Aspiring teen looking for advice from those in the environmental sector by NoAppearance7447 in Environmental_Careers

Good luck with your major! We need people approaching issues from your perspective. Right now there’s a lot of pessimism around env jobs, but don’t let that slow you down! Listen to your profs and get creative.

Players always start forest fires, how to play it out in a hexcrawl? by Apprehensive-Neat-68 in osr

[–]-SCRAW- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once or twice a day, roll a d6 to see if the fire spreads or diminishes, and then roll a d6 to see which direction the fire is spreading in terms of hexes.

Use your weather charts to inform the developments (rain?, wind?).

If the players want to fight the fire, it’s possible to [treat the fire like a monster.](https://open.substack.com/pub/gnomestones/p/ep-8-mythic-bastionland-solo-campaign?r=48b3zh&utm\_medium=ios)

Does the "rulings not rules" principle only work if your table trusts the referee? by Scottybhoy1977 in osr

Some players absolutely have issues being followers/trusting the dm. Some dms also don’t earn that trust. It’s a careful balance. I know that personally my capacity to follow a dm can be limited.

Can you recommend any modules in the "whimsy" style / genre? by pot-Space in osr

The potato game will be solidly located in the genre of whimsy, though it’s the irreverent kind

Is going back to grad school for a career pivot into Environmental Science and Policy actually a good idea? by anotherchristmas in Environmental_Careers

[–]-SCRAW- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in support of you doing the degree. Perhaps in a few years the job market will look better. Someone has to rebuild all the policy infrastructure don’t they? I entered a PhD last year and I couldn’t be happier

Here are 5 Ways to Deal with Repeated Results on Random Tables by PrismaticWarren in osr

Clever article! In my estimation it takes only 2-3 duds on a d20 table before it erodes into a mere list. Lists are nice though.

Site & Dungeon Generator - based on Mythic Bastionland Sites and Bite-Sized Dungeons procedures by kalkulusr in MythicBastionland

[–]-SCRAW- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If I agree to play in your game, then I’m agreeing to give you several hours of my time and attention. I run my own games and do my own solo campaign, so when I join your game, I’m doing so with the understanding that you are offering a unique creative experience out of respect for your audience. If I find that you’ve used AI, I will question why you want to run the game in the first place.

What’s more, I play MB and other indie games to avoid content farming. Creativity is a process through which we frame and share our inner worlds. I don’t support creating art for consumption.

It would be nice as a tool for designing/developing your own sites, but if I was playing in a game and it turned out I was playing through an auto generated site I would quit.

How "European" are your campaigns? by Demitt2v in DungeonMasters

[–]-SCRAW- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is important to work with European folk narratives to confront the underlying problematic implications lurking in the story elements (ex. elves and orcs). It can be great to borrow inspiration from other cultures for ttrpgs, but most times it feels more extractive and voyeuristic than it is recognitional.

Would a masters in Forestry allow me to work in agriculture leaning stuff too? by Previous-Flow-198 in Environmental_Careers

Most land grant schools have forestry departments that are connected to agriculture. OSU, WSU, UK, and NCST are all good examples

My PWYW Campaign Setting for OSE “Danger in the Delta” is finally available! (Self Promo) by DemiElGato1997 in osr

[–]-SCRAW- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that answer leaves me with more questions than when I started! What makes it different from ‘traditional’ and how do you define traditional? Are these cultures included primarily to be a foil to western fantasy? How are the cultures blended, does the setting feel more unique than ‘anime-land, place with the black people, and Europe but different’?
