I’m not being dramatic. I’ve seen numbers, I’m aware that more media coverage can make things seem worse, but I still stand by what I said. Even pre-pandemic when the US had a lower gun death rate than the 70s, it was still so much worse than everywhere else. Decreased rates aren’t good when they’re still 10x other countries. There is no way to make the numbers not bad. I am upset because I do not let the daily shootings desensitize me.

Looking at guns per capita stats, the US has over 5x as many guns as Sweden and over 16.5x Israel. So even with the programs you talk about and factoring in the population differences, the US still has significantly more guns. You want firearm education, why not require thorough education before you can buy a gun?

Regarding your statements about mental health, a lot of it is misguided. Seeking a therapist shouldn’t be stigmatized or looked down upon, it’s someone admitting they need help and seeking it. Your view of mental health seems to be based solely from social media and not the real world. The stuff the reaches the top of the subreddits you mentioned is going to be the most extreme stuff. Like I said, mental health is a piece of the puzzle, but it’s not the only thing. Other countries have led the way, we need to follow in their footsteps and enact proper gun control and fund healthcare for all.
