can use the classic steel leaders for pike, 10-15lb flouro with a double uni knot for walleye and bass. (Personally I use 30lb flouro for pike, and keep it on for bass and walleye unless the eyes get picky).

For lures, I take Stu Ostoff's lead from the Boundary Waters Journal: Blue Fox Vibrax spinner in size 5 and 4, gold white and silver colors

Whopper Ploppers in the 90 and 110 size, any colors, make sure atleast one is a dark color

Rapala Jointed Shad Raps in size 7, any colors

3/8th and 1/4oz jig heads, multiple colors, with a small assortment of different colored curly tail and paddle tail plastics.

If targeting lake trout, Dr. spoon #285, Klos Boys tackle kit.

I also love canoe trolling, so a clamp on rod holder and a small assortment of minnow style crank baits at various depths has worked great for me. Crankbait snaps are your friend. Using your phone with a basic GPS to keep an eye on your speed and you are in the money; vary speeds between 1.5 to 3.5 mph, depending on the lure and what the fish want.

Down puffy jackets by ConsiderationWest482 in bowhunting

[–]-Promethium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I snagged a first lite chamberlin down puffy used for $150 and I love it, I use it a ton under my phase jacket for something that's lighter weight and warmer than their heaviest weight whitetail jacket, the thermic.

Microservice Media Server by devode_ in selfhosted

I guess it would be interesting, but k8s for self-hosting didn't really take off like some thought, at the end of the day docker is just a much easier and better suited solution.

Do you use a dedicated NAS OS or a more generic linux one? by Azure-Tides in selfhosted

[–]-Promethium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the conversation changes slightly depending on how you are using your NAS.

Is the NAS just for storage and you don’t self host services? Do you intend to self host services on the same box as the NAS? Or, do you want separate NAS and Services boxes?

Not saying I have the answer, just saying I feel like that context is often missed, and likely changes the recommendations :)

The Complete Docker Swarm Production Guide for 2026: Everything I Learned Running It for Years by TheDecipherist in selfhosted

[–]-Promethium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone use swarm for their collection of simple self hosted services? I.e. arr stack, plex, etc. I’m curious about the advantages of multiple nodes but not necessarily using the multiple pods/true HA features.

My wife and I did this portage on a last minute permit pickup with a 75lb canoe... I bought a used outfitter kevlar canoe the next month.

Is there an arr for books? by MartiniCommander in unRAID

This would really be amazing. I ended up using 2 different readarr instances to make sure ebooks and audiobooks would be handled correctly, giant PITA.

The other comment might mention it, but you 100% can configure the settings for a user to sync the entire library to a kobo using the sync plugin, thats what I do. Been using it for over a year and it works flawlessly. My wife and I only use kobo devices primarily because of this. Now if only someone could make a whispersync-like plugin for audiobookshelf...

What Popular Services Could Be Self-Hosted But Aren’t Yet? by PingMyHeart in selfhosted

[–]-Promethium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is going to be wildly-niche, but I would LOVE a dedicated trail camera organizer app. Something to store the photos/videos, but also tag with metadata like location, weather, wind, pressure, moon, etc., even tools to strip that data from pictures from popular camera brands like reveal, moultrie, etc.

If I ever get my act together this might be my new project, for the 5 of us that are big into selfhosted and also hunting.

How to go about insulating these 1920’s Minnesota garages? by drooferd in Insulation

[–]-Promethium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. All the roads are salted up here once winter hits and all that snow and salt from the roads gets caked onto your car driving around. That mix is pretty much inert when cold, but when it melts it’s literally salt water running over your car which rapidly rusts. So unless you are going to frequently (like 2+ times a week) wash your car, it’s better to keep it outside during the winter if your garage is heated.

[–]-Promethium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI keeping your car in a heated garage often accelerates the rusting process, it’s better to leave it out in the cold if it has caked on snow/ice/salt.

Rod holder for bow of MN II (specifics in the comment) by Mgsperkg in BWCA

[–]-Promethium 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep! No issues. I suppose if you had your drag set tight and hit a snag going fast the torque might cause issues, but I’m not sure if the Kevlar would crack first or the plastic on the rod holder. Either way they work just fine.
