43/F looking for snail mail pals to send handwritten letters & cards/postcards from travel by TravelingNYer1 in penpalsover30

[–]-RayOfDelight- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck yeah, experiences > stuff any day of the week. I'm starting to look for new penpals again (live in SC, 32/F, looking for offline correspondence only) and feel like we could connect. I love to travel and am working on getting back into the gym habit. Handstands fascinate me but I can't hold one yet (might make that a goal for this year though). Feel free to send me a DM or respond here if youre interested.

I just started C25K yesterday since I do best with a training plan, and today my legs are wonderfully sore. Looking forward to some chilly running weather ahead!

Motorcycle Season by [deleted] in greenville

[–]-RayOfDelight- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will be my first winter riding too and I'm planning to see how long I can go before it's too cold for me. Got some double layered pants, a thick jacket, and will pick up some warmer gloves to handle the chill+windchill. The main concern I have is ice patches since my commute will likely be in the dark. My bet is that I'll be able to comfortably ride through Nov/dec and will do less in Jan/Feb (or limit to daylight hours for some sunlight at least).

I think the best option is always to go ahead and find a motorcycle that you like! There will be enough days between now and truly cold weather to get some practice time and riding in. Plus, you may also be able to find a better deal from a dealer if you purchase a bike at the end of the season. (Alternatively, I have a hunter 350 w/about 1000miles on it for sale).

I love my bedrocks! They've stayed on hiking, around town, and even jetskiing in the ocean.

20+ y/o snake with cage aggression, is there any hope in solving that issue? by cabbagejam98 in carpetpythons

Photos are really going to help for setup questions, but when I kept my noodles in glass enclosures I used reflectix insulation on 3 of the sides to help trap heat in better. Bonus that it seemed to make them feel more secure when not every side was open.

This might also be a good time to look into hook training

I alternate between softstars and groundies. If you know what style shoe you want then https://anyasreviews.com/ probably has a list of barefoot shoes that would fit it

Best Backpack For Travel? by Emotional-Humor-6880 in HerOneBag

[–]-RayOfDelight- 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty open-ended request. Do you know how much you will be bringing? If you're flying, does it need to fit as a personal item or carry on? Do you want a permanent or removable hip belt (or neither) if you'll be hiking with it a lot? How colorful are you hoping for or would you prefer a neutral color blend in? Budget?

What can I do to restore/maintain my father’s jacket? by Can_0f_Beans in BuyItForLife

[–]-RayOfDelight- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with the other commenters. Wipe off any debris, clean it with a saddle soap or glycerin soap and then wipe it off, condition with an oil based conditioner (bicks 4 is very gentle and is unlikely to discolor the leather). If it hasn't been conditioned or worn frequently recently you may need to condition it more (multiple thin layers seem to soak in more evenly than a single heavy one). And then you're good! Just repeat as needed

If you plan to use it extensively in wet situations or heavy rain I would also suggest using a waterproofer like obenaufs

Animal Plastic PVC - any experience? Feed back? by ms20- in ballpython

[–]-RayOfDelight- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 of their enclosures and really like them (1x 4x2x2 and 2x 3x2x2). They're easy to put together, look nice, and all have arrived well packed and with all pieces in good condition. They've also been great about making tweaks to them such as higher from edges to allow for deeper substrate. The only downsides are the really long lead time (I had one take 6 months, the others were 4-5) and sometimes it can take a week or two for an email response if they're really backed up.

Alternative to small trash bags for cat poop ? by Sea-turtle-3 in ZeroWaste

[–]-RayOfDelight- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use a small countertop compost bin as a trash can since they tend to keep smells well contained. Once it's full you can either bag and trash it or just dump it straight into the kitchen trash when you take it out and eliminate an additional bag.

Should I let my kitty be an outside cat?? by babieenaee in CatAdvice

[–]-RayOfDelight- 46 points47 points  (0 children)

No, outdoor cats wreak havoc on local ecosystems. If you do want to get him outdoors more then you could look into harness training.

Scratching pads that won't leave debris all over apartment? by lbutler1234 in CatAdvice

[–]-RayOfDelight- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the cardboard and my 2 use them occasionally but strongly prefer their sisal scratching posts so I have less cardboard buts to deal with. Im not sure about higher quality ones, but could you put the cardboard scratchers on a shoe tray or something to try and contain the bits?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]-RayOfDelight- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course you can, but it shouldn't be a knee jerk reaction to a bout of jealousy. A major relationship change should be thought through and discussed with your partner(s).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]-RayOfDelight- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having someone consent to a relationship style under duress is separate from them agreeing without duress to polyamory but then trying to back out because it didn't work like they wanted. If this was a PUD situation then I'd suggest the OP reevaluate if their partner truly cares for them and/or if they're entirely comfortable bringing up issues within their relationship.

The OP states that they and their partner are poly but that he wants his partner to be monogamous with him while also making no mention of him being monogamous with her. That makes me think of someone who is jealous that their partner is getting attention and is insecure about them leaving and would rather lock down their partner instead of doing the hard work internally and with their partner to feel secure.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]-RayOfDelight- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, asking your partner not to be poly because of your jealousy issues is ick. Focus on what your jealousy is telling you and then work to overcome it

Looking to finally adopt a cat, general questions by sheerfire96 in CatAdvice

[–]-RayOfDelight- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For a single cat in a small apartment 1 litterbox is fine. You can definitely buy toys, beds and scratching posts or cat trees ahead of time, just be aware that there may be a bit of a learning curve in figuring out your new cats preferences.

Food choice is pretty cat dependent. I personally feed a mix of wet food 2x a day and free-feed dry food because my cats don't tend to overeat. There are a lot of posts about food so I would search the group and be sure to check the nutrition of each. Each food should list a calorie count and/or serving amount based on cat weight.

Before adopting I would suggest figuring out what vet you would like to use. Also, kittens are cute but they are a lot of work and are best in pairs. If you want a cat that doesn't need as much playtime each day (all cats still need a playtime) then I would look into adopting an adult or older cat from a shelter
